I have had the Clareon Panoptix IOL's for 2 weeks and you are the first person who explained what I am experiencing, what the future will be like and how to add brightness to my watch and phone so I can read them! I learned more here than anywhere else. The contrast, double vision, bleed over, etc. I see it all but now I know haw to deal with it and what it will be like in the future. Great information here. You actually helped me solve some of my issues and calmed many concerns. I think I just got much more happy with my new eyes.

Thank you Kurt for taking the time to discuss your experiences. I am now almost 2 years post cataract surgery with the Panoptix implants. This may be a redundant question. I skipped around in your video. I have watched almost all of your video's and have experienced most of what you have experienced. There is one topic I don't remember you mentioning. It has to do with transmissible light with the Trifocal implants. I was diagnosed with cataracts and my Dr left it up to me to decide when I felt it was time to have the surgery. Basically, when it bothered me enough, then it would be time. There was no medical need. I was extremely nearsighted with -975 in each eye and had night glare really bad. The reason for my choice of surgery was not to get out of glasses but to improve my vision. Thinking the Dr. information about cataract progress was causing some of the issues I was experiencing, I had the surgery and had Panoptix installed. Both eyes were done, a week apart . Like I said I had very similar recovery experience and like you also see the halo's and starbursts around bright lights. This bothered me initially because the implants were supposed to help reduce this night glare. It hasn't, I have just learned to live with it, same as you. You DO lose all close vision. In situations where you would bring something closer to you to get a better look at something, its all gone. I use a jeweler's headpiece if I need to see something close. The biggest issue for me is light. Light transmission through Panoptix implants is reduced by 20%. It doesn't seem like much but I find myself always needing more light to distinguish what I am looking at. My recommendation, unless you have a medical need to have these trifocal implants installed, WAIT for the technology to improve to address some of the lingering negative points. Make sure you clearly understand what your Dr is saying and meaning regarding Cataract progress. Do your research and seek a second opinion. Once you remove the natural lenses, they are gone for good! Cheers!

Hi, I mentioned in the video's my contrast has gone down. I think it might be 10 to 20%. It is one of the drawbacks of the operation.

Thank you Kurt for your update! I made my eye surgery 3 years ago after watching your videos. With the same lenses you got (although they were little newer and updated model). Everything went great and your videos was a great insight in how my operation were going to be. And it was exactly as you described. Now living a happy life without any glasses. Thank you again!

Thank you for all your response. Today my eyes are quite blurry when driving... the doctor said I have to learn to live with it....and don't focus on it. Very disappointed but maybe in time it might improve. Nothing I can do now but after six months might have to get glasses to drive. This is why your video is important to many, you are honest...thank you

I've had trifocal implant in my good eye for almost a month- still very blurry except within the room here-- which is fine. I can see the dashboard of my car beautifully- but past the front of the car it's blurry- and reading road signs is NOT possible. I was told that my brain would adjust-- but if it DOESN'T-- that I could have a "lasik" touchup to ":fine tune" the eye later..and that with the artificial lens implanted that the lasik would NOT change as it does in those with natural lens... you might want to consider the lasik "touchup" to make it fine tuned to clear vision . I'm either going to do that-- or have them CHANGE the lens to a VIVITY.. which is said to do about 40% BETTER than the panoptix for those of us like me.

