I’ve seen similar results. Doing a similar test. Maybe 10% better mileage, but premium cost way more than 10% extra. I do notice less engine, knocking, though, especially when displacement on demand has kicked into four-cylinder mode.

Yes it increases power, moden vehicles have something called octane logic, they add or reduce spark timing based on octane and fuel quality. Yes it will make more power and you gain fuel efficiency, also better additives on the fuel..100% worth the extra $10 difference from 87 to 93

I have 2014 Silverado with the 5.3L. Did the Diablo canned tune for 93 octane. Stock vs tuned using 93 octane = night/day difference. The truck roars and makes much more power. Without a tune (IMHO) putting 91/93 in the truck is a waste of money.
@fishman80
@fishman80 4 жыл бұрын
I have the same truck and same tuner i suspect. Predator 2? I’ve been running the 87 tune for a year and like it. Havent tried the 93 yet but i may based on your comment. I turned off AFM too and adjusted tire size for 285’s. did u adjust anything else? I did mess with throttle boost and did not like how it ran

I can tell the difference in my 2021 1500 silverado, 93 pushes more then the 87, which is quite unpleasant if youre cruising and constantly accelerating, but pretty sure might give an advantage in maybe at a racing event, and in fuel economy, those pushes are quite strong.

I switched from regular 87 to Non Ethanol 90 octane in my 01 Dodge Ram. It's a bit more expensive but I have seen a 3 mpg improvement. I've got the 5.9 magum and I currently get 16.5 mpg. I haven't tried 93 octane yet. To me it's worth getting the 100% gas rather than ethanol blends.

For my 6.2 Chevy the fuel cap recommends premium and I have done both 87 and 93 over time. Don’t really see any difference although people on the forums say that the 6.2 are high compression and require premium for antiknock purposes
@theme61
@theme61 4 жыл бұрын
I have a 6.0 in my Escalade and was thinking the exact same thing. I run premium because all my other Cadillacs require it. but since I'm running Shell, which is a top-tier fuel here in Ohio, I'm going to run 87 for about a week and see what happens.
@jewllake
@jewllake 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, like 11.5 compression. Don't be cheap and ruin the motor. When I bought my truck the dealer filled the tank with 87 and it pinged under hard throttle. I live in CA so the highest octane I can get is 91 and it pings very slightly. The 6.2 was designed for 93 octane IMHO.

If you ever get the knock sensor code then the first thing you should do is start running 91 or 93 octane. I had both knock sensors replaced in my 2014 LTZ 5.3L 4x4 and the harnesses and then the last thing I tried after the code kept coming back was to run 91 and 93 octane fuel which would prevent the knock sensor code from popping back up.

higher octane means a higher ethanol content which can build up on the cylinder heads, however, it does burn cleaner so the engine internals will last longer but the fuel is really just for what the compression ratio is for the motor
