@silverdragonfour5 жыл бұрын
You don't have to wedge air dry clay. Wedging is done to remove the air bubbles, as air bubbles can cause pieces to explode in the kiln due to the extreme heat. Since air dry clay doesn't need to be fired, it doesn't need to be wedged unless you need to add or remove moisture from it.
@ineedken54005 жыл бұрын
@@silverdragonfour that is not entirely true. clay that has not been wedged may have air bubbles and when you try to throw it you will end up with mess.

Natalya I think cuz it is air dry you don’t need to worry about air pockets, and also she was creating many many air pockets throughout the video so 🤷🏻♀️

I always find that I wish I could do whatever it is you're doing in your videos & I really enjoyed my ceramics class in college as well. Okay that was SUPER INTERESTING!!! I took a clay/pottery in high school, but stuck to drawing and life drawing in College. We never used the pottery wheels in the class I took in high school, so I have always been curious of them. Although that thing made that horrible noise, (still not sure what was causing it when you were almost done), that was really cool, and you are really good at that. My vote for next project I would say Loom. No real reason... Just seemed to like that out of the others. Thank you for sharing this, and that piece "TURNED"... (ahhhh ahhhh... lol) out really good. I could do that by hand, but I doubt on a wheel. Awesome.
@SoCraftastic5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed! I've always loved sculpting (dating back to mini Play-Doh figurines & of course polymer clay after). I do wish I would have taken more drawing classes, because anatomy doesn't come easy for me in my art nowadays. The noise is constant when the wheel spins, unfortunately. If there were times I applied pressure directly to surface of the wheel base it may have sounded different. The loom looks like fun. Hopefully I'll catch on to the process quickly. Thank you for watching. P.S. What would be your construction method by hand? Pinch pot, coil, or some type of carve-away (can't remember if there's a term there... I just know my first assignment in ceramics freshman year of high school was to make three pots using different hand building methods.)

I have acrylics cause nail polish dip or gel will not stay on my fingers. If you scratch a bar of soap and have a clump of soap under your acrylics/long nails before you work with clay it helps not only in keeping clay from getting under your nails but its helped me in scratching or tearing my pieces while building. Your nails look really pretty! I'm glad I'm not the only adult potter who was curious about this toy.

@SoCraftastic5 жыл бұрын
For the price & quality I do feel this is a great starting point for those who'd like to see if pottery is a worthwhile hobby. I've watched a few reviews on the $20-$30 wheels & people had major issues with the wheel being level + getting the clay to stick well enough. This one passes both those tests. The tools included work well, but you could also get some metal ones for an affordable price. My main issue is the noise!! It is REALLY loud. Earplugs will help with that. Otherwise, if you have the money to spare, I'd suggest investing in a professional model (the cheapest of those start around $200+). I'm seriously considering the upgrade. If I do get one I will share a review & comparison here! Hope this info helps. Thank you for watching. 💗

@riss3375 жыл бұрын
Anna Biersack I would not recommend it. Save your money and take a class. You'll be around the proper equipment and someone can teach you the proper techniques. This wheel is far too small and weak. You'll also run into issues after finishing your creation too as you'll need to fire it, and a standard oven will not work. Pottery need to be fired at extremely high temperatures and for hours at a time. Many pottery studios will not take outside work as they do not know the your quality of work, or the specifics of your type of clay to properly fire it. After you will still need to fire it a second time to glaze it. There's a lot more reasons but these are the basic issues. I hope I'm not discouraging you from trying pottery out, it's a lot of fun!
@gmarcelle5 жыл бұрын
@@riss337 I totally agree ! This would be fine for a kid to enjoy and perhaps it would work with air drying clay which could be painted when dry.
@Hollister745 жыл бұрын
Don't, spend the money on a class that uses real wheels ! This will stall out with any pressure and you will not be able to make anything of any size on this. By the time that is fired it will be so small that it will be unusable.

That mold won't hurt you at all. It's not going to be airborne... The foot pedal doesn't reach because this is a kid's toy - meaning it would usually be placed on a kid-sized table... Don't use water on the wheel head! Clay doesn't stick to water... Don't add water to the clay or the wheel before throwing the ball down. If you use a pin tool, or a straightened-out paper clip, you can poke the bottom to see how much base you have. 1/2 inch is good. If you compress that rim every time you raise the clay, you won't have a problem with thinning... Trim with the wheel spinning and trim towards you Long nails are no bueno for pottery... Don't put clay down your drain! Clay is fine in your garden or on the grass but it will clog your drain up right fast!