Thanks Kurt for a candid, unbiased review in your video series. Independent IOL reviews online are sadly lacking. I have recently been told I am a candidate for intraocular lens replacement (IOL) surgery. From watching your earlier videos, I have the same reasons as you and am sick of glasses. I am in Thailand and was recommended the Carl Zeiss trifocal LISA 839 MP. I sought a second opinion and was recommended the Oculentis multifocal LENTIS (I am not sure if the Comfort model or MPlus model), which appears to be an EDOF (extended depth of focus) IOL lens. The surgeon for the LISA trifocal IOL claims it is in his opinion the best lens. He has conducted over 5000 IOL implants. The other surgeon opted for LENTIS due to too many complaints of trifocal dysphotopsia (night glare, halos, starburst visual disturbances). The LENTIS is a mid strength IOL he stated. So not as clear as LISA. I am undecided and currently overwhelmed with the conflicting information as well as so many IOL lenses (not all are available to every consumer though due to each country's regulations, such as the USA's FDA). What frustrates me is the lack of independent reviewing of the many different IOL lenses in one place (the best you may get is perhaps two or three IOLs reviewed). Also, the bias from ophthalmologists/eye clinics who will not likely give unbiased views of IOLs. And other than because of financial incentives, it may also be due to their lack of knowledge of other products and their features. I wish there was a/were website/s with zero affiliation to any IOL company, that listed all possible IOL lenses (updated frequently), listed all data as well as pros and cons in both technical and layman's terms so that we can all understand. There are IOL candidates/patients who have high technical understanding, whereas there as many more who do not and are placed at a huge disadvantage, who also rely and place trust in the surgeons and their recommendations. I am sure there are very ethical ophthalmologists, but who to trust is an issue. IOL companies that heavily promote their products on search engines like Google, I notice saturate the many pages (from page one onwards) and any negative links to forums etc are rarely seen. It seems these companies have paid Google a lot of money to filter out these from search results (this is common practice). All we see are glowing testimonials from 'satisfied' patients. But the forums (albeit not that many I could find) can paint a very different picture.

I read the forums constantly as that is the only way to get unbiased reviews of post op IOL surgeries that are not glosses over by doctors and manufacturers.I will keep putting off IOL surgery until I am as completely informed as possible since this choice is one of the most important in our lives

Hi Kurt, Thanks for your time and your educative videos, they really helped me a lot 1.5 years ago. Since then I have got my IOLs implants and I am really happy. Now I’d like to share a feedback with you. After adaptation period, I started realising that colours were washed out (no pitch black letters anymore on my phone, need to push the backlight in order to get better contrast). This phenomenon is something you are describing in your videos so I didn’t mind about it. Like you, I thought it was a small price to pay to be spectacles free. Recently, I decided to have an eye check. I thought it would be a simple routine check but to my surprise, I learned that I was developing a Post Capsular Opacification (in short PCO). The eye specialist told me that it was quite common after IOL implants and that the permanent solution was to have “YAG later capsulotomy”. In short a PCO is a progressive opacification of the back capsule (behind the lens) due to growth of epithelial cells that could not be sucked out during first surgery. These cells are progressively building a greyish filter behind your lenses which is creating a symptom similar to the cataract. The solution (Yag laser capsulotomy) is a very fast and painless out-patient intervention. It takes only a few minutes per eye and the result is immediate. I had it done recently and I was amazed by the difference. No washed out letters anymore, black is really black, all colours are vibrant, no need to push the phone back light anymore. I also noted that letters are appearing sharper than ever. I don’t know if you had an eye check since you got your implants, but if not, you might want to check that and get the opinion of your eye doctor (which I’m not). Anyway, thanks again for all the time you spent preparing these videos, I’m sure you have helped many. 🙏🏻

Thanks Kurt, I had my eye op six weeks ago. Advised by my optician to go for monofocal as they have had post op referrals with patients having problems with multifocal lens which they cannot correct. Yes, even the enhanced monofocals are not perfect, I have been prescribed varifocal lens with transition. I have little near vision for reading, very sensitive to light. I accept it.

Hi Kurt, your videos were very helpful when I found out I needed to have a lens replacement in one of my eyes back in 2019 due to a cataract. So I wanted to say thank you for making them, there certainly was a lack of patient videos back then. I'd also recommend anyone researching lens replacement take a look at Dr. Shannon Wong's KZbin channel for lots of very useful (and reassuring) information. Thanks again Kurt, hope you're still giving us updates 20 years from now. For reference, I had a J&J Symfony multifocal lens fitted.

Very well explained! I did my op 6 months ago and never regretted it! Same extreme far-distance sight, minimum font size on my phone. So happy to not have to deal anymore with all those contact solutions, glasses, readers, various corrected sunglasses (with readers to be able to read my gauges etc.) All gone! Definitely worth it, especially when realizing that this will be now solved for life!

Hi Kurt! Thank you so much for your videos. I’ve had an IOL surgery with trifocal lens (Rayone trifocal toric) five days ago and I was looking for testimonials on the post surgery and adaptation as I was starting to panic on day 2 postop because of the lack of far vision, and I just found your video from 4 years ago. Very very similar experience to yours, almost inmediate short vision, good far vision when I wake up that blurs through the day... so hoping to see the result of the neuroadaptation by the next months! As you said, there are no testimonials like this, only videos from manufacturers and bad experiencies in forums. Moreover, your “scientific” way of explaining concepts and your experience is top. Thank you again and best regards from Spain!

