Just went on amizon to look at depth finders really nice ones with boat mount for 50 100 . The one you should get is 150.

I wil have a look. Many Luggers have proper NASA ones fitted. My issue is that I don;t wnat to drill through the hull ideally for the sensor. Just one more hole to worry about!! It would be quite nice though to have one running all the time.

On my kayak I've bedded the transducer into silicone inside the hull. As long as no air trapped between the transducer and hull it will "shoot' through the hull. maybe you can do same with your device?

@anotherangleUK that's a good point Phil, on my boat the depth sounder is also stuck in the bilges somehow and works through the hull. That being said, I don't trust it much though, anything over 15mph and it doesn't read, but it is ok at slow speeds.

Hmm, I will look in to that. In theory if you have solid water in between the hull and the transducer, it should ignore the hull, so maybe thats worth a shot?

@@SailingWithDave That's right, use a flexible glue like Sikaflex EBT + clear. Make a little foam wall to create a barrier then fill with the Sika and push the transducer into it without getting air bubbles between transducer and hull. Being flexible means if you do get it wron you can peel the Sika off - but that's a fun task.

@@anotherangleUK I'll look into that, although to be honest for the Lugger I don't really even need one. she floats in 8" of water and it's rare I really need to know the depth. I can just peep over the side!! It is useful though for navigation and working out the Menai at the south end where I did run aground a few times last time out there!!! I just lifted the keel though and she slipped over the sand!!!

Good idea, but I think i'd need about 20 years of wine drinking for me to get enough corks!!!

If you have water in a boat on land you need a boat cover that works to keep the water out not the one your using it very simple problem to fix.

CHeers for the comment. The one I sue now, the "Mooring cover" as I call it works really well now as long as I tei it up to get a decent ridge into the cover. However some people like to use the towing cover with a pole underneath it to give it a decent ridge too. Other option of course is to leave the cover off and take the bung out but then the boat needs cleaning of leaves constantly!!!
