Yes, it was, the hovering camera held very steadily. It did occur to me, though, as a former farm labourer, that that machine was designed to go round a field clockwise, if working from the outside in. Because the cut grass is then left on the outside and doesn't interfere with the next pass. All the old reciprocating mowers that I remember using [in the UK] were used that way, too. Anyway, thanks very much for the video.

I made the mistake, once, of going into a stereo shop and asking for the shop keepers cheapest speakers. He didn't pause a second and replied, "We don't have any cheap speakers here!" I then realized my mistake and have used it ever since: What is you lowest cost speaker? That brush hog looks like a fine machine, something that when it wears out, you'll be able to fix it with little problem. Great video, Wes thumbs up.

Hey there! little tip ive learned with my 86HP workmaster is when engaging the pto go slow, will easy the jolt when it engages and take some of that jolt force off of the bearings

Looks like a grade 3 bolt. I used grade 8 on my snow blower but I would tighten it up. When it sheared it was a clean break. When using a mild steel bolt if it isn’t tight it has a tendency to bend, that’s why I keep the sheer bolt tight. The slip clutch it a great feature.good looking machine my friend, should give you many years of service, especially the way you look after things. I m sure if you look at the other mowers you would be able to find flaws in them, good example is tilt trailers, made in the USA but after a couple of years they rust and look like it was made anywhere but in the USA.

If you get into mowing something that you want to look a little better, you need to make sure the mower is cutting level with the ground. You can level it side to side on some level concrete or packed dirt, but level the blades, not the mower frame/sides (they can somehow get bent.) In leveling front to back you need to have the front cut a little (an inch or so) lower, so that you are not recutting on the rear and using more fuel. Consider that the small rear wheel on the mower probably will sink into loose dirt deeper than the large rear tractor wheels, if you level it fore and aft on concrete or packed dirt. Enjoy your new 'toy' and be safe around it. The end of the blades are traveling at around 100 mph, so you do not want to be in the way if one hits a 'line drive'. Also keep spectators away, since they are more in the range of fire. The tractor driver is up higher and has the PTO shaft, 3 point links, and other metal to 'shield' him. I have been hit on my heel by one third of a brick, but good work shoes limited it to a good 'sting'.

In the thicker grass you'll notice your clippings are not dispersing, top arm adjustment tighten up, and drop the wheel another notch giving the back of the mower about an inch more height than the front. Thanks for the video! When I start shopping for another mower they'll be the first I look at.

Not cheap. Great value. My father sold Bush Hogs from 59-87. Those old 305's and 306's had 90 HP gearbox's with 1/4" plate steel for the side bands and 7 ga tops. The 5 footer was over 800# and the 6 footer was over 1000#. Very heavy duty rated at 3" cutting capacity. Your JBar is a great value that will do anything that you need to do at an affordable price. I have a 10 foot Titan that is built at an attractive price also. It does anything that I need done. Like your Kubota also. Great utility tractor. Thanks for the video. I appreciate it.

I couldn't find any reviews or anything on them, but for my needs and the money I decided that's what I was going with. My local dealer (South Ms.) was sold out and hasn't got anymore in yet. but when he does I will be getting one. THANKS

I called my dealer and put a deposit down, it still took them a month to get it. They're either really popular or the factory is too small! I used it a lot today, and it took some good knocks. Can't even tell it. This is the Premier model, by the way, they make lighter duty ones as well.

Nice mower. It appears to be well braced. You may want to loosen the centerlink. I like for mine to float a little when cutting. It will go over uneven surfaces a little better and will bounce a little when you hit something big.

Looks well built in the video. You'll see a difference with the slip clutch. I used a TSC mower for years. Not well made. Purchased BushHog last Sept. 5ft medium duty. Its just a pleasure to use after mowing with County Line mower. Enjoy your new mower be safe.👍

I bought a little one out of a field from a guy for $100. I bought it, with the intention of tearing it up in some thick brush and saplings. The rear wheel was shot, so I took it off and ran it without one. I put new oil in it and a new pto shaft. 7 years later, I have cleared acres with it and still mow grass around the farm, with the same blades. I bought a new set, but never needed them.

I have a 6' 80's model Modern mower and a 1965 MF 35 Diesel Deluxe if I can ride it down mower will cut it. 3" is no problem for it, when saplings are bent over and wood is under tension one blade hit will take it down with no added stress on mower. I know you don't want to scratch orange paint on your tractor

I was the one that told you that I have about three of those tractors. In a few videos back. Remember me saying when you start mowing with those r4 tires in the grass that it does cut the grass that was pushed down by those big wide tires. then you have to go back two days later and mow where the grass stands back up 😀. You can also tell where they ccut cost.One side of the mower says J-bar the other just says Bar 🤣🤣🤣

Great drone shot! I always have my loader on when brush hogging. Keep the loader about 4 inches off the ground to push down the brush first and if there is a hidden stump or rock, the loader will find it before the brush hog does. Thanks from Esko, Minnesota. Russ

Watch the blades, as they wear down. It will be noticeably harder for it to cut the rubbishy stuff once the wear and tear starts putting nicks and dents in the blade. I rode on a ride-on called a Cox Stockman several years ago, cutting residential grass. it was a pretty good mower, for residential mowing needs. It would just go over small sticks and branches, that's how I know about the nicks and dents thing, even that mower's blades eventually showed signs of wear and tear with the nicks and dents appearing on it.