Hi Kurt, Thanks for the videos! It's exactly what I was looking for. You provide the best, honest detailed description so I can understand what to expect. I would like your opinion about my case: I'm a high school teacher so my work day is consisted of looking at either the computer screen and looking at textbooks etc. when I do my prep work. In the classroom, I need to alternate between looking at the whiteboard from different locations in the classroom (we use whiteboards with Expo markers) and looking at my notes and looking at students work and at the computer screen if I'm teaching using a projector. I would say that in the classroom it is a constant mix of short and medium range. And of course I have to do a lot of grading/marking of students' work. The tests are usually handwritten using pencil on white paper and it can be for long period of time (60 tests to mark, each one 4 pages...poor me lol). Will the contrast issue make it hard? Too tiring? The school environment is naturally usually very lit with fluorescent lights. Like you, my main motivation is to get rid of the spectacles (I carry them ALL the time with a strap on my neck...) and at this point I also need glasses for ranges such as TV and far range although very small number. I do understand that at some circumstances there will be some inconveniences that you described about the contrast, I'm just worried that it will not work well in the school and in that case, I am doomed. Any thoughts? I am not expecting a professional response, just your opinion. And one more very important question: Have you tried to invert the screen on your phone or computer screen? Meaning that you will have black background and white letters? Would that help with the contrast? Would that allow you to use the phone with lower intensity? I'm pretty sure most phones have this setting. Or there's another setting that is supposed to help with the contrast which adds an outline to letters. I have it on my phone. Thanks again for the videos that you do for the benefit of people. Roy

Great, thank's for your update. Had my OP done on 10/2019 and on 09/2021 (late because of Covid) for the Laser correction. Have different lenses with an 8% blue light filter. Lost a little bit of brightness in the dawn but you can cope with it over time. The same as you, I do recognise some glare and halos but it is almost gone. Important as you mention in an earlier video it is due to the fact of technical design of these lenses. It can't be ignored but you should learn to put less importance on it. It will fade out as time goes on. Thumbs up, wish you all the best.

Me too, after almost five years, everything gone well, I'm happy with my Lenses (AcrySoft IQ Panoptix). There are only two things I would decide different today. The 8 % Blue Light filter is not needed in my view now, because you can wear Blue light blocking Glasses for the PC. I think I'm loosing a bit of brightness in the dawn. Second is (it is an individual issue, maybe), I would decide for toric lenses, because the Laser correction brought some discomfort, in the first two years. It has harmonized yet. Even so, Halos and Glares are not gone completely, but it is minimal disturbing, I have to deliberately look at it. Overall, success. Thanks to Kurt again for his Video Series, which explained a lot to me, before the surgery.

I had IOL surgery three weeks ago with the Tecnis Synergy lenses. They are multifocal (hybrid trifocal and EDOF style combination). Experience so far is bad. Bright daylight everything beyond reading distance is blurry. But can sometimes focus on direct objects like licence plates and street signs. Intermediate distance is strange. Laptop use is not good as blurry but watching TV is okay. Long distance is bad. Night time for me, things look clearer, except halos, starburst and glare is still quite bad from street lights, car lights. Reading - about 35cm is good, but also I have lost contrast and see black text looking like a mid grey colour on a white background. I did your technique and made a small hole with my hand and looked through it. I then see the black colour look very dark and nice contrast. Right now, I feel regret as vision is worse for me and I now feel short sighted. I have made some videos as well about my experience. Hoping neural adaptation improves things as right now it is unbearable to live like this forever. The ophthalmologist said maybe I will need laser corrective surgery several months later to correct any refractive error that may have occurred. We will see.

@@missmonasuzette I recently had YAG laser for posterior capsule opacification (PCO). My ophthalmologist thought that this was the cause of my blurriness. It made my vision worse. Blurrier and now have lost more vision quality. Now waiting for another appointment and perhaps LASIK. But the main issue may not be astigmatism. Possible I may need lens extraction and another two lenses instead. YAG complicates things a lot and can limit options with lenses. I never knew that before YAG.

