Nick Carver is the most underrated KZbinr out there.

Kinda... I think the number of people who appreciate his work are a reflection of the number of people who really love photography and get off their arses and do it. The clickbait monsters, well you can guess the rest, it's the first thing on the menu, for those not going any deeper than 20billion pixels and eye and nipple focus guarantee... pass me the remote :)

Nick’s anecdote about a truck in front of his shot reminded me of when I was doing something similar, waiting with my eye to the viewfinder for a gap in the traffic. After I had taken the shot I saw a bus driver had stopped and waited for me, I waved thanks, she smiled and drove on.

Brilliant show, from two people I highly respect. Your attempts to describe why you both love shooting on film, are fascinating. I have started shooting film again after picking up my dad's old Olympus OM10 and seeing if it still worked... It's magic, and feels somehow more like the images are more "authentic", and a wonderful feeling to go back to techniques that take just a little more thought at the time of shooting. Hope this series lasts a long time!

Forgot to add. As you’re a professional photographer and taking photos is work (annoying as it may be that you get to do it for a living😉) I can’t see any issue with you going out and vlogging. Although I can see that you may be a bit apprehensive of the welcome that you might get from local residents, and the tedium of having to explain that you are doing your job. Given the time of year it’s a bit awkward to be in and out before anyone else is aware you’ve been.

I tip I’ve used for work conf calls like this is to shrink the video chat window as small as can be and drag it to the top of your screen right under the webcam. That way it keeps the eye line up high during conversation. Hope that’s helpful. This was excellent!

Excellent! The content and form are most engaging. The fact that you chose to produce it as two individual, high quality videos assembled after the fact....”tethered” only by a simple, single-strand earbud/microphone in each location with B roll and stills laid in as needed....made for an elegant presentation. No intrusive hardware in the shot...no mics on booms, soft boxes, computers, tripods or other junk...kept the focus on real content. Most of all, no squawking Zoom interviews. I’ll take more anytime. Thank you.
@robertnystrom2893 жыл бұрын
Fabulous! Loved every minute! Great name! On film- in these days of 20 to 30 frames per second, probability alone will get you something. But then there's the chore of sorting through potentially hundreds in post. I personally dread that; I stick to single shot mode. I think because film is limited- you've got a 'roll'- and since you need to make it count, one mentally gives oneself permission and an 'excuse' to take the time to get it right- or at least close. A sort of personal freedom to make choices. No bits, no bytes, no software updates. Just an emulsion and you.
@MrDennisben3 жыл бұрын
I first got into Nick's channel when I started shooting film 3 years ago and i binge watched all his videos. I remember the Paris photos but especially his toilet related story but I never appreciated those photos. I believe Nick's faults are his inconsistency about posting videos and him not believing in himself. Nick don't sell yourself short. You have a great persona (since you admitted that this not your everyday self) and I adore your work. Great video Thomas. What a treat! I found Nick Carver's KZbin channel through this channel and really enjoy his photography and his manner of presentation. His color landscape and cityscape work reminds me a bit of the early colorists (roughly 1950s and beyond). His fractured window photos from Paris could have been out of a Saul Leiter exhibit. I believe i also found Ben Horne's work from watching videos here, and he would make a great guest for this new series, as would Brendan van Son.
