I had been closing my front side with 70% of my weight on my front side as instructed. I could not hit a draw always a fade. I saw s video of Jim's that explained that the back shoulder needs to stay back. Now I totally get the swing! I was doing everything correct except using a traditional shoulder turn, which does not work for this swing. Love this method!!

Wasted 32 years playing traditional golf, came across Jim Venetos videos by accident when i was on holidays in Bali. I cannot believe just how much i have improved my ball striking and no longer need to tee off on the left side of teeing off area to allow for my wild slice. To think of all the money i have spent of golf training aids, golf lessons, hours watching KZbin videos, buying latest this and the latest that and where did it get me. It took me one video to get me hooked on this way of playing golf, so simple and less strenuous on the body. Thanks Jim for changing the way i look and play golf today. Only started this new swing method late February 2020 progress has been rapid.

2 years ago I started playing golf after playing soccer my whole life. I was a big time hack. Watched this video, did maybe 5 or 6 range sessions just practicing this and went from a 100+ golfer to a consistent 80s. Seriously is shocking how well this works, all I have to dial in is the distance. He is not lying when he says I am hitting shots that are well above my ability solely because I’m simplifying the swing, eliminating all the other ‘swing thoughts’ that I had in the past. Thank you for making this difficult sport simple.

Staying over the ball and letting the arms say bye bye while your body stays put is what I think about on the take away. Despite the weight being more on the lead side does not mean I am not getting a weight shift because I do feel the weight shift to the inside of the trail leg or back leg. The way this is explained in the video to me reinforces the mechanics and thoughts required not to sway outside of the back leg swaying is a power leak and means inconsistency and a lot of correction on the way down. Great video and well explained

amazing! Saw this video last night and was so excited had to go to the range to try it out. I think I got half of it, most shots we're much lower than my usual shots. Best one though is that after 2 hours, I had no pain at all. And my driver distance was improved with narrower dispersal. I'm still a little confused with the setup but so far so good. Thank you! BTW, you talk and sound like Anthony Bourdain! Cool!

I have to comment. I don't know why this particular video showed up in my feed, but I have to comment. I will be 49 in December, and was an athlete most of my life. Most sports came easy to me. I could just watch something being done, and go do it with success. I played wome golf when I was in my teens and could it the ball very far. Then I tried taking up the sport in my late 20s with little success. I sliced it like crazy. I stopped playing because of that. I watched a couple of videos about grip, and it helped alot. I'm saying all of this because when I fixed my grip, my body took over. I naturally starting doing what you are saying without thinking about it. My body is working together, and I'm hitting starter and more accurate shouts than I did when I was 27. I played a round last week and hit multiple drives on par 4 and 5s from 250 to 280. I'll take that all day.

I concur. I learnt how to hit the ball consistently from 130 yards out by watching Trevino. I noticed the way he put his weight on the left side and orientated his body towards the target. That swing thought has always worked for me too. It's much better than standing there with a 50/50 weight distribution and in 'no man's land'. Too much can go wrong.

Been fooling around with the concept for a while because it just made sense, but never really committed to it. Decided two weeks ago to “stay still” and give it a real chance. Incredible results. First two rounds 74/69. No fat shots. Contact in the middle of the club face with shots on line. Never going back to the “traditional” swing. And oh yes, was 80 in June.

I used it for the latter half of 2020 and the 1st half of 2021. Never hit irons better in my life. Problem was I could not hit the driver to save my life. I started to shift my weight on the driver and told Jim this in one of his videos and his reply was I must not be doing the swing right and suggested signing up for his school) instead of providing any tips, I got mad and quit the swing altogether. Was back to hitting the driver well with a traditional swing but the irons were woefully erratic. I am in the process of transitioning back to Jim's swing but, while using the setup for the driver, I am shifting my weight. Seems to be the best of both worlds. Afterall, driver and irons are two different swings in spite of his claims. That said, guy is a genius, if a somewhat mercurial one.

