Phew. Nothing to add to my wish-list for when my low-buy ends 😂. I think your scene turned out really well!! You certainly managed nicely with the product considering you don’t enjoy that medium very much. I’m not a soft pastel or oil pastel person, although I appreciate seeing other people work with them (I just don’t want to touch them!). I have a few pastel pencils, but that’s the extent I’ll use them. It saves money not to like all the artsy things 😂.

Just started watching. When I took a pastel course in the 80's, the instructor advised using latex or tight fitting rubber gloves. So glad she did. Bought a lot of pastels in the 80's. A lot of them have heavy metals. As someone who went thru treatment for heavy metals later, so glad pastels were not the problem. My current location has a rug. Saving them to use outside.

Use this paper for neocolor 2 !! And oil pastels as well I think

Yes, oil pastels work really nice on this paper. I do not like this paper for soft pastels and colored pencils. I did not try the Neocolors on it, will have to do that :)

I really liked your painting. (I heard pastel artists call it painting, so I think that's what it's called) I think I remember someone saying the sand paper was also good for colored pencils. I wish I could remember who. Chalk pastels is the one medium I really really want to like, but I just cannot with the powdery feel. I've tried wearing gloves, using an easel with sticky tape to catch the dust, I've tried the pan pastel blenders, nothing works. So not entering, but I do appreciate the chance to :)

I did laugh about those reds because in my early painting journey it was that cozy feeling that would mess me up. After lots of mixing experience it finally sunk in. 😂

I don’t blame you not wanting to touch the pastels😂 I want to sneeze just looking at all that dust in the swatch chart! I prefer pastel pencils if anything, at least you don’t need to touch them. The art is very vibrant so it’s just too bad soft pastels are so unpleasant to use for some of us!😢

I use pan pastels in model painting. They can be dusty but you don't have to touch them. You can apply them with a sponge type applicator or a paintbrush.

Hi Miranda, I love your videos! I'm excited to see your use of soft pastels. Your artwork is beautiful! I've discovered that this is actually my new favorite medium. And I'm working on becoming a pastel artist myself. I used to think watercolor was my medium, but I'm learning that I feel like more of a natural with soft pastels. Hey I almost hate to comment this because they are sold out again - but I was SUPER LUCKY to actually notice on the day that Sarah Burns' gouache brushes got restocked at Craftamo. I could have so easily missed the email (in fact, I would have... I noticed because I randomly went to the website to drool!) Anyway THEY ARE AWESOME and you are so right to recommend them! I compared them to other brushes with the "same" fibers but after using some other brushes that are fine -- nice, even -- I could still tell that Sarah's are just perfect and they certainly lay swatches down better than other brushes. I'm surprised about this, but they are actually better than Princeton Velvetouch. Anyway, thanks again for recommending them! I saw you were using them on the livestream a couple weeks ago!
