Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused, unreleased and unseen things in various games! In this video, we’re diving back into Mario Kart DS! I covered some Mario Kart DS prototypes in a previous video, but here we're tackling the final release! Japan doesn't have a letter L sound so they use the Japanese letter R sound as a replacement, so that's why it's called test-brock instead of test-block

8:21-Luigis Main Kart was already finished at the time of the demos release. It replaced his early Standerd Kart as his Unlockable Kart was finish during kart modeling.

There IS an uncommon image format sometimes used in programming, in which string ASCII art gets loaded as a full color texture, but it's not efficient and is generally only used for absolutely tiny embeddable graphics like program icons.

10:37 Recently, I played Mario Kart DS on an emulator to try it out, I tried a flying code to go outside baby park to see the off-screen Paratroopa and it appears that the trails line up on the mini map and the 3d map too. Basically, the Paratroopa is the same distance away no matter where you look.

This was more recently found out, but Piranha Plant Pipeline in Tour was originally a cut course from MK DS of all things. It also was one of the only Tour courses to not appear in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC.

That bit about the timetrial code is actually really awesome. It makes me pine for the days games couldn't reasonably get updated, so they needed to put everything in they ever thought they were going to need, even if they never ended up using it. Well, and make sure the game wasn't a buggy mess with a "fix it later" mentality.

2 inaccuracies I noticed The Mario_Tree is not unused. You can see it lining GCN Luigi Circuit. There are some that are animated and some that aren’t and are behind the animated ones. In addition the “windows style” window is actually used in cross region local multiplayer. I got the Japanese cartridge and connected it to an American one. On the multiplayer menu on the top screen 3 windows appear explaining the modes.

It's actually pretty cool to see how some of the kart changes were made to save those extra few polygons since the DS can only draw 1024 onscreen at once before it starts to bug out. Stuff like switching waluigi's harley to only have 3 wheels saves a couple of polygons while also looking nicer
