I use mostly acrylic water based paints and for a long time used the gold mica powders in UVLS or some other water based clear to spray. Lately I’ve been using the Amsterdam acrylic ink for the gold (as well as other colors) with great results. Being ink it sprays nicely without the need for thinning.

FYI I know acrylics aren't your thing but army painter has a new paint range coming out called "warpaint fanatics" it is supposedly a game changer that will take AP from "affordable paint" to "high end paint" just wonder if you were considering reviewing them through airbrush? Thanks!

I really like that Star Bright Gold for Gundams. I think it pulls it out really nicely BUT I wanna see how the gloss or top coat would change how it would look like. That is a question all in itself.

Resin is much more toxic to work with though, so I get why a lot of people wouldn't want to do resin printing.

@@hannahd3164 how so? dont drink it... FDM prints are more toxic because you are heating up polymers to near their vapor point, and then inhaling those vapors. pretty much no one uses an enclosure for their fdm printers unless they went out of their way to buy one because they are regularly printing things like ABS for polymer lowers; which required them to do some research and find out how dangerous those polymer fumes are. You average consumer who 3d prints with FDM, does not know or care.

all gaia lacquer paints are 1:3 paint:thinner ratio and many people who use metallic lacquers in modeling use an even leaner mix of 1:4-1:7 to bring their paints close to al-clad consistency with stellar results so this is an odd choice to go 1:1

I don't know if you are aware of the Montana rattle can gold paint. It gives very good results and it is almost chrome gold and cheap. Maybe you want to check it out.

Very cool. Gaia has some nice paint and I have used some of these with good results. I have been looking for a while and am still looking, without buying too many jars, for a bright and vibrant metallic yellow. Not sure if Gaianotes has one but the Star Bright Brass and Primary Yellow Metallic I have tried but they are a bit too green.

A possible suggestion for the Gaahleri airbrushes that, maybe you could consider/pass-on via your contacts with them? Can Gallheri please put some identifier markings/methods on their needles (like Badger) to indicate their respective needle sizes? This would help preclude any mix-ups when installing a different size needle/nozzle on the affected model airbrush.🤔 Just a suggestion.😳

As of this writing, do you have a preferred gold to use out of an airbrush? I know that you really like GSW gold, but noted that thinning them down yourself for use in an airbrush harmed the effect. I use that stuff with my brush, but now that I have an airbrush I'm trying to find the best option. Your videos are amazing as usual!

The best standard gold is Mr Color Gold 09. It's a great gold and inexpensive

Is any type of plastic cup/container safe to use with lacquer thinners/paint? Or should I be looking for a specific type?

Most plastics are fine. Hobby grade lacquers aren't nowhere near as hot as industrial solvents

Hey Robert, I really need your help/expertise on some Gaia paints I just ordered. And since you have a lot of experience buying various paints throughout the years. I feel like you’d be the one to ask! Recently, I ordered Gaia from a new vendor and some of the bottles seem to be filled less than others. Some are filled above the sticker while a few others are filled to the line right under where it says the paint type ‘pearl color’. All say 15ml on the bottles which is why I find this fishy. Does Gaia normally come inconsistent like this? I was maybe thinking the jars leaked solvent over time but im doubtful since the bottles seem to be of high quality. idk if I got scammed or I’m just over reacting? Also, keep in mind I didn’t order from the vendors you mentioned, which is why I’m even more worried right now. P.s. please excuse my cringe KZbin name, I thought I was super edgy in 7th grade lol.

You must have a lot of faith in that booth to spray lacquer thinner around willy nilly. I wish you would wear a mask and dub over the video. I probably come off as mean spirited, but i just dont want anyone getting hurt.