@@jonburrows8602 I had to chuckle a little that you got mad that Jim, probably one of, if not the most, generous golf coach on you tube, suggested you join his school (and support his livelihood, and pay for the value you get) rather than he coach you for free, but I guess that is the way of the current world. Could I cheekily suggest you ask the local golf pro for 20 minutes of free consultation and note the response? But I do understand a bit. Jim puts out there a radically different method. Some people think the onus is on him to "prove" it to the internet world, and especially the "what about the driver/ what about the power crew" - which is extremely unfair. Essentially Jim's whole system is available for free on the net. No BS about here is one "secret" and "2 steps of my 35 step patented, wrist cocking, knee twisting, weight shifting, arm pit squeezing swing process to get you to stop slicing in just 10 hits!!". However if you want individual diagnosis tuition you have to fork over less than $US50 a month, enabling multiple opportunities for feedback. What's a golf pro charge for one lesson in the US - $60-$100? More? I was a member of his academy a couple of years ago (even though being from Australia the cost (USD/AUD) is a little more relative to things but still good value). Lost 10-12 strokes off my handicap. But I didn't even use the academy enough. I devoured the content, but didn't interact with Jim enough (or at all) - entirely my fault and being time poor - I have been meaning to join up again. I do however (try to) use his method. I keep making the mistake of thinking that I know what I am doing wrong and what Jim would tell me when it doesn't work - NOT staying still! But knowing what is wrong and even knowing the correct swing is no substitute for a coach, especially one of Jim's calibre. I thank you kind sir, your post has prompted me to join up again!
@PaulinOz1
@PaulinOz1 2 жыл бұрын
And specifically on the driver, although Jim's swing is so much easier to pick up on irons, especially short irons, ironically it is the driver that his swing has helped me with the most - when I get it right. The problem is our own brains (and habits). With driver in hand, we cannot help but think we need to "hit the ball" smash it 250-260m (what's that ~275 - 290 in old money). Also old habits die hard. Using Jim's setup (which might appear to be pointing right for RH), but then transferring weight and worse, opening up the shoulders is a recipe for disaster - goodbye ball. However if I think to myself , "I just want to stroke this down the middle 180m" and then I actually STAY STILL and let the club take the long shallow path home to contact and beyond then I can easily get it to roll out to 230 - 250m. (ok to crack 250m I need wind assistance, but I am very short hitter anyway). Just try half and 3/4 swings at the range - dead still with body until contact. Even start with 1/4 swings and try to hold still after contact to get the feel. People get caught up on the pedantics around Jim's swing. Sure there is a shifting of weight - but you just don't do it consciously . If the club ends up on the left of body in the end of the swing, and you are standing on your left leg with your right leg up on its toe with zero weight on it, then the laws of nature tell you that there is now more weight on the left side (say 100%), than there was at the beginning (even if it was 90%). But don't even think about that, that is an effect! Learn Jim's setup (see previous comment). Set your weight 60-70-80-90% (the most you feel comfortable with) on your left side in the setup, focus on staying still until just after contact (achieve that to a lesser or greater extent - true stillness is very hard, but the focus on it is achievable) and then whatever happens to your weight (and the club) after that, will happen (and not matter much anyway). Just DON'T try to load up weight on your right and then transfer it to your left. Think about this. If a club head is moving (SWINGING) between 110kmh - 145kmh (80mph - 90mph - for normal mortals) and you shift your weight through, lets be generous and say you athletically move (or even pivot) 30cm or 1 ft in the 1 second of the swing (again generously fast swing time), then you are adding 1kmh or 0.7mph to the speed of club. Not much reward for an enormous amount of variables and increased chance of stuffing up. Sure Bryson and the long drivers (like Kyle B) use weight shift. But they are trying to generate rather abnormal head speeds - but still 99% of their speed is in the swing not the weight transfer. And I reckon it is almost a mental trigger for them for the swing and using ground force to help the upper body initiate the swing. But look at Kyle's 8 irons (200yds) in this video his weight at impact is on the left, his shoulders are closed - kzbin.infoUgkx9_oRCE26kS0m7sfXutKowDvKyRi6SJTr It's Jim setup. He has practised getting back to it as only a pro athlete can - over and over and over again. (note: Kyle and Bryson's driver swing are another world, but I reckon we are not really looking for that). I don't know what speed you can get without shift (guessing Jim is probably 115mph+) but when you get to that, then maybe worry about adding the weight shift (or not). Anyway Jon - ignore my drivel and get it straight from Jim - he knows what he is talking about. Stay still friends :-)

Been a high 80, low ninety player for years - joined Jim's Academy - 2 under 80 rounds last year and one scratch round 5 birdies, 5 bogies. Its different, feels a bit odd at first but that disappears when you're striping the fairway & bonus very easy on your back.

Great thoughts, especially the point about keeping still and focusing on your right side turning. That makes perfect sense and is important since traditional golf swings involve some swaying and rely on a lot of timing for consistent ball striking. The part I’m not sure about is what looks like the leaning onto the right side at address. Why is it I don’t see pros doing this?
@timmyboy2495

I think it’s because the pros have mastered the tempo part and are on another level that the common man can’t achieve with their weight shifting and angle of attack on the ball.

Been a member for a few months and have been practicing in a simulator. I am finally able to hit outside at the range. It's nice to see the actual ball flight, which is a draw! On the backswing and downswing, am I just using my left arm and hand to move the club, and the right side is supportive? More grip pressure in left hand than the right?
@jimvenetosgolf
@jimvenetosgolf 4 жыл бұрын
As you are learning in the school, the movements of the swing are taken care of by your set up and it is CRUCIAL that you ignore your hands and arms so that they can do what the set up intends for them. It is also crucial that you just focus on keeping your weight still during the swing so, if you focus on your arms or hands, then you can't focus on keeping your weight still. Try to be a silent witness to stillness and trust that your movements in the swing are controlled by your set up...then those draws will be consistent, powerful and easy to produce.

