Hey Steve, great review mate, we re powered our 7.0 offshore plate boat with the 175 6 cylinder in around July August last year and were blown away. It is like driving a different boat. We swapped from a 2004 140 Johnson 4 stroke (which was the Suzuki painted white) and the way the boat handles now I s phenomenal, better in every aspect and safer, especially when crossing a sloppy bar.. Bet some choice words came out when you snapped the corner off the cavitation plate in the first hour of running... keep up the good work...👍

This motor seems to be a big step forward.

It’s a bit underpowered a 140hp on a 7 metre, a 175 seems about right for it. My grandad got a 175 2 stroke on a 19 foot Haines, perfect power for it, shoots out of the hole very quick and goes 40 knots top speed.

Hiya, i m in love with these new engines and i want to put one on my fibreglass boat, if you have a max of 200hp, would you go for the V6 or the Pro XS? Is the V8 more thirsty for fuel? I m more looking for a very good cruising speed not WOT.

I’d always go for capacity - 4.6L > 3.4L!

How would a 23 fury work on the motor.

Depends on the hull, but Fury is designed for bass boats.

Not sure how they got a V8 down to 228kg without cutting to much weigh out of vital components. Hopefully it lasts the distance

6 year warranty is useless, now if they had a 600 - 700 hour warranty that would be impressive. I had a optimax 175 on my boat, came with a 5 yr warranty, the problem was that after 10 yrs and only 135 hours on the motor the power head blew and needless to say the expense of replacing it fell solely on me.
@Jamieaus5 жыл бұрын
It does look nice though, please do an update a few 100 hours in

Sounds like a Rattle Can on Acceleration. But 2km/liter, that's 5.6 miles per Gallon(Imperial) and at 50mph. I remember the Old V6 200 HP 2 strokes getting about 1 mpg at those speeds

Love all your reviews but this is the best, being very personal to you. I’m thinking of a 21’ fibreglass deep v (23°) cuddy cabin for family use (toys, cruising, Bluewater and large lakes) would you suggest the fourstroke, pro Xs or Verado here, at 250 hp? 1800 kg hull. Same engine but different tuning. Thoughts?
@FishingMonthly5 жыл бұрын
If the hull can handle the extra weight (and you can handle the extra cost) of the Verado, then that’s what I’d put on it.

Hey Steve. Great Vids mate, found them very helpful. I’m about to put either a 250 Pro XS or standard 250 CMS on my extreme 695 game king. Stepping up from a 200 L4 Verado. Not much in it with price, any advice you can provide to make the final decision? Cheers

I went from a 150L4 to a 200V8 proXS and it was awesome. You may be able to reuse some of your vessel view gauges and save a few bucks. I think that the DTS is rigging is different, though. Definitely go for DTS.
@benjaminwitts35434 жыл бұрын
@@FishingMonthly Thanks mate. Definitely will be going DTS. How have you found the 'noise' of the exhaust while sitting in the drivers seat? Not that it's a bad thing, but with a hard top I was concerned it may be over bearing? Cheers
@FishingMonthly4 жыл бұрын
It’s no worries for me - it definitely has a ‘tone’ but is no noisier than other outboards.

Interesting to compare it to the G2 Etec?
@5.7hemi794 жыл бұрын
@Colby Hampton evinrude is still 2 stroke they make technology of the past. Yamaha vmax SHO and the new Mercury pro xs 4 strokes are the way to go.
@PayNoTax-GetNoVote4 жыл бұрын
@@5.7hemi79 - Sometimes newer isn't always better. The others converted to 4 stroke because government got involved with emissions and the other guys caved to 4 stroke because no one could conceive a 2 stroke meeting or EXCEEDING all other motors on the water with a 2 stroke. I was HIGHLY disappointed the G2 couldn't garner more market share and be, at least, as popular as Merc and the Optimax. I was looking forward to replacing my 22 year old Johnson Venom with one but that thing just won't die.

hey Steve I like your work...........however if that is the best beard you can grow I reckon shave it off quick smart (a stiff towel will probably get it off also). Any chance you can do a 60Hp outboard comparo? Very popular segment so reckon it would be well received.

He says hear this 08:35 yes on idle it sounds but not when you put down the throttle. A V8 with less fuel consumption, high output and a design only a mother would love but has it a soul and a sound that could shake your body like the old 2 stroke pro xs in accelleration, the answer is NO!!! If you put that on a old boat its going to sink. It has only one purpose and that is too get the tone-deaf a mening of a life and better accelearation of course. But it doesn´t help that it was born V8!!
