I adjusted my steering box first. Then realized the u joints in the steering shaft where trash. Installed a borgeson intermediate steering shaft. The steering shaft along helped! I’m anxious to installed my stabilizer rack soon to see how much more it helps! Good video.

There’s an adjuster on the gear box with a lock nut that you can adjust to compensate for wear on the worm gear inside the gear box. Just loosen the jam nut, turn the adjuster a 1/4 turn with a flat head in one digestion and see if gets tighter or looser. Then you know which way to go. I’ve done this many times on pickup trucks and semi trucks. That’s what it’s there for. If it’s not leaking and you can adjust out the slack, don’t waste the money on a new one.

Im aware this is over a year old post, but I will warn anyone who will try this, do not make big adjustments to this. I tried tightening mine up alot, went to far, fucked the gears up in my gearbox after a testdrive and its never been the same since. Be very sparing with the adjustment

@@ryanalam5669 no worries man, someone's gotta screw up so someone else can learn lol, I would honestly recommend addressing other steering components before really adjusting your steering box as such, unless your truck has major miles, chances are it's not as worn out as you might think

Throw a shim kit in the steering wheel column before the firewall in the cab. My 2016 2500 6.4l gasser had 1/8-1/4” play in the pins.. has eliminated a ton of steering wheel play, ordered this bar a few weeks ago have yet to install it since it’s been raining a sh!t ton in oregon and don’t have a shop 😂 great video man thanks for sharing

Just installed mine today on my 5.9 magnum and it make a HUGE difference when I’m on the high way, my steering isn’t all over the road anymore, in my case it also helped at least 50-60%

BD has washer shims for under the steering wheel shaft underneath, just above the pedals ,you'll notice a lot of play down there and ur universal steering arm connected to the box it's self check that.

I got 1 on both 2nd n 3rd gen n when I did my 2nd gen I changed everything n still had slop n it didnt appear the steering shaft had play but it was the only thing left n I changed it n all tight now. But everytime I buy a newly used dodge I change all front end components cause I hate loss steering. I'd like to try carly or that other name that's like 800 for ball joints but it's just to much

I didn't find that the brace did much on my truck but I don't have a lift or wide tires but if it helped you and others then thats fantastic, now if you tighten up the lash in your steering box you will have almost zero slack in your steering!! (...provided nothing else is worn in your steering linkage!! )

I have a 4inch lift with 35s, this brace did nothing on my truck either. Weird how it works on some an not others.

Ya I have a redhead box on its way and 8m going to use this just for good measure .the redhead box is probably all u would ever need but this will hopefully help it last a little longer and if u go buy one from a parts store or any remanufactured one it will not b tight like new thay just put standard sise balls for the screw no account for ware .redhead measures and uses a more correct sise for the idavidual steer box

I had death wobble on my 07 5.9L when I first bought it. I upgraded to the “T” style steering and it helped but didn’t go away. Started researching more and figured out the track bar is a huge culprit for death wobble. The stock bar has rubber bushing that flex a lot and/or wear out. Upgraded to a Thuren Fabrication track bar with polyurethane bushing and a solid joint eliminated the death wobble and changed how my truck drives. I already had the steering box stabilizer.

i thought my box was done . But, I replaced to small u joint on top of the box and added the small bushings under the dash and it feels like brand new now. check these first.

lol ya when i owened my 96 dodge 3500 3" lift and 33 tire i thought it was normal in heavy trucks i replaced the steering box and all the front with mogg parts and it always still had play. and one day i got under with a buddy at the wheel and you could see the frame pushing out like a 1/2 inch i put hydro assist on it it got rid of all the play and never had death wobble again. the i bought a ford and will never go back. lol thanks for sharing

I just got one for my 03. All new front end parts but I had steering wonder and a lot of slop like yours had originally. Did this stop the constant correction of the wheel to a more comfortable drive? 😂

I put the heavy duty redhead thousand-dollar steering pump on mine with the Rough Country brace. but the track bar .. on my 5.9 dually was bad ... and holy s*** I'm going to die because of death wobble . the new track bar and it was good to go

Pretty sure that would not work on a powerwagon that has the electric swaybar disconnect as the crossbar would interfere with the electric motor.

FYI to anyone it might affect, it does NOT work on the PowerWagon. I have an 09 PW, and the electric disconnect on the sway bar gets in the way of this brace. CJC Off-road should’ve known that, (or indicated it in the description) but maybe I didn’t indicate I had a PowerWagon. And then don’t forget…CJC has their variable “restocking fee” depending on how the item is returned.

The $65 one I bought made a huge difference as well. I replaced everything under there including the box. I feel the only way to get rid of the rest of the play is to get rid of the oem box and go with the redhead one. I would really be interesting in trying one but that price is up there.

It's just a temporary fix man. The permanent solution is to upgrade the steering linkages, steering box, and steering shaft. I did a readhead box with a Borgeson shaft. The read head box is superior to OEM because it is bored out with a roller bearing that holds the sector shaft. The Borgeson shaft is a solid unit that lacks the weak bushings that cause play as these steering shafts age. It also has u joints that can be removed and replaced if they become worn.

@@darkirondiesel good choice man... i run the same linkage. Keep them lubed up and it'll work great for you. Moog products like to be really really greased well. Take a look at your ball joints too... i put moogs but honestly should have forked out the extra dough for EMF. they're fully rebuildable and that company has a lot of technical knowledge. Kinda unrelated but make sure you grease the front drive shaft cardin joint (not sure if yours has it, mine is a 2007.5) Gotta go in there with brake clean to find it and hit it with an injection needle. It's a big pain in the ass but your transfer case will blow up if you don't.

Its not really the box moving, its the movement in the sector shaft due to it being poorly supported by the bearing.