You mentioned the pin hole makes the vision different... I have some PINHOLE GLASSES-- black- like sun glasses- except solid with pin holes - and it was to correct "double vision" and overlapping when my bad eye was weak. IT's helping.. glad you said that-- I forgot about having them- and can use that til my eyes "adjust." :) Only drawback is- it has to be bright sunlight-- can't be cloudy or low light.

I'm 66 years old and am very soon getting a cataract operation. I'm hoping to get the Panoptix tri-folcal lenses depending on the discussion with my surgeon. The left eye cataract is quite noticeable and I'm probably only going to have one eye done at a time. My vision through the left eye cataract is blurry at distance even with correction. Even with the somewhat blurred vision through the left eye cataract I can still see well enough to function using both eyes so I believe I'll be able to successfully neuroadapt. That being said I realize there will be some tradeoffs. I've had to make use of reading glasses for a number of years and they can be a real pain.

I'm 66 soon... had cataracts done. mine were OLD- should have been out long ago-- one was so bad it looked like a ROCK-- like you picked up a gravel on the road nad put it in there.. ANyway- had my good eye done with a PANOPTIX lens-- and that was over amonth ago- and it's STILL blurry past the front end of my car.. Everything here in the house is FINE- but driving- I can see the dashboard perfectly- but past the front of the car- everything is blurry- and reading road signs is NOT possible. Doc said my brain has to "learn to adjust the vision" based on the lens- and it would adjust-- I go back on 21st (which would be 2 months).. and he said if i still can't read well at distance-- that I could have him do LASIK as a "touchup" to the vision to " FINE TUNE" the vision.

@@davidwayne9982 Sorry to hear that you are having problems with PanOptix. I ended up being incredibly lucky. On September 30, 2021 I had PanOptix lenses implanted in both eyes on the same day. About 48 hours later I was seeing 20/20 with both eyes together at all distances. The only visual anomaly I have is that I see ghostly rings around some, but not all lights at night. Car headlights can thus be mistaken for being "blurry" when it is really just the ghostly rings. I can read street and other signs on par with what I could read before with glasses or soft contacts. If the doctor can come up with a correction, then perhaps Lasik would be worth it, but I personally would seriously weigh the risks. If my eyesight should change in for the worse in the future -- let's say I drift back into some degree of nearsightedness over a long period of time, I personally would likely go for corrective glasses, particularly if they were primarily for driving. Also of note I have always had plenty of visual "floaters" even when I was a child. Since I've always had them I've pretty much learned to ignore them.

Hey Kurt Just an update of how I am going. I have now been wearing monovision disposable lens for nearly 6 weeks. I am going to wear them for a few weeks before I make my desicion of lens replacement. I am very nervous but your videos are making more excited to have this procedure. My only concern is I have been using eye drops in the afternoon due to a little dry eye. I have had a little trouble with my eyes when I go into the shopping centres. Bright lights etc. I’m sure as time goes after the operation things will improve over time. Brain will kick in. I do love the fact that I don’t need glasses for close up and intermediate. Scenery outside looks amazing. Went to the cinema to watch movies and seem fine. My question is did you see more improvement as time goes on. Maybe I am expecting too much too soon. I am 63. This was I wanted for my 60th birthday to myself, but due to covid had put it off, so now starting the procedure all over again. Thankyou for the updates. So mine will be for one eye distance and one eye for reading. I have had my current disposable lenses changed a little to see which one accomodates my eyes the best.

So nice of you to check in with me. Yes, far vision is bad, and near is ok, but not real tiny print. I have gone back a couple of weeks ago and have this film over my eye whereby evening I can not really see, very blurry. I was hoping in time would get better. The blurriness is 90% of the time..hard to explain but like a film, but there are times it gets clear...very weird. I have read every article on dry eyes and I do the whole routine of heat, washing eyes with pads, tried both prescription drops, but they hurt my eyes more than anything. So I do artificial tears and tried every one that is preservative-free. The clarity comes and goes but never stays but for a few minutes. I even use it every hour on days that it is really bad. I wish someone could help me. My doctor says nothing when looking at my eyes. At one point told me just live with it. And mind you I am very respectful of others and since my surgery has only engaged with her twice, and that is in half a year. And on my last visit which was a month ago, she gave me a new eye drop which was a steroid with allergy medication, and told me to use it for three months. I always read before applying anything to my eyes, well all the recommendations used no more than fourteen days. What to do??? I will have to one day fly to the city and see someone who will tell me about the condition of my eyes and what to do. Did you experience blurry vision, not from the lens but from eye film? I had a multi-focal lens put in both my eyes. I am sorry to be so long-winded but thank you so much for checking in. Hope all is well with you.

