Great vid as usual! More interested in the ride than the Karoo 2; I don't use Strava, I wear long finger gloves, and the super colorful touch screen really doesn't do much for me. I mean, it's a nice piece of tech...but a bit much in my opinion. Plus, run some Vittoria Rubino Endurance for these adventure rides (or something comparable). They are bombproof for long adventure rides; they do roll a hair slow, but they remove 1 huge element of uncertainty on these rides. Keep up the great work, love your account!

I think we'll make a comparison video once the production version of the Karoo 2 is out. But for now I think my advice would be: Roam for battery life, Karoo 2 for pretty much everything else.

I use a gopro mount with Lezyne lights, that come with the same mounting system. Definitely the cleanest option out there 👌🏻

Do you have to plan the route for the karoo to show the strava segments? I mean, if I have my strava account sync to the karoo, I I just start riding without selecting a specific route, does the segment get displayed on the karoo? Thank you so much!!!

Yup, it shows the segments even if your not on a route!

Hey Martijn, did you charge the Karoo mid ride or put it into battery saver mode at all? Just got one myself and am curious about the detail there on a longer 10 hour ride. Definitely loving your videos. Need to get back out to Europe someday to check out those roads.

Heyo, I didnt charge it, but had it on battery saving mode, then it lasts a lot longer. So far I've gotten about 10hrs normal use out of it on our longer rides, so I think it's pretty accurate. And for the longer rides I bring a USB-C powerbank, which charges the device pretty fast.

Can it now also do 'on-the-fly' map downloading? I think the Karoo had that in the beginning if you had a SIM in, but now you always need to download the maps beforehand.

I didnt try it with a sim, but when I connect it to my phone hotspot it can download maps

K2 will be working same K1, meaning you can download a map upfront (WiFi) or when abroad and not downloaded you can do it with sim, if installed or using your phone as hotspot.

Do you really think a 7 hrs ride with navi and 11% battery left is ok? I had the Karoo 1, switched to Garmin 830 and now bought the Karoo2 again, user interface is so much better with the karoo but comes with limitations in how far you can ride. Many events keep you in the saddle 8-10 hrs it a shame if you need to carry a power bank for those rides. I’m hoping Karoo has this fixed before shipping, since it was also a topic on the first one.

I agree, more battery life would definitely be better. But for these long rides i usually bring a power bank anyway, so dont really mind charging it. And 98% of my rides are less than 8 hours anyway 🤷🏼‍♂️
