I have tried a lot of these products because I used to be a product junkie. I will be 52 this year and I realize that consistency is the key. Vitamin C in the day, Retin at night. Good moisturizer and sunscreen. Eat well and get out the house and walk. Lift some light weights. Drink water 90 % of the time. Or Sparkling water with fruit. No fillers or Botox needed yet. I also use the FOREO Bear. Great video!

I use The Ordinary Niacinamide serum. I love the price point and that it helps control my oils, as I have oily skin. It does not irritate my skin at all. I didn’t even know 10% was considered high because that’s how much it doesn’t cause any irritation for me. However, people say Niacinamide is a great active for uneven skin tone/getting rid of dark marks. I use my Niacinamide every day for months. I’m not really seeing where it helps with discoloration. I wish it could work that way for me. 🥺

I love The Ordinary Niacinamide serum! It's def a holy grail for me. Background - I'm 31 and had always only used Clinique combo-dry cleanser, Clinique exfoliating lotion #2 (the liquid that's similar to a toner), Clinique moisturizer (moisture surge intense or 72-hour hydration - LOVE this), and sunscreen throughout my 20's. I've always had clear, even skin, maybe a blemish around that time of the month but nothing too crazy. Then I turned 30 and my skin changed (small stubborn flesh tone bumps and hyperpigmentation around my mouth), so I decided that I may need to try an active or serum. I tried TO's Niacinamide serum and literally saw results the next morning. I still use it almost everyday, but I notice that if I go longer than 3 days without using it, my dryness and hyperpigmentation makes a grand entrance. I also use TO's Lactic Acid 10% + HA here and there - it's ok I guess. I also use Heritage Store's Rosewater Toner after each skincare step and I LOVE it - another HG! I'm thinking about trying Retinol for prevention but I'm nervous. My mom always says if it aint broke don't try to fix it lol. Do you recommend a Retinol/retinoid for early 30's? The Youth to the People cleanser dried my skin out sooo badly 😫while my skin did feel really clean after using it, it was just WAY too stripping. I actually really love the the Black Girl Sunscreen because it's so moisturizing. I'm really dry in my t-zone and I think the glow makes my skin look healthy. I know, unpopular opinion on this product lol.

Right! I like Black Girl Sunscreen for my body only, I wouldn't dare put it on my face. I used it on a recent beach trip and I liked. Now what I liked was Sun Bum sunscreen spray on my body when laying out in sun. Super Goop Unseen Sunscreen... it didn't do much as far as affecting my skin but I want a little moisture and I didn't like the matte look. Sometimes 10% Niacinaminde can cause irritation when using it every day. You really only need about half that in percentage. Try using it once every other day. Also some products and serums already have Niacinaminde in it as first ingredient, so you could be already getting it. I stopped using my pure Niacinaminde daily and only use it when needed bc it caused me irritation as well. Love your videos ❤

I definitely have to give the black girl sunscreen a shot over the winter (most sunscreens aren't moisturizing for me during that time of the year). I wear sunscreen everyday, so I try to look for mineral sunscreen that is friendly towards our water system yet doesn't leave a white cast. I've been recently trying Hero Cosmetics' Force Shield. It's a great, lightweight sunscreen. Blends easily, just doesn't moisturize. The Ordinary Niacinamide I did try. I used about half a bottle. Didn't do anything for me at all. What did help restore my skin barrier (I dehydrated my skin in my late teens-early 20s due to using an acne product that didn't work well with my skin - Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean cleanser; at early 30s, my skin was still really dry when it was initially oily) is Ceramedx Ultra Moisturizing Cream. It contains plant-based ceramides and is like a cruelty-free version of Cerave cream. I've been using it for half a year now and it's my holy grail moisturizer.

It made my skin look a new level of oily. I use it on the backs of my hands because I paid for it & don’t want it to go to complete waste. I had such high expectations for it, I’m mixed & oily so I thought it was going to become my new go to. Yeah, never mind! Why is it so hard to find matte , cast-less suncream!?!😭

Make it Matte is the best out of the BGSC line. I bought like 5 different kinds and just started using it on my children and body bc it's way to shiny and heavy and didn't work well when I wore make up. I haven't tried SG but I saw there is a Trader Joe's dupe for 8 bucks so imma try that first. Love your channel ❤️ New Subbie!

I personally don’t like Cerave brands because my skin doesn’t change at all. I’m a 15 and used it for about a year and it didn’t work for my face but actually got worse. I feel like the best sunscreen I use is Neutrogena sunscreen clear skin breakout free oil free sunscreen; it’s not oily and I use for my body. My skin person like harsher chemical. So for the past 4 months I have used one main brand which is Mario Badescu which works perfect for me. I use the face soap, toner, anti acne serum, and drying lotion. Then I just use victim c as moisturizer day and night.

I am still working on the every 2 hours……Also you have lead me to be more informed about skincare needs and how to take care of my skin now that I’m turning 39. Oh and you definitely put me on to drugstore products that i would have never touch with a 10 foot pool before you.I now follow Dr Alexis S and Dr V. By the way Dr V said to start with 5 % niacinamide because starting at 10% was found to be very irritating in her patients.

