After a long day I descended the escalator down to Platforms 1 and 2 at Epping Station to get onboard the Metro when I saw this train entering the platform from a distance (my first time seeing a D set in real life!). Having just stepped off the escalator I fumbled to get my camera rolling and unfortunately I missed the front of the train - but I did get some close-up peeks of the interior and it looks real nice. I especially like the LCD passenger information screens mounted on the side of the train, which are a first on the NSW rail network.
While Platform 2 was completely deserted when I started to record, it wasn't long before aged citizens joined me on the platform to gape in awe at the new train, which was stationary at the platform for quite a long time. I believe at some point in the video, someone can be heard saying "This train looks like a Tangara!" which was quite touching to hear.
The D sets look amazing - though I can't wait to get onboard one of these, their entry to service will see the retirement of the much-loved V sets (which unfortunately I have been unable to review - they're always crowded!)
While I would have stayed to watch the train go, I did need to get the Metro (or wait another ten minutes, which I wasn't willing to do) so unfortunately I had to say goodbye to the train early.
