I recently saw the vinyl caped Jawa figure at a collector's store in Ft. Worth, Texas. It wasn't $2,000. It was $20,000 ! ! ! And there was someone in the process of purchasing it! That is 100% the truth!

For those unaware...Sansweet worked for Lucasfilm as head of fan relations for many years and his collection/ranch is located close to George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. Sansweet was actually robbed this year by a good friend who sold most of the stuff he stole so he never got it back. Many fans from around the world have tried to help rebuild his collection. He is in the Guiness Book of World Records for his collection, has written many books over the years "Steve’s collection really began to take shape in 1996, when, after a 28-year stint at the Wall Street Journal, he turned his love of the Star Wars saga into a new career and became Director of Specialty Marketing at Lucasfilm Ltd. His title later changed to Director of Content Management and head of Fan Relations, with Steve acting as Lucasfilm's liaison to fans worldwide. Steve held the role for 15 years before retiring in 2010, however he still maintains an active role in the Star Wars fan community and continues to advise the company on its interaction with fans."
@vfgbnfghvfvvhfcbh1932
@vfgbnfghvfvvhfcbh1932 5 жыл бұрын
Jason Harshman Supposedly he didn't retire, George Lucas fired him because he was angry that a movie used piece that he had gifted to Steve to "keep," Steve traded for something of equal value. That angered George because he felt betrayed by that and let him go over it. You might say that sounds crazy but I guess George Lucas can get a little wierd about that kinda shit.That's the rumor from inside sources anyway.

His good friend stole from him earlier this year In June 2017 Sansweet said that he was a victim of theft and that over 100 items from his collection have been stolen, “The majority of them vintage U.S. and foreign carded action figures, many of them rare and important pieces.” Reportedly, several of those pieces have already been “resold or professionally appraised for a total of more than $200,000.” According to Sansweet, a man named Carl Edward Cunningham, whom Sansweet refers to as “a good and trusted friend,” surrendered to police at the end of March 2017 but is currently out on bail pending additional hearings

I can guess what it is that you won’t be able to steal. He gave his buttholes’ virginity away DECADES ago!! I’ll bet he’s got a Luke Skywalker action figure by Kenner Toys out of its box right now. The worst part of it is that the poor little Luke Skywalker action figure is jammed so deep into the guys bowels that all that’s left hanging out is Luke’s little plastic toy feet. I found him more than a little bit - kinda creepy.

+brantdanger you don';t have to be born in 77 to be engrossed with all things Star Wars. My apartment is a scaled down version of this place for example. What you need to be is not just passionate and know how to edit and upload a video, but have presentation and speaking skills, which this person probably didn't when being swamped with so much merch. I have only been overwhelmed with Star Wars once in my lifetime and that was at Celebration last year for obvious reasons.

Whenever you find a figure that you get that feeling over, buy it. For some reason it always pans out. One of my friends who never goes to cons or anything went with me once, and almost passed up one of the original and still working ATAT walker unit toys that was priced super cheap, but got it. And of course I was impressed because it’s worth four or five times what she paid for it

Actually one of his good friends stole tons of stuff earlier this year. "In June 2017 Sansweet said that he was a victim of theft and that over 100 items from his collection have been stolen, “The majority of them vintage U.S. and foreign carded action figures, many of them rare and important pieces.” Reportedly, several of those pieces have already been “resold or professionally appraised for a total of more than $200,000.” According to Sansweet, a man named Carl Edward Cunningham, whom Sansweet refers to as “a good and trusted friend,” surrendered to police at the end of March 2017 but is currently out on bail pending additional hearings"

My friend in high school had a vinyl robed jawa of the sort seen here; and by chance I read an article on the wall in a local hobbyshop describing the most valuable star wars figure of all time. I told my friend, who had no idea his jawa was worth that much. I didn't even know he had it; it was pure chance that I mentioned it. From then on he would keep the jawa in his pocket at school. Yes, it was out of its package...

