I love that you did the reviews for darker skin. I will say that darker skin is actually more prone to skin cancer and we are more likely to die from it than lighter skin. We have larger melanocytes and it lets in more UVA and UVB rays. Because we have darker skin it will take longer for us to notice the damage and we tend to get treatment at a later stage of the disease. We need at least an SPF 50 and preferably a mineral sunscreen if possible.
@benenon2 жыл бұрын
Very true! It's harder to notice damage so it can take longer before getting a diagnosis. As long as you're wearing sunscreen, I think the type (physical or mineral) is up to you. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, works for your skin, and is protecting your skin :)

Thanks so much for trying these out! I love the black girl sunscreen in the spf 50 kids version because it is actually cheaper ($10) but I will say it leaves such a noticeable shine very close to oiliness (that my family points it out). Dr. Dray recommends the black girl sunscreen but the kids version. Maybe it never crossed your mind to try sunscreens for kids so I'm just gonna put it out there. Also, I wonder if you US residents have L'Oreal sunscreens available? I live in South East Asia and I have light-medium skin (it tans pretty quickly if I spend too much time under the sun) and I like L'Oreal sunscreens since it doesn't leave a whitecast, pretty oily-skin friendly, and pretty affordable (I got mine for $7.9 for 2 bottles of 30mL).
@benenon3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendations! I've already added the black girl kids version to my list. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Which L'Oreal sunscreen did you like? We have a couple of them here.
@alia_babo3 жыл бұрын
@@benenon I like L'Oreal UV Perfect Super Aqua Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ but I'm not sure if it's available in the US bcs of FDA regulations on chemical filters. However the sunscreen itself is a watery gel formula so it's pretty oily-skin friendly and it offers a good amount of protection. There's a matte one but I find matte formulas to weirdly make my skin oilier so I don't recommend that one. The other one is a "tone-up" formula but I don't recommend "tone-up" creams for medium-dark skinned people because it's gonna make them ashy and the "tone-up" concept itself being problematic.

Guys, I'm from Italy. A black friend of mine doesn't use SPF 'cause she can't find an SPF without a white, gray, or blue cast for body and face. So if anybody has suggestions, please write them down below. Here I can find easily La Roche Posay, Uriage, Nivea, or Rilastil.
@alia_babo3 жыл бұрын
Has she tried chemical sunscreens from those brands? Usually chemical formulas don't leave a whitecast. I have light-medium skin tone (I'm south east asian) and I've personally tried Nivea's and La Roche Posay's sunscreens and both sunscreens are chemical sunscreens and they don't leave a whitecast on me. The one I've tried from Nivea I believe is exclusive to Asia so unfortunately I'm not sure if she can find that in Italy but Nivea has many chemical sunscreens that are available in the EU, so maybe she can try that instead. The one I've tried from La Roche Posay is the same one from this video and as you can see, it left a whitecast on her so if your friend is the same complexion or darker, I don't think it would work on her. However La Roche Posay has many other options so maybe she can try those. Other brand that I would suggest to try is Altruist. I believe it's a UK brand so idk if it's available in the EU since brexit but maybe she can get them online. I've tried it and like it so much because it doesn't leave a whitecast and comes in water resistant formula. Unfortunately it became pretty pricey to have them shipped to my country so I don't buy them anymore.

@@SK-ut6tw Feel free to ruin your skin and expose yourself to possible skin cancer. That's your choice. But I am curious as to why you'd waste your time searching for these types of videos if you don't believe in sunscreen?...was it boredom? Or are you like a skin care Jehovah's witness where you feel compelled to just spread your sun gospel?

@@Kay2be2mr if she was fair skinned I would be all for it. White/fair skin is highly suseptable to melanoma and sun damage. Dark skin has the opposite problem. High rates of vitimin d deficiency. Which leads to many other ailments. More sun for someone with her tone would benefit her because her complexion require higher sun exposure for health. Whereas someone from say northern Europe doesn't even need sun exposure.

It depends on my day but I apply every 2 hours, especially if I'm in direct sun.
