Using the full frame mode on the Sony a7r3 seemed like a mistake. The super 35 mode in 4k is sharper and more comparable to the crop factor of the other two cameras because it does a oversampled readout of that entire section of the sensor rather than pixel binning.

The difference in 4K external recording is caused by incorrect level mapping in Atomos products, they all expect video range signal input but all DSLR/mirrorless cameras output full range (0-255 vs 16-235).

Thats not a bad idea at all. As boring as charts are.. they do show sharpness differences much better. Next time I will use a chart. Carl
@StephenVStone6 жыл бұрын
Still camera shots of still subjects with limited DOF are of very little value in a sharpness test as it fails to test codec, bitrates and overall sensor/codec performance under stress. A pain or zoom over a complex detailed landscape with everything in perfect focus is a far better test - that's where the EOS R has looked weak in tests. Your sharpness is only revealing a small part - sensor in basically still mode. Charts are slightly better because of the everything in focus but luminance and chrominance simplicity means codec stress is not factor either. You basically need a shot that is going to peak the bitrate every frame to see any differences of value to real world shooting.
@SportFlow6 жыл бұрын
@@StephenVStone you're completely right. Static shots perform well in every camera. You should shot smoke, rain, moving water, etc to stress the codec and really see the differences.

Agree about the sharpness test. I kinda dislike sharpeness tests using charts, but if you had something like fabric or some other more real-world test would be beneficial. That bush doesn't cut it. I have always found Canon to be soft but that's typically a positive when shooting faces since it hides blemishes. However, some of us use video cameras to film wildlife/nature and in most cases sharpness is a positive feature and I always like to see what cameras have to offer with a bird's feather detail, etc.

We all pro's know that canon don't have good sharpness out of the box. It is the same case with the canon 80d...you have to increase sharpness in post to have a really good image quality. What Canon R offer right now, no other camera offer...the posibility to use ff lanses and also crop lanses at a very very good image quality. Each camera has his twiks...but with the canon, if you know how to handel it...you will get excelent performance. I am not a canon fun. I shoot with all brands...but with the canon it is very easy to work in post...( both stills and video ) and also in the field...best intuitive and easy camera to use. All brands are very good these days...the only problem is that we start to think to much...and feel to little.... These machines helps us to create what we want after a lot of work...machines don't see...or feel...machines just need to be driven. It is just me or the main problem these days is ' The Drivers ??? ' Great video, great comparrison. Kind of open your eyes and drive !!!

Amazing. Given the fact that neither the C200 nor the EOS-R have an IBIS, the advantage of the C200 basically comes down to internal ND and XLR plus a little bit more of DR (but obviousely not so much to worry about). Now which one to take for a low budget documentary e.g. in Africa? The C200 pops with onboard XLR and the EOS-R with the additional photo capability. If you will need to take photos anyway, a rigged EOS-R with audio and variable ND could be the overall better choice since its only one piece of gear to carry around. If the aquisition format must be 10 bit than it would be the EOS-R anyway) .

Ergonomics? Size? err, cost? BobUK
@ProAVTV6 жыл бұрын
The C200 is a very very different camera. Raw, XLR + audio controls on camera, physical buttons designed for video use, internal ND filter wheel, larger batteries etc. For low budget travel documentaries though the EOS R might well be the better choice though due to its size, cost and flexibility. Plus of course the stills side of the camera. Carl
@brainpope66606 жыл бұрын
@@bobuk5722 In ergonomics the C200 is better hands down. But IF you have to take photos for promos, then the ergonomics are worse - you will need to carry around two devices which also will take more space. Cost? For me the EOS-R is a camera to own, the C200 a camera to rent. So on a three weeks trip the EOS-R will be cheaper. If you own the C200 things may change of course. Big question now is, if broadcasters will accept the EOS-R with external 10-bit recording. If not, then the camera of choice will be the C200 or even the C300 Mark II as usual).

Because it's Canon Log 3. You have to adjust in post - he even mention in the video. The original Canon Log does a fair better color rendition, but lacks in dynamic range. The C200 with the original Canon Log would look a lot similar with the shot from the EOS R in this regard.
