Hi everyone. I just wanted to share this in case people going through the same thing find my video and find it helpful. I watched all the videos I could find about receiving a high risk NIPT result. If you use pregnancy forums, you see that most people feel anxious while waiting for their NIPT results, but it's very different once you get a high risk result. As Panorama states, "A high risk result does not definitely mean your baby has an anomaly; rather, it indicates a very high risk that your baby has that condition". So while NIPT is not considered fully diagnostic, it's not simply an increased chance when they are claiming over 99% accuracy. For those watching who may not be going through this or being familiar with it, having a positive detection on NIPT means doctors will assume your baby has the condition and you become a high risk pregnancy. It's not some minor thing and is considered far high accuracy than combined screening. So this was a very difficult time in our lives, but I hope our experience can help someone as it's a very isolating thing to go through. I hope our testimony can help someone hold onto hope when facing fetal abnormalities.

Most people get normal results so most likely will be fine! The risk of having low fetal fraction increases the earlier you do the test (I had that on my first test before I got the false positive on the 2nd one) if you do Panorama then they inaccurately report that as high risk. But most people will have enough fetal (placental) fraction at 10 weeks

@@ByeByeBelly I just had to come back and update... I had a low fetal fraction on the test from 10 weeks so those results were inconclusive. I took an additional nipt test at 13 weeks and had a 4.5 fetal fraction and everything turned out negative with the exception of the sex chromosome... it came back as indeterminate, female fetus with extra X chromosome material 🥺 I was terrified. I met with a genetic counselor and explained to her that because of prior surgeries to remove fibroids I wanted to avoid the amino if possible. They allowed me to take another nipt at 16 weeks... I was hoping for a higher fetal fraction. 11.2 fetal fraction and everything was fine and I’m having a boy. I also had my anatomy scan which was fine. This info might help someone else.

Thank you :) we were very blessed and although the test claims to be 98.9% accurate, it did end up being a false positive and invasive diagnostic testing showed no abnormalities

Thank you, everything worked out well for us. Not the case for everyone, but very common for false positives with whole genome sequence expanded panel NIPT x

God saved us and baby is totally fine, invasive testing showed the NIPT was a false positive 😊

@@mrslittle1009 sorry to hear that. Did the report give you a positive predictive value (PPV)? Are you going to see a genetic counselor? Have they recommended CVS or amniocentesis? Only problem with CVS is that you can have a trisomy that's in the placenta and not in the baby in a small number of cases so amniocentesis is more reliable. Also r/NIPT on Reddit is really helpful

No, it was a false positive in my case. The expanded panels have much much lower accuracy 🙏

I havent asked the ppv yet. He said i need to see a counselor and a pediatric cardiologist. I also need to an amnio just to confirm. This is not a happy pregnancy till i did the genetic blood test. I wish i never done it. I was pregnant with my first when i was 35 and my dr never asked me to do it but now im 40 i guess im high risk so i did it. And never would have imagined to hear that i am high risk for ds.
