Testing the Jim Venetos golf swing on the driving range. Will the Jim Venetos swing help me get better? And will I manage to do what he does... Find out in this video, as I do my best to test the JVGA swing after a bad round of golf with my own swing.
Everything Jim explaines about the physics and concept of his unique swing makes sense to me, it just sounds logical, but since I am so used to playing "my way" it is hard to forget it all, and start something new. But the Jim Venetos swing is very intriguing and interesting, so I had to test it.
What do you guys think of my test?

Looks like a modified version of Stack N Tilt. The S&T swing is an easier way to stay centered. I use it on all three-quarter shots from 8I down

I think that JV swing is more natural than S&T swing. S&T puts more weight on lead side but bent too much from the hip and feels a little bit stuck and painful. JV swing also put more weight on lead side but pivot shoulder and hip to close position. I use single plane plus JV's pre set up and have a lot of solid strike than conventional swing.

Hi! I appreciate you trying to implement my system. You aren’t pivoting closed enough in the set up which is why the majority of your shots are going left. You’ll need to be about 65% more closed than you were in your video and then your best shot will be more common.

I fully committed to his method. I’m playing the best golf of my life. My biggest challenge: alignment! Basically if your too closed with stance and shoulders you will hook more. My ball striking is pure! My two biggest improvements are when I do two things. Try for absolute stillness and achieve soft, smooth tempo, when I do that I have ridiculous power. Made my first eagle on a par 4 last Friday. Played three holes today after a range session and was two under. Lipped putt and would have been three under. I’ve never made three birdies in a row ! Commit to this man it’s a major game changer

So cool that you have committed to the swing! Did you take his classes? It is so counter intuitive that stillness will give you more power, but I see that it does that for people. So that is really cool!
@Somefatdude
@Somefatdude Жыл бұрын
@@GolfDuff it doesn’t give you more power. It only does so if you struggle to hit the ball solid with a normal swing (because it is easier to hit a ball while not moving). That doesn’t mean it gives you more power, nor does it mean that this method is a better method.

I"m on and off with the JV swing. Actually hit over 50,000 balls in a year doing it on a Topgolf plan. I got it to work nicely but it feels nuts. Why? Because the golf club is "thrown", as everybody knows, and there is no throwing of anything where you don't go to the back foot with a shift. Would you throw a baseball or football by having 90% of your weight on the front foot? It would go nowhere. It's just not natural. I watched a video of Will Willcox (My Swing Evolution - greatest ballstrikers) and the guy is 40 degrees open with his whole body. I've been fooling with this open stance (not 40 degrees!) and the feeling of freedom through the ball is exactly what you can't get with JV. I always feel "blocked" coming through the ball with JV. Couples, Trevino, Bubba, even Nicklaus early on used the open stance. The problem is the club still has to be shallowed and it seems harder to do and the right side wants to pulverize the ball. So now I'm caught in between, in no-mans-land, jumping between 10 different swing methods like The Golf Test Dummy did in his videos on YT. Pull from the left side ( RotarySwing with Chuck Quinton, Clay Ballard...) or Hammer with the right hand (Marcus Edblad, Tom Saguto)? Open stance, square, closed? After years of experimentation I am lost. Used to shoot high 70s when younger but now, with these "instructional" videos, I don't know what planet I'm on. After years of "shallowing" drills they now are teaching OTT from the inside. At this point I'm thinking spark a blunt in the car before teeing off and cap it off with a few beers stashed in the bag during the round and see what happens.

Keeping "Still" and keeping shoulders closed are my challenges. I recommend joining his Academy which includes video reviews of your swing. Btw... His putting stroke has also significantly improved my game. IMHO. his swing works and progression doesn't take long if you listen to his feedback. I personally started his online course about 2 weeks ago. While I haven't been able to replicate my swing wit consistency yet, I have had some fantastic shots. I normally hit my driver about 230-240 with roll out. Played a round yesterday and cranked a 3-wood rollout to 260, then I proceeded to shank the following 8 iron directly into the woods. The power is there when done correctly.

During covid lock down while bored out of my mind, I came to this "epiphany" of a swing on my own by using an random 9 iron found in my garage . I played a few times in my 20s, as I'm not very good, but just swinging the club with my lead arm straight and making contact with the ball, I realized the concept of being still with one arm and shifting weight to the left. Later, I naturally set up with sort of a pivot and a two handed swing that does not destroy my back at age 50. Now I can't enough of these videos.

I've switched over to his swing this past month and dropped from an 8 to a 5 HCP. It's the real deal. Here's my 2 cents: your weight isn't far enough on your front foot and your shoulders are opening too much through contact IMO. The swing path should follow, more or less, the shoulder line through the swing, which should be closed to target.

