I like the wool needles and the bent tip. I have never tried the finishing needles. I will have to get a set and try them out. Thanks for showing and sharing.

I do love susan bates finishing needles, have several sets, because sometimes yarn ends can get short and they are bi -directional, just used other end where yarn is pinched to pass through. Reminds me the action weavers do passing shuttle back and forth 😀 I have used the yellow and smaller blue ones the most with the yarns I knit with . So far and it has been years, none have broken (crossing fingers because I don't want to have to come back to edit ) Over all , my usual and what I have most of was always bend tip that helps me get under back loops for duplicate stitch.

It's good to know the finishing needles have a good shelf life. They feel very delicate (at least the smaller ones) so I'm glad to hear they hold up well!

Who knew that there was so much choice. I think though I will stick with my tapestry needles, after watching your tests. Perhaps if I come across the finishing needles in a shop I might be tempted.

I might be one of the few who enjoys weaving in ends. 😂 I like using sharp needles whenever possible to split into the yarn so it makes a good solid connection. I leave the remnant tails until I’m done washing and blocking, then clip them.

The finishing needles are great for short tails. I use aluminum wool needles for bulky yarns. You can get smaller tapestry needles too where you slip the yarn in.

i prefer metal needles but the susan bates finishing needles come in clutch for me often! also, as a frequent plush toy maker, large curved upholstery needles help when sewing amigurumi pieces together!

I find that my wool needles the ones with the loop work best for short ends. I can push the needle through loops and then I slide the short end through. I love them out of all my needles they are my favorite. I also like that I can use many sizes of yarn with them because you can open up the plastic loop.

I love to use crochet hooks or the Susan Bates Handi Tools for really short ends. My needle of choice for weaving ends is a steel tapestry needle with a straight tip. I never really got into the bent tip needles.

I use large-eye blunt straight tapestry needles, although I am intrigued by the Bates finishing needles. Norman from Nimble Needles uses a sharp pointed needle, and he tries to split the ply when he weaves in. I have never liked that method, it is secure, yes, but hard to undo if I need to frog. I am going to try duplicate stitch for weaving in, following your expert advice. I enjoyed this video!

I prefer clover bent tip needles, but for finer projects like socks, I like a small tapestry needle, also from clover. I hadn’t heard of weaving in with duplicate stitch! I’ll definitely try that in future 😊

The Yarn Needle allows you to work short ends. You weave the needle through the fabric first, then thread the yarn and pull the needle through

I got the wool needle for when I had buttons to attach with holes I couldn't fit any of my needles through. I pushed the loop through the hole, barely threaded the loop to not add bulk and pulled it through. A pain in the neck but it got it done.

Do you ever split the yarn of the stitch you're sewing into to weave in ends? Hope that makes sense 😊😊
@NerdyKnitting3 ай бұрын
Yes, I often do that with slippery yarns to make sure they stay in place.

Knitter's Pride have a set of wool needles one of which is smaller and shorter. About $8.

Thanks for your review. I may have to give the Susan Bates needles a try - different sizes are key for me. Not a fan of plastic because i tend to break things. I have metal blunt, bent, and sharp needles of varying sizes. A couple of blunt needles can easily handle bulky yarn, which makes it so easy. On a side note, wool and acrylic are much easier to weave in. I don't trust cotton. 😅

The finishing needle definitely looks interesting. I really like the large opening for threading the yarn. I like the short length of it too. Were you able to split the yarn as you were weaving in the ends in order to hold/lock the tail to the back side? Was the point sharp enough?

Love them. I have been using them for 2 years.😊

Raises hand and waits to be called on ....... I can chime in , yes, Cindy you can split those plies , the tips are sharp/pointy enough, pulls through smoothly . ( Best of luck in your Master Hand knitting adventures. )

I notice that the wool needle (the one with the large plastic eye) is a lot longer than a tapestry needle. I’d say that is a definite drawback because you’d have to leave extra long yarn tails in order to make that work.
@beverlythompson32463 ай бұрын
Very interesting side by side comparison- I don’t have a favourite but I’d like to try the Susan Bates ones. Do you weave in ends differently when working with plant based fibres?
@NerdyKnitting3 ай бұрын
Sometimes - if the yarn feels slippery I'll either work a longer section of duplicate stitch or divide the plies in two and weave them in different directions.

Hmmm my bent tapestry bends in the middle, i bet i would like the ones with just the tip bent better. I only use mine because its the perfect in between size

I have used the darning needle and found that if the yarn was thicker or fuzzy, it was getting caught in the latch.
@krautkopf653 ай бұрын
I tried the latch hook a few times and I really don’t like it for weaving in ends. Not for crochet either.

I like the Bates finishing needles, but I find myself using only the two smallest sizes, even with bulkier yarns, because they feel "chunkier" than regular metal needles. I would say that the bent-tip tapestry needle is my favorite, but they don't come in different sizes, at least not that I've been able to find. I can't use them to weave in ends on my socks because they're just too big. If anyone knows where to get these in different sizes, please let me know!

I've gotten them from Knit Picks - and they have different sizes.