Niacinamide by ordinary is great, I had dark spots this product is been a miracle on my skin, you have to find out how to use it on your skin so it won't irritate you. The way that I use it is: I spray rose water put light moisturizing, niacinamide then moisturize again, you have to way at least 5 minutes between products to let it work, I use hyaluronic acid from ordinary too combine with vitamin c the trick is give time between products and clean your hands before touching your face, hope this help!😊

Cerave was meh for me. My nose area felt dry and my undereyes a bit too. It did moisturise the other parts of my face well (But not as well as Aveeno! That left a healthy glow and the rough areas of my skin felt even less rough with Aveeno. ) but the fact that this cream got so much hype yet it didn't do the job on my nose properly was disappointing. Aveeno was much much better! Try aveeno y'all

A product worth the hype is the Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream! It is SO good, good! I use it after my retinoid and it protects and conditions my skin.I've never had a negative reaction to any retinoid from low to high strength and my face feels great. Overhyped product - Le Mer Creme! I loved the thick texture and the smell, but for the price it doesn't do much for the skin other than moisturize. I get more beneficial ingredients in my Cerave SRN Cream :) It smells good and feels good, but I don't mix it with actives because of the fragrance and other ingredients. This is such a great video! I've used the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and it was really nice! I liked that they had a shade that worked for me as a black woman, and I don't like heavy makeup. It gives me good coverage that lasts all day. One foundation that disappointed me was the Mented foundation stick. I loved the lipsticks and wanted to love the foundation. It was just too dry and patchy, not easy to apply.

First things first, I love your hair!!! You're gorgeous girl!! I have tried a few of the products mentioned. I'd say that both, the Biossance sunscreen and the Pipette were epic failures for me. Both made me looked like the Corpse bride! The Youth to the People cleanser flared up my rosacea and that ain't cool. The cerave moisturizing cream is great to slap on top of my retinol. it has helped with the dryness. The supergoop sunscreens are overhyped and overpriced and the worst thing.... they leave me with a gross white cast. The glow recipe package is pretty and that's where it ends for. I can't get the smell. Oh well. Thank you for creating a wonderful community where we can respect each other's opinions.

I've been using the pipette for some months now and I like it. I think it's better during the cooler months, as it makes me a little shiny during these summer months. But it definitely does leave a cast. The cast intensity depends on how well you rub it in. But if you're a deeper chocolate beauty, it will leave a cast no matter what. I'm more caramel and the first few times I used it, my husband said I look like a ghost and asked if I was bleaching 😳🤦🏽‍♀️😂 I learned quickly to not go so hard so fast and rub it in like my life depended on it and not go too heavy. I was late to the skincare game, so Im on a mission now lol

I never even got a chance to try the BGS matte version because it was always sold out at Target. So I tried the kids version, which I like better than the original. It still a bit too emollient, but when my skin is on the dry side, it works. Probably better for colder months. The Biossance & Kinship mineral sunscreens are both good, but the Kinship has a better price point and is less shiny on my face. P.S. I’ve skipped trying Herbivore products after watching that pretty products video.

Cerave Moisturizing cream is a life saver. I have struggled for years with itchy skin. I limit my showers to the shortest amount possible (forget abt taking a bath) and try to only use lukewarm water, but my skin always gets extremely from the moment I get water on my body. It stays itchy. I was recommended this moisturizer by my dermatologist (honestly the best I’ve found in GA after seeing so many). The moment I started using it, I noticed a tremendous change. I make sure to keep my skin moisturized 2-3 times a day and can finally live my life like everybody else. And it doesn’t make my skin feel greasy.

Love videos like this. My skin care routine is BASIC so it's nice to see what works and what doesn't work for others. Dr Dray is a fan of the BGS kids' version because of the higher SPF. As for the Herbivore bakuchiol, there are videos out there on their bakuchiol not having active bakuchiol (supposedly due to some shortage/problem in the supply chain) and them failing to tell the public...

So because we are black women and POCs over here. I think I know why some of these products fail for so many of us. Our skin takes lower percentages of actives better than higher percentages. So instead of 10% Niacinamide for instance. We should probably be using 5% or lower. Many of us are also sensitive to AHAs and should stick to BHAs and PHAs. In low amounts. I've noticed that many products aren't geared specifically for us.

I love ordinary’s niacinamide serum- I have combination acne prone skin and I find that especially in the summer, my face produces increasingly more sebum then it does in the winter (probably no surprise there). I also have sensitive skin and was quite surprised that actives like this one didn’t freak my shit out too much. I would say for people who do have a reaction to this maybe dilute the product with a moisturizer (couple of drops on top of the cream while in hand) before applying it to your face. I also found that there are some moisturizers that don’t mix well with niacinamide but of course it’s all about trial and error♥️

In addition since my teenage years I’ve always had backnee and hyperpigmentation on my back and upper arms which I carried into adult hood. CeraVe moisturizing cream worked!! It completely cleared my back from breakouts and black spots which I didn’t expect!! I was just looking to use more gentle products on my skin. After CraVe I also used skin fix resurface moisturizer as well, the one in the green tub on my body which also smoothened my skins texture as well. In the past I use to try bleaching creams which did absolutely nothing!!! My face has improved quite a bit. I just have a little hyperpigmentation and need to work on smoothening my skin. That will be my goal this fall.