Might I suggest cutting the large fields with a Zamboni patter so you can make the same size turns throughout the cut. You cut one outside and then cut up through middle slowly working your way over

We're surrounded on 3 sides of our small property by Privet hedges that I used to keep down to around 4ft, but I've not been well enough to tackle them thiis year, so they are now 12ft! Beautiful Sky at the end of the video. Curious to know how many Cats you have? I think I spotted a big fluffy one looking out of the house window in an old video, and of course we all know Black & White "Foreman Cat" that often follows you around! Iirc, if a bolt is unmarked in the US it is supposed to be a grade 3 bolt, anything weaker has to be special order if your using it as a mechanical version of a fusible link. I have borrowed 2 Jbar mowers in the past and have always had good service and have been impressed with them.

I have bought a J-Bar rotary cutter, 4 ft and have been using it in different kind of brush. I am pleasantly surprised on the quality for the money. I have been using equipment like this for almost 50 years and I would recommend this product. I seen a post where someone was doubting the gearbox and I say if the gearbox is maintained and not misused, it will give years of service. In my experience, I have seen top of the line quality equipment fail after a short time over misuse and maintenance. I would guess this cutter might last longer than me if it is used properly. I run a Yanmar 1600 and it runs the cutter well.

I feel you when you buy something you pay for what you get in terms of the total cost and quality of a product. With that said I feel like most brush hogs/brush cutters will perform moving basic grass/brush and will last for awhile by just doing that. I feel where the major difference comes into the picture for bush hogs/brush cutters and comparing the cheaper ones to the top of the line ones is the quality/reliability/durability and the length of life of the product especially if you keep them maintained. The top of the line products will just out perform the cheaper brands/ in every category but you will pay for it up front in total cost. Now nothing will last even the top of the line products if you use it incorrectly and dont maintain it but you can still get a decent bush hog/brush cutter for a decent price compared to getting a top of the line brand.

On your comment about the drive shaft cover, it looks like more of the clutch needs to be covered so you don’t see it spinning, one end of the shaft cover looks bigger than the other…could they be reversed? My drive cover over the clutch end is bigger than the cover over the tractor end. …just wondering..maybe others noticed that too

Hit the stumps with a mixture of 4 oz of glyphosate and 1 oz of imazapyr per gallon of water, they generally won't come back. Good for most tree species, works on still standing trees/brush. Early to mid fall while leaves still on the trees is a good time to apply.

Get a helper with roundup mixed with oil emulsion mixed in water. Spray chinaberry and privet as soon as it is cut down or it will scab over. Do it in the winter with leaves off so sap will not flush out killer. Most will not come up again except for larger base stumps, they will root up on sides in the spring. Spray before 3 feet high and you will get it except for new seeds coming in from near by. Get goats as alternative, they love young sprouts. Good luck!

Put the heavy duty Lucus in your gear box. The reason I say this is in Florida on 100 day ran mine all day no oil in gear box. Forgot to check but the Lucus saved me.

Normally when a bolt head doesn't have any slash markings, it's a grade 1 or grade 2 bolt, low shear strength. I like the hog, I'm looking for one right now but haven't seen that brand around here in eastern NC. After 3 years, is it still holding up good?

some of them dont come with oil. i got mine used (different brand) but they said wasnt used much but because it was used it assumed it had oil, when i decided to check it was empty or damn near it, but its full now.

Just a dumb question, but why not cut off the old mounting plate, and weld in a heavier one? I mean, it's going to just move the weakpoint to the next spot, but it seems workable unless I'm missing something.

Add a sprayer of some type to your equipment inventory and you will find out just how much less time you will spend bush hogging. It will also cut cost considerably over time.

Great video as always. Min. 7:02. You can lay it to rest but, in my life I learned to always, if possible have of everything you use or need two or more. If you can, think about it, that mower, the broken weaker one was with you for a good amount of years and took care of your lawn. Now, what would it happen if, the new one breaks? You will immediately need to stop what you were doing, mowing your lawn, and either fix it soon or later but, what if, you intelligently fix the old faithful one, if is something durable which I hope, take your time, give it a fix and have it ready. Something happened with the new machine or a neighbor needs it loaned? If you loan tools which I don't, I prefer to go do the job and loan a neighbor the job or charge him less than to my far away clients, then, if you loan a lawn mower then loan the cheapest one, not the most expensive one. And you that way keep two weapons to take care of businesses.

You may want to consider removing your draw bar. It looks like it could possibly hit the PTO shaft on un-even ground.

Fair warning this may be a long-winded comment , my apologies. I was going to suggest that you check everything over before you use it because the last cheapest brush hog video I watched the man's blades came off during use! But your machine looks in every way to be far superior to his. As a welder, I think you have found a well-put-together piece of equipment. and the Drone footage put a very large smile on my face because it reminded me of those little electric race car tracks that I had as a child!

that field would be gettin sprayed with Trimec as soon as it was cleared to keep them weeds from coming back up. could be a nice little hay field by the quality of vegetation growth there.

Bolt grading is usually, whatever mark you find on the bolt head, like in yours has 3 marks, is usually graded +2 in hardness = 5 in your case. So, on your bolt has 3 marks, so +2 = Graded bolt = 5 . I believe they all follow the same grading system ?
