Thank you so much! I don’t know anymore where I got the dragonfly from, but I only use copyright free images. I don’t know for sure but I believe it was from Rawpixel. There you find also free public domain images. If you made one yourself, I’d love to see it! I have planned on another slate engraving project soon with the Customizer engraving tool. Have this pen and still trying to figure out which engraving tip to use because it wasn’t engraving like yours does. What am I doing wrong? I wish they had a list of which tip for which material

Hi Marisa! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with the engraving pen. On what materials did you used the pen? Have you tested them all? You might did nothing wrong. Maybe the bits are the problem. In the standard kit there’s only one bit specifically for wood and the rest are diamond bits. Diamond bits you can use for most surfaces, like metals, glass, plastic, also for wood… Only the shapes are different, and which you use depends on what you want to make and it depends on preference. In this video I just tested a few from the ones I got. Slate, on which I engraved the dragonfly, is a very soft stone, so it wasn’t an issue for me. But a few weeks later I tested some other bits on wood and glass and I found out that quite a few of the bits just did nothing at all. Probably the diamond coating on some of the bits was gone. You might consider testing all of the bits and see if you have the same issue with all of them. If the issue are the bits, those aren’t very expensive, a few new bits from a different store might do the trick. But be sure they fit in the shaft of your engraving pen. You also can contact Culiau directly, maybe they can solve your problem. You bought a new product, so you might expect that it works properly. I hope this answer helped you in some way. Dag Jolanda! In principe werkt deze op dezelfde manier. Het voordeel van deze pen ten opzichte van een Dremel of ander merk is dat deze graveerpen draadloos is, dus makkelijk ergens mee naartoe is te nemen en net als een gewone schrijf pen prettig en licht is vast te houden. Het is dan ook een uitstekend dingetje voor details. Het nadeel is dat in tegenstelling tot een bedraadde graveerpen de accu wel een keer op is. Een Dremel of ander merk is wat sterker gebouwd en zal dus grover werk beter aan kunnen. Ook door de vaste breedte van de schacht van de Culiau Engraver moet je goed kijken naar welke bitjes erin passen. Maar er worden wel veel verschillende diamantbitjes bijgeleverd, dus je kunt er wel veelzijdige werkjes mee maken. Je moet vooral denken aan waar je ‘m voor wil gebruiken. Voor kleine DIY projecten is deze geschikt, evenals het aanbrengen van details bij grotere projecten. Voor het grove werk kun je beter een krachtigere tool gebruiken. Ik gebruik het voornamelijk in combinatie met mijn pyrografie en binnenkort wil ik nog een stel leistenen onderzetters ermee graveren. Ik hoop dat dit je vraag beantwoordt. Ik had nog nooit eerder een reactie geplaatst bij een video 😉 Ik doe cursussen edelsmeden en het lijkt me heel mooi om te kunnen graveren op een sieraad van zilver of messing. Met de hand is dat heel erg lastig. Ik had nog niet stil gestaan bij het verschil tussen draadloos en met draad. Dat scheelt inderdaad aanzienlijk. Groetjes, Jolanda.

@@JolandavanderWoude Geeft helemaal niets. Wat leuk zeg, edelsmeden! Graveren op sieraden kun je zeker doen met de graveerpen van Culiau. Maar mocht het je beroep zijn en je bent meerdere uren per dag ermee bezig, en je bent over het algemeen toch op één vaste plek, dan is het wellicht een goed idee om te kijken naar een Dremel met een flex shaft. (Ik geloof dat dat zo heet) dat is een opzetstuk met een slang voor de Dremel waar een wat kleinere pen aan zit zodat je ook compact kunt werken en licht in de hand, maar met het voordeel van een bedrade graveerpen. Het enige nadeel is dus wel dat het niet draadloos is, maar je kunt dan wel langer doorwerken, want de Engraver van Culiau heeft uiteraard een accu die een keer leeg raakt.

Dank je wel! Ik heb de schets van de libelle overgezet met carbonpapier. Dat is gemaakt van een soort inkt/wax en dat blijft heel mooi plakken op steen, glas en andere gladde oppervlakken. Met wat water kun je het naderhand eraf poetsen als er nog wat lijntjes te zien zijn.

Hi Zenkori, thank you so much! I appreciate that. It really is a lot of fun. The grey pad I’m using is sort of a laptop table you can put on your lap. It has a cushion underneath. I believe it’s called Öjulf from Ikea (not sponsored 🤪). I got rid of it half way through, because I just rather held the project in my hand. But it is a handy thing.

Hi Jo! Stainless steel is a very hard and strong material. I think the best option would be a diamond bit. If you have a spare piece of the material, you can test it first.