To keep my left shoulder still at it's initial position throughout the swing, helped me more as the single swing thought than keeping my weight on my left foot, for your information. Thanks millions for your efforts anyway 🙏❤

Great to hear. They are one and the same. In order to keep your shoulder still, you have to keep your weight still.

Jim Venetos, just come across your principles in the last week of closing the shoulders for irons. It seems very good and I cannot wait for the golf courses/driving ranges to open for me to have a go. Do you have a video which talks about the driver as that should be an upward hit on the ball?

Staying over the ball and letting the arms say bye bye while your body stays put is what I think about on the take away. Despite the weight being more on the lead side does not mean I am not getting a weight shift because I do feel the weight shift to the inside of the trail leg or back leg. The way this is explained in the video to me reinforces the mechanics and thoughts required not to sway outside of the back leg swaying is a power leak and means inconsistency and a lot of correction on the way down. Great video and well explained

Hi Jim, I set up with cicra 70% on the left but I cant hit the ball with consistency & power without bending my left knee on the back swing - any steer from you to help me remain still would be great - Thanks Simon UK

One of your videos shows up on my feed and l click on it and l am glad l did. Nobody had addressed the fact that we have two shoulder sockets as you did and they bury that within the swing they are teaching. l am not flexible l mean l can move but not like how they teach us to move l am an old fart and not going to be on tv but just wanna enjoy the game. Thank you for the instructions! BTW what were those two objects that flew by you at about 1:32 second, just wondering because they were fast.

Hi Jim, I notice that you use an interlocking grip. I've used that grip before & it seems that the right hand takes over the swng. I started using the Vardon grip with your swing instruction. I seem to lead better with the left side, but I think I lose some power. I've also tried the 10 finger grip, but that takes over the right side even more.
@jimvenetosgolf
@jimvenetosgolf 4 жыл бұрын
Dick Dembroski not for me, how the hands connect is not related to interlocking, overlapping or 10 finger...it is related to what hand is dominant and which is supportive. Sign up for my school and you’ll understand this concept quickly. jimvenetosgolfacademy.com

Would you recommend playing one length clubs with this action or would it be more difficult. Thank you.
@jimvenetosgolf
@jimvenetosgolf 4 жыл бұрын
You can play any clubs with this action...one of the benefits of the system I teach. Personally, I think single length clubs are very limiting and a fad. Would you rather have one tool in your tool box or a tool box full of tools? A Leatherman is useful but you won't see a contractor showing up to build a house with just a Leatherman.
@Ronald-vz6pl
@Ronald-vz6pl 4 жыл бұрын
To bad you have that opinion. Most of the lenght difference in irons comes from loft, there is certainly merit in the concept. Staying still and same distance from ball, same posture, fore sure works! And you can still have like a lob or sw regular length.
@jimvenetosgolf
@jimvenetosgolf 4 жыл бұрын
Ronald Every 1/2 in club length equates to a significant increase in club head speed but like I said...you can play any length clubs you want with this swing.

Genuine question, in all the other sports mentioned the dominant side was the right side (for right handed people) so why are we all golfing with a left side dominant swing? Would we not benefit from switching so the right arm is dominant? (would this be more natural in quieting down the supporting side?) Also would this not help us hit further and more accurately?
@jimvenetosgolf
@jimvenetosgolf 4 жыл бұрын
Chris Williams It’s true, my clubs should be called left handed clubs but switching sides isn’t as easy as your questions may imply if you’ve already built a familiarity with the other side of the ball. I wouldn’t be concerned about it though, I believe we are all ambidextrous and can adapt quite fine when you apply the system I teach(think about baseball, throw w one hand, catch w the other). But, to your point...there are many pros that have a dominant lead side, Phil comes to mind, and, the glove is on the lead hand, and, too much trail hand has always been an issue in the swing. This isn’t the first time humans have made an error like you speak of...we once thought the world was flat and smoking cigarettes was healthy.

@@jimvenetosgolf really interesting take on it, I'd just never thought of it this way at all before hearing you speak so logically about the lead shoulder being the centre of a good swing. I dont think I could switch at this point anyway just wondered if we should be pointing new kids more towards a previously considered 'left' handed swing. I'm an average player (playing off 10) but still looking to find a route to hitting long irons or hybrids solid. I can drive, and anything sub 150yards I'm comfortable, those long second shots kill my game. I'm often told my swing speed is too slow and that's the issue, I'm trying your technique with good results in terms of contact with 7iron and down. Still the longer shots elude me, poor height, poor distance, poor consistency. Really frustrating. Thanks for replying jim 👍