He's turned it into a charity which I have a slight problem with. I get that it's more to do with protecting rare items but it kind of feels like paying for a guy's personal collection

Slimmy_007 that would be a pretty fair thought to have were it not for the idea that this space certainly takes *a lot* of money to operate. you have to have it pretty climate and humidity controlled to preserve some of these aging objects. in the hands of the general public we could guarantee most of these objects would get destroyed or lost. you also get a personalized tour by him personally. you might think that the $60 ticket price, minimum of two tickets, is pretty steep, and on the surface that also seems like a fair thought. but, if he had a couple of hundred people filtering through every day then that cost would be more reasonable. even your local museums have either an admission charge and/or donation jar. well, the public pays for a lot of these museums through taxes, i would imagine, and many of the items inside are 'on loan' from private owners. the idea is we're paying for museums whether we visit them or not, then an admission on top of that when we do go. at least with a private museum it costs the public nothing, lol. i'm glad someone out there has the means and wherewithal to preserve this stuff, but i doubt he's a rich man. much like forry ackerman's museum, it's good that someone cares enough to donate so much time, money and love to it so that we can be amazed yet again by this franchise. to me, sounds like a bargain, especially to someone like me who just lost his best friend since 3rd grade earlier this week and we grew up playing with this stuff (we're both 45) and would probably stifle tears memories of this old plastic would bring back. a bargain, indeed.... so, i have no qualms paying a couple of bucks so guys like me, someone with memories attached to these things, can have a comprehensive and pristine collection to gawk at and remember our childhoods....

Yeah I guess so if he has some items that are the only ones in existence then I couldn't think of anyone better to trust with their safekeeping I suppose to me it just depends on whether this is at his house or in a separate building and whether he is the only one that works there. Because then it would just feel like seeing someone's personal Collection more than something for the public

Slimmy_007 true, and i get what you're saying. it would be like if i had an extensive collection of something and wanted to create a tax dodge to view my common everyday bullshit stored in my basement, lol. having never been there, i would only guess that this museum is on his property. it's clearly a pretty extensive building that he's adding onto. he also has an assistant, according to the website. sansweet himself had worked at ILM. in my silly wild dreams i hope to someday have a video arcade museum that just goes on and on. just need the money. lots and lots of money. lol. but, i would set it up as a 503(c) (and someone correct me if my memory on that number is wrong, been awhile since having to need to know that) despite it being privately owned and essentially serving my own personal weirdness for such trivial things. the difference between forry, who i think just took donations and was owner and curator with no other help, is that his museum was basically a big house, as i recall, and not really made for display and preservation. while he had an amazing collection, there didn't seem to be much order to it (or dusting!). i get rancho obi-wan and sansweet's way of setting it up and why, and i get why someone would view it otherwise. but, maintenance and utilities would be astronomical, so if *we* want these things collected and preserved, which i do, i wouldn't mind ponying up the dough to gain entrance. is it important to keep this stuff in a museum? from a pop culture perspective, absolutely, and it's no different than any other museum based on pop culture iconography. the corvette museum or coke museum (if there is one) would be no different, and i think just by watching this one video that it's clear sansweet's collection should satisfy anyone's definition of 'museum.'

Slimmy_007 thanks. :) it's a dream based on me being stupid rich one day (complete with a restoration shop, of course) ~ and after doing the charitable things i would like to do. anyway, i was hoping to see more things behind cases and things. we're always used to seeing objects behind glass and roped off, usually with individual lighting and just professionally done all the way around. i went to the smithsonian just to see the 'star wars' exhibit back in, oh, 1997?, which was amazing. (i'm in ohio, so it was a cross-country trek, but not around the corner, either, lol.) *that's* how most of us, i'd say, think of museums. honestly, though, i've been to far many more museums of, shall we say, more modest means. i'm sure they would all love to have the huge spaces, custom lighting, professionally built cases with individual climate controls, conservationists on staff, the whole bit. oftentimes a 'normal' museum is a cluttered mess, lol, with just whatever old shit they could find nailed to the wall looking more like a pawn shop than a museum. kind of an aside (again), the historical society of the town i'm in bought the house i lived in when i was a kid ~ while we were living there! we were the last people to occupy the joint as a residence. pretty cool (at least to me), but as a 'musuem' of our town's history they are definitely pretty skimpy when it comes to artefacts! sansweet appears to have *too* much to display optimally, and i noticed at the very beginning of the video the sturdy and functional, yet hardly pretty, shelving. if you mean by presenting his *intentions* the best way, maybe you're right. his website is more informative, and were it not for these vids i'd never have know about rancho obi-wan, but they are pretty light on what he and his museum does charity-wise in these vids from what i've seen.
