Thing about games criticism is that there are two separate scales which are being judged - artistic vision (i.e. were the artistic aspects of this game to my liking) and execution of vision (i.e. did they technically pull off what they sort to achieve). There are for sure some overlaps of these two ideas, but I think most reviewers could do a better job on separating their thoughts on technical achievement from artistic achievement, especially in the AAA space.

The SpongeBob SquarePants movie is a classic example of a secret 10 out of 10. nobody thinks about it as a perfect movie, but it absolutely smashes every goal it sets out to achieve, insanely funny all the way through with one of the more interesting and legitimately effective takes on the "be yourself" moral trope that every other kids movie tries to do

For Metal Slug Tactics, the dodge gain on move mechanic is very similar to the evasion mechanic in Battletech from Hairbrained schemes. It's a great way to simulate making a moving target harder to hit. Really recommend Battletech if you like crunchy tactics games. Takes a bit to get a handle on, but it's such a rewarding game once you've locked in.

I love Jacob’s point at 1:10:45 Put your money where your mouth is! Support and buy the unique shorter games that don’t spend a huge chunk of their time and budget trying for ultra realistic graphics if that is truly the direction you want the industry to return to.
@idakev4 күн бұрын
I agree with his point in general but not necessarily for Slitterhead. Most critics seem to think that it has interesting ideas but fairly poor execution. Jacob plays so many games compared to even an average "core gamer" because it's his job that novelty can negate poor quality. Probably unrealistic to expect people to buy this game to make a point if the quality isn't actually there compared to many other unique indie and AA games.

I find it troubling to try to suggest that there isn't a distinction between "not for me" and "bad". A clear distinction. To suggest otherwise is to posit a reality in which nothing is bad. Which is absurd. Things can be bad. I am not an artist. If you commissioned me to do a piece of artwork for you it wouldn't be "not for you" it would be straight up bad. Just because A LOT of people can't get out of their own heads and understand the concept of subjectivity doesn't mean we should be all walking through life with the kids gloves on pretending that anything and everything has some equal value and quality. That's madness. If you tell me my shitty art is shitty and I, or some weird audience of people who have decided to make their core identities defending my art for some insane reason, get offended by that fact it's not on you to protect us from that truth. It would be on us to deal with it. There are plenty of things that are not for me and I would never touch that I am capable of acknowledging the quality and craftsmanship of. That is a super low bar and we should expect all people to be able to rise above it. And again, if they can't that's their problem, not yours. You don't have to honor fools. Things can be bad. That's just reality. We don't live in a magical Candy Land where everything is amazing despite itself.

Idk man, 53:27 a pretty serious scene thats been changed to comedy for the sole reason of sad emotions not being marketable enough in a Lego game is kinda dystopian imo lol. Regardless of anyone's opinion on Horizon's plot quality, it takes itself really seriously as a story overall, so this just feels kinda tone deaf Like Jacob said, making a pretty mature game and stripping it of certain aspects for kids seems like its not even respecting the core audience/idea of what Horizon even is. Hardly the first game to ever do this, but yeah sad nonetheless

That game is bad. No major plot point happens after the first 5 hours until quite literally the last 5. The writing is terrible and it’s extremely rote open world mechanics.
@reed16454 күн бұрын
@@Kmaitland89 I wouldn't say it's bad personally. The combat is great, the card mini game is fantastic, there are epic boss fights, some cool varied areas and a lot of fun set pieces sprinkled throughout. That said.. the pacing is pretty bad, some of the big story moments weren't handled amazingly in my opinion and the open world stuff feels bloated and just pads the game out. All in all I really liked it but it felt like a step back after remake.

The Lego Horizon segment. I get it. It’s a super old game, but there are still people who haven’t played it.
