Most of Hydroid's survivability comes from using his abilities. Always keep 4 and 3 up, and then cast his 1 (or 2) as needed. He needs range, strength, energy management and duration to buff both his offense and defense. I find Fast Deflection works better than Redirection in solo play due to way Shield Gate works. In practice, I tend to get more invulnerability frames on average when soloing with Fast Deflection. Also Fast Deflection works better for operator swapping for survivability. For group play or solo (with high crowd control), Redirection is a decent side-grade b/c your warframe isn't constantly the focus of fire. Steel Fiber is bad on Hydroid. Lean into range and strength so you you can reach the armor buff cap when casting his 3 (its a bigger buff than Steel Fiber). Go into operator mode if you catch a DOT on your warframe and are about to die. Also, consider getting Rolling Guard (Arbitrations). This mod clears status effects and gives you temp invulnerability.

If you’re having trouble surviving in steel path I recommend unlocking the focus tree vazarin or Madurai if you don’t already.Vazarin has a dash that makes you immune. Madurai has a last stance after your warframe goes down where you can revive yourself after getting kills.a good amp works great with the second school.

Thanks for the tip! I have a LOT of work to do on the focus schools. Making good progress on Venurik, and just started working on Madurai (I believe that's the new one I was working on). Good to know either way. Cheers!
