What props did you use (there is a massive difference of air pushed through and around the motor depending on the prop design at the hub)?

Some great data here. There's a bit of tradeoff that occurs between propeller size and thrust produce vs. torque (stator volume). Often with Cinewhoops the tendency is a bit smaller propeller that operates at higher rpm to gain the additional thrust to support heavier loads (propeller disk load to support camera). The higher rpm likely means increased airspeed, over the motor which effect cooling to a degree. The bit smaller propellers may also counter part of the inertia mass effect of a flatter motor. All-up flight weight at propeller loading is an aspect that often gets overlooked. Hopefully you get a bunch of great crowd-source data to help dive deeper into this fascinating topic.

Could you maybe make a video on how to tune ducted cinewhoops? This is by far the most complicated thing I have ever tried to tune, it´s infuriating. There are no good videos on how to do that on KZbin. I bet if you make a video then it will be state of the art!

Awesome Analysis. May be worth a video, but how did you come up with the power required vs prop diameter curve. I’m familiar with momentum theory etc. I’m just wondering what was held constant in this case (rpm, thrust, prop pitch, etc). Love the generalization of the torque theory and how that connects thermals to stator surface area. Clean conclusion. Really just looking for the rest of the build up that might have been skipped in the video as the assumptions were baked into the fact it was for a cinewoop etc. I’m looking to replicate similar analysis but a little more background would be helpful. Also you grabbed data for 3 min of run time and 60C surface temp. Would it be correct to say that delta temp change is actually more important than final temp. I guess your assumption was that all your testing was conducted at the same ambient. I’m thinking ahead…. I’d hate to do this test on my motors at lab bench ambient 22C and expect it to not bust 60C in say 35C ambient flying conditions. Just making sure I follow this correctly. Thanks again!! Solid work.

Hi Chris! Im curious what do you think about the setup of the Terraplane (hexa ducted 3" props with 2207 2500kv on 6s). Thank you!

3 inch cinewhoops used to run on 1408, 1507 or 1606 motors. If you look at the cinewhoops today, they all come with 20xx or 22xx motors. I like the brotherhobby 2005 2450kv motors on 6S and HQprop 85mmx6.

I built a chendrone squirt v2 and with dji action 2 and 1050mah battery i come in at 497g. Using gemfan 3" on brother hobby 1407's and I tuned to where the motors don't get hot and run 3 to 5 minutes with cool motors and it's smooth. Also using BF 4.3 rc 6 and I have no vibrations.

1408 are still the best bet you get 5 mins of flight and a lot less weight. No need for such big motors on a whoop

Very informative! I’m trying to run a Crown frame with TMotor F2203.5 - 2850kv on 6s. Very good flying performance with Hero10 and 1100 lipo. But desyncs on rolls. Trying to tune motor params to fix it.

Wow, i got 1507 3800 kv with full shaft for a 3” cinewhoop, so u ds like wrong choice. New at this, got these motors based on friends recommendation, sound like i might be wasting my time mounting them, it on an DJI 03 system, no no plans for an add on camera. What do you think? Great video..

I have the squirt v2 with brotherhobby 1407 3600kv motors it's been great with the session 5 and hero 6. My next cinewhoop will be the Foxeer Foxwhoop 2.5, I think I am going to pair it with a 1404 4500kv motor, would I benefit by going to a 1206? I won't be carrying a fullsized gopro

The part on the dissipated power into the motors is wrong (73 W per motor, etc.). There's a part of the consumed energy used to produce a mechanical work transfered to the propeller, it's the purpose of a motor. Later, this mechanical work will be converted into heat by dissipation into the air because of turbulence, but it's not a part of the motor at all. All the energy sucked by a motor is not heat for itself, it's not a radiator 100%...
@BogHopperFPV
@BogHopperFPV 2 жыл бұрын
If you look at timeline 7:57 I don’t think Chris was saying all the power was converted to heat - rather, by experimentation, this was how hot all those motors got when producing 73W of thrust What doesn’t seem to be taken into account is the heat generated by an incorrect tune - this might heavily influence his ‘crowd-source’ data gathering
