Very good information. I bought one for my hens after watching your video. Thanks & God bless!

I used 4 gallon square buckets. Depending on the thickness of the buckets, the round ones don't want to seal that well.

I made a feeder with a tractor supply 5 gallon bucket, 3 90 degree 3" pvc pipe, and pvc cement. Came out great, hardly any feed spillage. Hangs from a chain and they dont perch on it. Cost was around $40 and should last years!

Great video bro, I’ve been looking to make one of them feeders.

Thanks brother. It will serve its purpose!

A very disappointing feeder. The ports don't curve down on the inside, so the chickens knock lots of food out when they peck at the food in the tube. It leaves a big mess on the floor/ground and wastes lots of food. Pass on this and just go with the PVC pipe version.

I’m using a rectangle or a square bucket the kind that you get with dry laundry soap or cat litter. You have more options with that

Would it work if you put the bowl shaped part that you put inside facing down, to put it on the outside but facing up like a little bowl for them to eat out of? You could probably fill it a lot more since bowl shape would prevent it from overflowing. Not sure if that make since. Broilers are next up on my list. Nice video bro keep it up!
@appalachianjack992 жыл бұрын
I tried it that way, but the shape basically funnels it all out like a water slide. Literally falls through. That was my thinking also, but it failed big time, especially when moving them every day

If you are keeping food in front of the chickens at all times, so they never run out (layers and layer replacements), the four holes should be plenty for most small backyard flocks.

All of those things are the same basic design and work very well. I use them myself but fair warning. If you have roosters like Copper Marans that have huge beautiful combs you'll need to make other provisions for them because they can't get their heads in the feeder ports.

im using this feeder as well seems like we are using or i guess i should say wasting food ends up on the ground are you having same issue any help would be appreciated have a blessed day

Yes. I do not use a feeder now. I use a chicken tractor so all my food is put on the ground, and it all gets eaten

If you go to the bakery section of your grocery store some of them will give or sell you very cheaply, food grade frosting buckets. They come in 2 gal, 3.5 gal, and 5 gal sizes. Clean them up

I have a medium tub with the same pipes. My 16 week buff’s have made a horrible mess and wasted a lot of food. It sets on blocks. I have a hanging small bucket with the same pipes and there is very little waste.

i put the small side inside and the bowl end on the outside
@pershop49502 жыл бұрын
You showed the installation, which is nice and easy. I can see that without a lip outside, there could be spillage as the chicken is pecking in on the food, and even with small babies like this, as you said, it only allows one chicken head in there. In your use, how was it for the laying hens?
@appalachianjack992 жыл бұрын
It would work great if you feed continuously, but feeding once per day is not ideal because only a few can access the feed holes while the others fight to get it
@steveleaton94312 жыл бұрын
I bought the kit and they waste a LOT of feed. Not happy with it at all
@user-neo716652 жыл бұрын
You don't ever want to hang one of these feeders. The swinging with a birds head in the hole can injure them. I've used a home made one of these (using pvc 90s) in a 55 gallon drum for a flock of meat birds for years. Works just fine. You just need to make sure the ratio of openings to birds is correct.

They are junk. The nut will not tighten. Allows chickens to scatter feed.