Been using it about 2-3 years. Seen dozens of hours of his videos. My friends think I’m nuts. I’ve had my best score (81) with it but not consistent. Biggest issue is I have a terrible book - especially on irons. His more recent videos have more swings less talking and from 2 different angles which helps. I’m committed though. I wish I could have him teach me in person. I think I have my ball too far back in stance.

I only came across Jim today as I struggled a lot and watched some videos. I remember a while ago I had a little more success with effortless shots with a setup like that, except it wasn’t pivoted as far as in Jim’s videos. I tried his setup today and initially was still trying to swing to fast and relaxed a bit more and let the club do the work. The results were amazing. I hit about 80 balls with 9/8/7/5, 4h/3w/driver. Every shot was a draw!! And with less clubhead speed and also a bit less ball speed, all shots went farther than I’m used to. I used my launch monitor and videos myself and was amazed with the results and the consistency. Looking back at the video and yours it looks like both you and me are not pivoting our trail foot out enough and not closing the shoulders far enough in comparison to Jim’s setup. In his videos it looks to me as if he is as much as 45 degrees in relation to the target.

I've been practising Jim's swing at teh range (only once a week) for the past 3 weeks and took it to the course last weekend. My score wasn't the greatest (104), but I put that down to having to play a couple of holes with a badly pinched sciatic nerve, which I did during a T shot. Once the nerve got released and I was able to move and swing with ease, my ball striking was pretty awesome, although I was still moving around abit as many of teh shots went either to the right or a pull shot. I also need to close my stance more and get it closer to the 45* angle Jim talks about. I also need to adjust my ball position more to teh center of my stance and also narrow my stance. In all of Jim's videos he looks as thoug his stance (regardless of teh club he is using) is no more than hip distance apart or narrower. Will be persevering with Jim's swing as I just want to be able to start nad play decent golf again. I used to be an 8 handicap arund 12 years ago, but these days struggle to break 100.

Over the last 7 years, I've gone out to the golf course with the Venetos swing probably ten times. My goal is always to break 80, which I do about 1/4 times or so as a 7 handicapper. The Venetos system, is probably 8/10 breaking 80. I don't use it more often, because I watch other videos, other instructors, and I get wrapped up in thinking I can get more distance this way or that way. Hi, been with JVG swing off and on for 12 years been a member for years, it is as advertised, pivot, be still and you can really hit great shots. HOWEVER you cannot kid yourself. You either do it right or as any other swing method it will not work. I came back to it recently and was rewarded with good to great shots and just shot an 82 from the blue tees. Yellow are the back ones at my club, so about 6486 yds. Tend to hit soft draws to straight shot. Why do not like to pivot too shut…..just my preference. But again it is as advertised.

I have watched his videos. Honestly I’m skeptical. Several unique swings being professed out there. Many I’ve tried. The thing about Jim that I’ve noticed is you rarely see him hitting driver. Hmmmmm!
@GolfDuff
@GolfDuff Жыл бұрын
I have seen a video of his today actually, where he hits the driver, and the ball seem to fly perfectly in a draw. What he is saying about his swing just makes sense to me, even though I am not exactly qualified to tell anyone that his swing works. Because as Jim said in one of the comments here, I am not doing his swing in my video😄 This video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJfVgKJ3bZ2dhJo

It doesn't look like jv's set up to me, not enough pivot and your a bit giddy on your feet but if your interpretation of his set up works for you then happy days If you want height try with your weight on back foot and keep it there 👍

I totally agree with you... I am not even close to doing the Venetos swing. I have lot of work to do on my swing, so the search continues. Do you play with the JV swing?

@@GolfDuff I haven't tried it yet, I'm working on Moe's single plane swing for the last two years or so and find it a game changer on the tee box, done away with the slicing completely not confident with the irons so I will definitely try venetos set up with the irons for consistency, played a lot of pitch and putt for years and always put the body weight on the back foot with the ball forward in a wide stance, result super height small bit of spin on landing very confident and aggressive with the sand wedge because I know how much to give in back swing for the distance to pin so I suppose because that was the set up I used for years that it made the single plane easier for me to adapt to because I was always inclined to leave the back foot on the ground ( frozen), the head never moved at least that's what it felt like to me I knew where the ball was instantly after the strike without trying to look, I listened to the ball landing , always stayed focused on the writing on the ball and picked it up on the down swing never restricted the follow through, never done anything with my wrists deliberately so the habits were already there for the single plane swing to work for me.

Committ more of your stance on your left since you are still pivoting and shifting weight. I have tried the swing, and it’s very efficient and compact

A major key to Jim Venetos swing is to close your stance and shoulders. You didn't do that.

Sorry this is nothing like the Jim Venetos swing. You are pivoting, then you go back to a traditional stance prior to hitting. Nothing like the swing at all! I have done the course and have a complete understanding of how the swing works. I don't believe you should be posting videos claiming this is his technique when it is nothing like it as it's an insult to Jim's method.
