Large stones want stop the vegetation from growing I think your cutter is a good plan . Next best thing is a cutter on a excavator .

Yes, sickle mower in my opinion would be the best for around a pond. The new ones however seem to be VERY pricey. I started looking into getting one around 4 years ago. All I could find were back ordered. Then they were selling in the low 3000 range. Now they are near 5000. So, I still trim my pond with a weed eater. Only been doing it 31 years.

I like very low or no maintenance so I’d consider putting down rocks, similar to what you did in the Coy Pond and just keep the little grass that might come up killed, especially in the area that you had to widen.

It looks like it was awkward to use a first, so I’d just tell people you were smoothing out the rough areas 😜 I’ve never seen one on a skid steer so it was interesting. Nicely done.

Howdy Brock! Looks like the bank expansion is holding up great! The sod looks to have gotten well established. Looking good! Thanks for sharing 🤠

Look up I&J manufacturing in PA. They make the best sickle bar mower I’ve ever used. I bought an 8’-6” cutter with hydraulic lower and lift to cut our 12 acre lake banks on a hunting property. It only takes about an hour to cut the entire lake bank. This unit will cut from 90 degrees up all the way to 70 degrees below horizontal down. It’s one hell of a hay cutter too. Good news it that it weighs almost nothing. Be careful on those edges brother! 🔥🔥👍👍

That dam project you did last year looks good 🤪. A sickle bar excels for this job, but might be hard to justify given all of your other cutting machine options. Good luck 👍.

In all honesty, the best equipment for this would be a Ventrac with its boom mower. Of course that attachment by itself is around $15k! Plus the cost of buying that tractor.

Heya Brock, This is an issue I've been dealing with on our property as well. We excavated an old slough and turned it into a dugout decades ago but the water level never gets to within 18-20 feet from the top (even though its close to 30 deep in spots) Its a real pain to keep the weeds down on those angled banks, none of the machines will touch it and the weeds get too thick stemmed for the weed eater to touch it. I've been using the Kombisystem powerhead with the 20 inch angled hedge trimmer attachment and doing it that way. What has your experience been with that Dam-It product you used? Been thinking about trying that and pumping some more water in, but concerned that it may cause me more issues than good as the whole pond is spring fed and I don't want to interfere with that if the product all settles on the bottom.

I did not actually use the damnit product I used Benseal bentonite clay, which is a much cheaper option. I also mentioned that if my pond continued to leak, I was going to use the dammit product. Piney grove, Homestead and hometown acres are two channels that I know have used that product. They both initially thought it helped, but they both are still dealing with pond leaks. Hometown Acres says that his pond quit leaking through the damn but the bottom is not sealed mine quit leaking, but I also physically repaired it with that mini excavator

I just bought a skid steer sickle mower that would work probably quite well for you. It’s 6 feet I don’t know if it would be long enough to go down all your bank or not. It will angle up at 90° in your angle down I’m assuming about 60° I just tried it quickly and I haven’t had a good chance to try it yet but it seems to work OK good luck

Yep, sickle bar mower would be your best option, except they are way too expensive for what they are.
