In Fallout 3 there's a Mr. Handy in a factory somewhere that's called NCC-1864 I remember thinking that was a really cool easter egg because the game is set in 2277 which is when the Reliant would have been built in the Star Trek timeline. The fact that I immediately recognized the registry number was probably because I have a model of it on my shelf.

These are stunning models. But I checked the website and the prices these are demanding makes them pretty much unobtainium for us mere mortals. When is a prominent model kit company (Polar Lights / Round2) going to fill the obvious demand for large scale models like this? 1/350 Reliant....1/600-ish (3 to 3.5 feet) Excelsior and Enterprise-E? We're stuck with the mass produced, tiny, 1/1000 scale kits or questionable garage resin kits.

If I can ever get myself stable to a point I can start looking into 3D Printing, I have dreams of making an XL model of the NCC-1701-D. I would love to build it up, deck by deck, with hull panels you can take off and look inside the machine. I imagine filling the decks of Cetacean Operations with blue resin, and little whales and dolphins in Starfleet uniforms. Or a Voyager. with complete interiors. My imagination lights up when I consider the problems involved in filling in the blank spaces, and finding ways to make the interiors that we know, fit with the systems we haven't seen, but must be there. Absolutely monumental undertaking that I may never even get to start, but hey, maker-dreams!

Referring to inanimate objects as female is weird and off-putting really. It's one of those things that never happens the other way round for some pretty gross historical reasons. I don't like it with full sized ships and I don't like it here.
@Avenrise4 ай бұрын
@@strayiggytv To each their own, I think gendering an inanimate object shows that you're seeing it as more than just that object. It's almost describing it in a way that incorporates the love and passion you've invested into it rather than just 'a thing'.
@Q3ark4 ай бұрын
@@strayiggytv What are the gross historical reasons dude?
@strayiggytv4 ай бұрын
@@Q3ark the answer is two fold. Originally it was thought to be because ships in particular invoked a female "motherly" figure or goddess to protect the passengers and sailors in their journey but overtime that I interpretation shifted to a much more "alpha manly" type of interpretation. Modern motorcycle and car dudes don't call their cars she because they're invoking a goddess, they do it because they "own" the car or motorcycle as a sexy object. It's the same reason the stereotype of a sexy female ai or robot exists. A fetishizeation of the "subordinate female as a sex object" It's dehumanizing. Granted star trek rules and I'm sure in universe they'd invoke the older meaning but you just know the scifi dude bros who insist "star trek was never woke" aren't going to use it that way l
@miss-magic-maya4 ай бұрын
