If your thinking about doing hub conversions and air bags your better off just doing a axle swap and suspension swap from another truck most of the time they cut the rails off the scrap trucks right in front of the axles and set them aside. Most trucks have the same size and width frame rails as well so it’s a super easy swap!

Love the build. Remember, CDL is based on what the vehicle is capable of hauling, not what you actually haul.
@rollingops8 ай бұрын
100% probably one of the most misunderstood things about the CDL GVWR/GVWRC. I know farmers who are 60 years old who didn't realize that
@rollingops8 ай бұрын
If that drop axle isn't factory and the 23,000 is referring to just the single axle back there (which I'm sure is the case) and we decide to leave it on. Class B CDL with manual and air brakes required. If we remove the drop axle, poof no cdl needed. Kind of a funny thing how that all works really
@bmrentalsnevada51638 ай бұрын
It is odd, I've never seen that configuration on that old a truck. My recommendation is to bite the bullet and get your CDL A. It's not hard to do with a little effort, and the opportunities it opens up for expansion in the future far outweigh the costs of trying to get around it.
@EZBinTx8 ай бұрын
What if you just grinded that angle iron lip down a little so that bolt doesn't catch, rather than flare it? Also you could weight the front and rear axle, then load a loaded dumpster and see where it sits and 'feels" good and/or re-weigh at scale, then set your locking point. Just my thoughts but this project is awesome man! I have no idea on color, but maybe go with a rare factory color of that year. Keep up the work man!!!! @KeldermanManufacturing this man needs your bags!!! 🤘🤘

My personal opinion all the glitter doesn't make the truck anymore, $ spend the dollars on an extra dumpster or 2 for the truck. All the glitter can be added or done later date once some of the dollars are recovered from the build. Cool, older truck. Go to an auction and find an old ratty truck with a Cummings and a complete driveline for the conversion. Great project

If you spool out the winch wire so you have enough to use a snatch block plus like 6-8 first wraps on the winch it will pull much better. The winch rating is just on the first wrap layer. Per harbor freight 4th layer is 6732#, 3rd layer is 7885#, 2nd layer is 9517#, 1st layer is 12000#. So snatch block would be 13464#, 15770#, 19034# , 24000#

If you think the GVWR of the truck is without the tag axle, then you maybe required to get at least a class B CDL. If that has air brakes then you need an air brake endorsement regardless of the GVWR. As far as my suggestion on the paint color, paint the cab of the truck a conservative color and then go whole hog on the dumpster color with logos or designs.
@rollingops8 ай бұрын
Class B for sure if over 26k. But believe it or not, based on everything I have read and been told. If the truck is under 26k and has air brakes, you do NOT need a CDL. Butttt because this has a tag on it, you basically need to have one.
@bobber558 ай бұрын

With how much it weighs, and how much your loads weigh, I don’t think you need the lift axle. Could save a lot of money by removing it.
@rollingops8 ай бұрын
I agree, but I really like that "semi look" when it's down. Just a little different than most. If I remove it, I'd def cut the frame down because it looks really odd with such a large frame and the axle in the middle. Makes me wonder more and more if the tag axle came factory from Ford because it would loon really odd otherwise

I would have just put 10 gauge plate as a Deckover surface with the winch mounted to the plate then have two 3 ft rails welded to the plate as guides then you can pick up any manufacturers container made period Then the container can't slide sideways and all you need to do is put a short length of chain with a hook and strategically placed the Rings to lock the load in place. With the deck over you don't need fenders either and it's also a very wide open loading area no rails to have to precisely line up

That dumpster seemed a little too far back. I do a lot of chassis and frame mods and see many people not properly loading single axle trucks and frequently end up light or too heavy on the front axle, you look too light on the front axle as your rear axle is quite far forward to have room for that goofy drop trailing axle. I’d remove that and shorten the chassis 2-3ft

@rollingops7 ай бұрын
Hey man! You're right. I did say that probably at some point, but this definitely isn't for daily use? I thought I said that in the video, but maybe not? I do recall making a video, talking about how I didn't understand how people would invest in a trailer just to abandon the whole system and reinvest in a hook truck because the rails don't match. And how I was just going to continue to run a trailer because that's what I felt like was the best move for me. This is more of a truck to just be used as marketing and branding? I truly wouldn't rely on it for daily operations. It will be used more for advertising and occasional loads. It's literally 50 years old. And I promise I don't know everything, and I have much to learn. You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm just here sharing my experience, not trying to tell anyone that one setup is better than another. I'd buy and build a lot of different things if money wasn't an obstacle. 🤡 (get it, it's me, I'm a clown)
