When the paint is really flaky like that, the fastest thing i've found for relatively flat surfaces is a carbide scraper. takes it off pretty quick, then you can go back and get the rest with a wire cup on a grinder or whatever. Sand blasting is the best for little nooks and crannies and awkwardly shaped areas.

If he had a professional sand blasting setup with 100 gallon tank and 25cfm 3 stage pump, it wouldn't matter the blaster would take off the flakes like butter. But this spot blaster on a residential compressor is going to take a lot longer

Just a thought power wash first Then use a tarp to catch the media and obliviously proper PPE The unit is too small for that size machine but for spot cleaning it will work well.

It definitely works. You demonstrated that very well for showing it with no prep work. For what you paid for it to maybe touch up a trailer that got the paint scratched off to repaint that spot or hit a spot in an engine bay a grinder won't reach to ground a wire, this will be perfect for you.

It looks like it doesn't do much of a big area but we'll work nice in touching up small areas hard to reach that the sander or wire wheel can't get to.

The black bag is medium. Most of the reviews have said it's best with fine grit, red bag. I bought it for trailer rims, too hard to get the tightbspots with a grinder

The paper clip trick and playground sand is the way to go. I've used this exact machine on several occasions. Forgive the analogy, but if you take a paperclip and make it into your best imitation of an IUD, and get that in the t valve on the base, you can use dirt cheap playground sand and get a much better, faster result

I don't know if you have a gravel driveway anywhere, but cold slag was used to gravel them for about 40 years everywhere around here and I'm right on the sound. My old place across the street had the driveway about 1/3 of a mile that was in poor shape when I bought the place. I put down 8 yd of 5/8 but I had it tilled into the slag before I crowned and compacted it. I'm normally pretty environmentally minded, but that place was in deep rainforest. If I had used gravel alone, it would take 10 yd to the year and 100 hours of Labor. But I guess we are saving the world by shipping it to China on giant diesel powered tankers?

Nothing came out of mine either. Then I discovered the nozzle inside the gun was assembled backwards. The small hole in the internal nozzle needs to go forward right over the media input. It's the small hole that creates the necessary vacuum. My 4 gallon, 2.6 scfm @ 90 psi, 2 HP Campbell Hausfeld compressor now has no problem pulling the media up ( Harbor Freight 80 grit glass beads ).

It's all about shifting your attitude. I'm sure there's some place in your town where ladies pay $50 a pop for the same thing, they just call it exfoliation, haha. Like you know that Himalayan sea salt that is pink and sells for 30 x of normal salt? So is a base element on the periodic chart, it's not possible for it to taste different. People are happily paying 30 x for dirty Rusty salt, haha

I started with play sand in medium. At $6 per bag. Now it comes damp and will not drop into the air line. So in a big roasting pan and the oven at 250 for one hour Also I had to shift it out because small pebbles block the gun. Once that was done it worked great. A bag of medium is $40 and sand was $6. A little labor was fine by me. I

I would recommend actually that nobody by this thing I just bought mine it doesn't really work like you would think it works mine actually doesn't spray shit out of it at all and Harbor Freight will not return the walnuts that I bought or this piece of shit media blaster it makes absolutely no vacuum suction for you can pull the trigger on that gun and it'll blow 200 PSI write out the gun I even filled the hose up with the Walnut shells that they recommended for the damn thing and it's still don't work what a waste of $80
