In Fallout 3 there's a Mr. Handy in a factory somewhere that's called NCC-1864 I remember thinking that was a really cool easter egg because the game is set in 2277 which is when the Reliant would have been built in the Star Trek timeline. The fact that I immediately recognized the registry number was probably because I have a model of it on my shelf.

Same here, I always thought there was something masterful about it's design. It's so sleek, and I think it still looks very modern so many years later. My favorite part is how sometimes if you see it from the right angle, you get this illusion where the elliptical saucer looks round.

Thank you Norm for finding John over the years at SDCC. John Eblan is an amazing builder, I own several of his builds over the years. Thank you John for being there for us. I am a huge Star Trek Original Series fan. Yet love all that followed. I own a few of these builds because they bring joy to my life and provide fond memories of my childhood. People travel, buy electronics, fancy cars and homes... I invest in my family and my dreams. It has done well for me in life. Star Trek taught me what is possible, if we can only imagine it. It teaches us to explore the unknown and most importantly how to be human.

These are stunning models. But I checked the website and the prices these are demanding makes them pretty much unobtainium for us mere mortals. When is a prominent model kit company (Polar Lights / Round2) going to fill the obvious demand for large scale models like this? 1/350 Reliant....1/600-ish (3 to 3.5 feet) Excelsior and Enterprise-E? We're stuck with the mass produced, tiny, 1/1000 scale kits or questionable garage resin kits.

Oof. I was about to comment that I'd be in the market for such a well made replica of the Enterprise D or E (love them both to bits), and asking for where I might get to order one to Germany. I was thinking around 3.5k€ at most, much happier with 2.5k€. Something pretty enough to hang in my living room for 1k€ would be ideal. If anyone knows of good enough artists making models at those price ranges, please shoot me a message. I'm also on the lookout for someone that sells the Enterprise painting shown in TNG Picard's ready room at actual scale.

If I can ever get myself stable to a point I can start looking into 3D Printing, I have dreams of making an XL model of the NCC-1701-D. I would love to build it up, deck by deck, with hull panels you can take off and look inside the machine. I imagine filling the decks of Cetacean Operations with blue resin, and little whales and dolphins in Starfleet uniforms. Or a Voyager. with complete interiors. My imagination lights up when I consider the problems involved in filling in the blank spaces, and finding ways to make the interiors that we know, fit with the systems we haven't seen, but must be there. Absolutely monumental undertaking that I may never even get to start, but hey, maker-dreams!

I mean this with every ounce of respect- referring to a model as a 'she' just goes to show the love and passion John has for these builds. Truly they are things of beauty and something to be admired not just for their looks but the emotion and dedication to detail that's gone into making them.

Referring to inanimate objects as female is weird and off-putting really. It's one of those things that never happens the other way round for some pretty gross historical reasons. I don't like it with full sized ships and I don't like it here.
@Avenrise
@Avenrise 4 ай бұрын
@@strayiggytv To each their own, I think gendering an inanimate object shows that you're seeing it as more than just that object. It's almost describing it in a way that incorporates the love and passion you've invested into it rather than just 'a thing'.
@Q3ark
@Q3ark 4 ай бұрын
@@strayiggytv What are the gross historical reasons dude?
@strayiggytv
@strayiggytv 4 ай бұрын
@@Q3ark the answer is two fold. Originally it was thought to be because ships in particular invoked a female "motherly" figure or goddess to protect the passengers and sailors in their journey but overtime that I interpretation shifted to a much more "alpha manly" type of interpretation. Modern motorcycle and car dudes don't call their cars she because they're invoking a goddess, they do it because they "own" the car or motorcycle as a sexy object. It's the same reason the stereotype of a sexy female ai or robot exists. A fetishizeation of the "subordinate female as a sex object" It's dehumanizing. Granted star trek rules and I'm sure in universe they'd invoke the older meaning but you just know the scifi dude bros who insist "star trek was never woke" aren't going to use it that way l
@miss-magic-maya
@miss-magic-maya 4 ай бұрын
@@strayiggytvYeah, it's very off putting, and doesn't help in what seems to be a very male dominated hobby/topic. I wonder how those "sci fi bros" would react if it were the other way around.

They will make all the ST ships so if you want one check TOMY out! Prices are affordable...600 for the TOS (sorry sold out last year) and the upcoming REFIT will be 700. Yes that is somewhat pricey but for what you get, lights 1/350 scale and all diecast...that really is an unbeatable price! This video was very informative... before I was wondering just why those kinds of models were so prohibitively expensive, but after I now understand it a bit better... it's not just high-performance materials, it's the knowhow of the artisans too. Just a shame that this means I'll never be able to own something this amazing...
