Little bit of both, this just broke yesterday. The cover on the bottom for the charger went off. But it does the job and served well its purpose. I guess nothing last forever.

Just take the back off and push on the screen protector then the phone comes out pretty easy

It a bit tough, but there is a technique. Start by opening the lid on the bottom (charger). Start there, it will detached easily
