Appreciate this video is now a couple of years old. Like you I chose the Ezone 98 two years ago and have played with it solid for the last 2 years until about 6 weeks ago. I did find with the Ezone 98 that I hit long at times and just wanted a bit more controlled power. So I tried the Yonex Percept 100 and I have to say I am loving it. It has a 16 x 19 string pattern so you get the spin needed, but I just find it all more controlled, easier to hit with and easier to hit angles and place serves etc. Its my first 100 inch racket so I was worried it was almost a step backwards, however I really cant see me ever going back to the Ezone 98 now. Might be worth you trying the Percept 100 given your need to focus on your clients rather than your actual strokes at times!

The Ezone 98 maneuverability basically comes from the balance point being closer to the handle than it is in the 100. You can make the 100 more maneuverable by adding the extra 5 grams of weight to the handle and it swings similarly after that.

the new ezone 98 is nice in my opinion. I play for many years wit the blade 18x20 (v4, v5, v6, v7) but in 2021 made the switch to the yonex vcore 95, tested both de 2018 and the 2021... and keep the 2018, because its noticeable more flexible, the 2021 bigger beam and stiffens didn't like

I love the sound! I've once heard this opinion - "I prefer a higher static weight ( Around 350 to 360g) with a lower SW between 320 and 330 strung. I have always found this to be safer for the elbow and shoulder than using a lighter static weight with a high SW" But overall a tennis racquet is a very personal choice. I play with old Yonex RDiS 100 (600 head size and 350 g strung, 67 flex, SW about 323 g). I have never had elbow, shoulder or wrist problems, - the racquet is great and I am only a club lever player, my technique is far from perfect (did not learn tennis as a kid). I would stick with this frame, but it is from 2009 and the grommets became weak - so I am looking for a new racquet - preferably Yonex. I have heard - Vcore is the successor of the RDiS line, but not sure. I really enjoy your videos, you "bought" me with this one: do not try to imitate a prof. forehand backswing - we all have our specific and one and only style.

Hello Meike, First of all thanks for great content. I enjoy your videos and find it most helpful and informative. Keep up the good work: I am a well fit 59 yo 3.5 player who plays about 3 times a week. I am a one handed backhand player and it is easier for me to generate topspin with my backhand than my forehand but currently I am trying to use both flat hitting and topspin within my game toolbox. As I am 6'3 and 235 lbs, I can generate good power and definitely a baseline and net player player. My current racket is the PSRF97 and a 1988 Prince CTS Precision Oversize that I inherited from my deceased father and play with for sentiment reasons. Both racquets are quite heavy and I find that in this heat-waved summer, cause my arm to tire and inflict tennis elbow. I also have to admit that I am finding the PSRF97 to be more difficult for me to evolve with and while the Prince is heavier, the balance on that racquet make its feel much lighter. My 1rst question to you is that as a one handed backhand player, it was my understanding that it would be best to seek a head since of 95-98 as a general rule and wanted to know your thoughts on this since I saw you in this video use the Ezone 100. My 2nd question is that I have my eye on the Ezone 98 as well as the Wilson Blade 98 (16x19) and would welcome any comments on the Ezone for my level of play. I have those on demo order from TW. Again thanks for the great content and I wish you well. Raul Brooklyn, NY
@MeikeBabelTennis
@MeikeBabelTennis 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Raul, I think the head size really depends on personal preference and the ability to make clean contact which is obviously a bit tougher with smaller head sizes. The smaller sizes probably feel a little easier for plenty of people (as they do for me), but I do value the "forgiveness" of the bigger head sizes, hence the ezone 100 that I tested. But I was pleasantly surprised about the Ezone 98 and the Vcore Pro 97, both feel soft and "buttery" to me. I have demoed the Blade and it felt really, really stiff to me.

Hi Meike, I’ve been using Yonex RQS 11 (100”, 280g, balance 330mm) for 12+ inconsistent yrs w/ eastern FH grip. Getting back into tennis, but this time, switching to semi western to increase top spin. Should I go for the 98 or 100, light (L) or super light (SL)? I idolize Martina Hingis and try to emulate her swings, she uses the 100 SL.
@MeikeBabelTennis
@MeikeBabelTennis 2 жыл бұрын
You'll have to be able to make contact a bit further in front with semi western grip otherwise you're having a too closed racketface. So a lighter racket will probably help with adjusting to the new contact point bc you can swing faster. If you start with the SL you can always add lead to the frame to make it heavier.

I believe we string our demos in the middle of the recommend range (45-60 for the ezones) so probably 52, 53 lbs. I didn't string it myself. I have mine very low for teaching, I usually go down to 48 in the winter and maybe 50 in the summer. If I were to compete, I'd go up with the ezone to 56 probably.

Great and useful video! I am going to test both of these next week. Coming from a heavy Wilson blx (339 gram) would that be to big of a step in terms of weight? If I play a lot of matches / tournaments the blx will hurt my arm sometimes.

You can always add a bit of lead tape to the frame to make it a bit heavier if you prefer that. A lighter racket will just feel very differently but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Hi Meike, thank you for your videos. They are really helpful. I want to change my Wilson 285 grs. and I have been testing several rackets: Clash 100, Babolat Aero, and I wonder how the Yonex will be for my style-technique and strokes. I'm more of a baseline clay court player and tend to hit hard and a bit flat. My best stroke by far is the backhand (it looks a bit like Basilashvili's backhand) and I might need a different racket. Some instructors have suggested I try Yonex, but I don't want something super stiff and heavy. A 300-gram racquet may not be heavy for you, but coming from a 285-gram racquet, there is a difference. I thought the ezone 98 would be worse, but it looks like I was wrong. Between the ezone 100 and the 98, what would you recommend? Any other options? What about the DR98 or the vcore pro 97; too heavy? I want to protect my arms although I have quite a bit of strength in both of them. I appreciate your feedback.

Both the ezone 98 and the vcore 98 come in a light version, the ezone 98L and the vcore 98L, they're both 285g. I can't play with stiff rackets either and I feel both of those would be a good option for you. Also try them with the Yonex Rexis comfort strings, I use those and I feel they really protect my arm.

Probably go with the 100, it just gives you that extra little more area on the sweet spot and should help with making contact a bit more cleaner.