Thank you for your very detailed & personal explanation. Four months ago I had PanOptix Trifocal lens implanted as a replacement after cataract surgery in both eyes, at age 70 here in Toronto, Canada. Not pleased with results: still taking over the counter drops 2x daily (did not have dry eyes prior to implants), blurry vision when the day clouds over, distance vision not clear after about 40 ft. Night driving not clear with starbursts & halos around lights, slight improvement, maybe getting used to halos but not good at all, don't feel safe driving at night. Intermediate & close vision reasonably good - no complaints. Needed to have the YAG procedure 1 month after surgery - results slightly better but always have to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days. Will likely need driving glasses but okay with that. Waiting to hear back from my surgeon on what to do. Disappointed, expensive $3,700 🇨🇦 Would really appreciate your feedback.

I have the same problem and there is no help from what I see. Did everything for dry eyes thinking that is the problem, even tried prescription eye drops which made my eyes even more blurry. Read everything I could online and watched all info on youtube...but nothing gives me the answer. Why cant they explain what the problem is. I was told to live with it...

@@123kayceegirlI continue to have the same experience. Drops only irritate, do not soothe or help to improve blurriness on cloudy days or low light conditions. @@123kayceegirl Here's something to try for dry eyes, if you haven't already. When you are in the shower, allow the warm water to flow directly over your closed eyelids. This can help to warm the oil glands present within your eyelids and possibly help get the oil flowing more freely. Also, it is helpful to eat fish such as wild salmon at least once a week. You can also spend a few minutes with a warm wet wash rag placed over your closed eyes to achieve the same effect as described above in the shower. I personally believe it is also better to be on a very low carbohydrate diet.

0828 AM I am trying to decide which lens to choose. I am a 72yo needing cataract surgery who currently have and wear trifocal glasses that are only needed for reading. My doctor suggested monofocal IOL lense replacement but I thought trifocal IOLs would be better. My question is “if I can see perfectly for mid- and long distance and only need magnification for reading; then why is a prescription needed in the IOL replacement lenses? Would you provide your insights so that I can make an informed decision. Currently I can see fine but need a little brighter light to read small print mostly without glasses. Colors seem a bit yellowed though. Thank you so much.

@Lilliancooks
@Lilliancooks 3 жыл бұрын
@@anassyria5176it didn’t go as was stated by my dr...I now have floaters and my vision is still not 20/20. My left eye now has worse vision than my right. I am told that my vision is currently 20/30 in my right eye and 20/40 in my left eye. I am having scar tissue removed from my right eye on Monday. I have been back and forth to the eye dr many times in the past 4 months. I just want the 20/20 vision I was promised. The dr will reevaluate my left eye in about another month. If my left eye hasn’t improved by then he said he will probably do lasik surgery to correct it. My vision is not sharp for distance or reading...everything is slightly blurred around the edges. I guess time will tell...I just don’t know how much time it will take and that’s the frustration and worry I have right now.

@Lilliancooks
@Lilliancooks Жыл бұрын
@@bluejay9890 I had PRK surgery in my left eye 11 months ago to try to improve my vision. It slightly improved my distance vision but made my reading vision worse. I would never recommend lens implant surgery to anyone…it’s been 2 years of misery. My vision with OTC glasses was 20/20 before this surgery. My vision now is much worse than 20/20. So if I want good vision I need to wear glasses for reading and driving. I got the lens implant because I was told I would not need to wear glasses because I would have 20/20 vision…so that was not true at all.

Hi Kurt I am booked in to have tri focal IOL implants in 6 weeks time. I’ve worn contact lenses (-3.25 & - 2.00) for 40 years. They are great, my distance vision is superb. When I’m wearing my contact lenses, I need reading glasses to read anything in hand, a book & my phone etc. I want to be free of contact lenses & reading glasses but am concerned that my DISTANCE vision will NOT be as superb as it is now (with contact lenses). Can you (or anyone else who reads this) tell me if you/they think your distance vision is better, the same or worse after your IOL implant procedure? Thanks Colin
