The manual says you should be in 5th gear at 35 and not downshift from 5th till you’re at 22mph does that sound crazy to you???

I have a VTX 1300 and yes, the manual is absolutely nuts. I usually change from 2nd to 3rd gear at 40 mph. I run third to 55. 4th goes from 55 to 70. then comes 5th which I usually run at 75 or so. So I change to 5th at 70 and the manual says change to fifth at 35... which is completely wrong for the motor. It's true that the gears mesh well at the speeds the manual recommends (which I think is their reasoning for their recommendation) but the motor basically lugs at those rpm's.
