Correction. Karsu was born in Amsterdam. She has Turkish parents. She translated her part into Turkish. She recently went through a bad break up after a long relationship. Hence the emotion. The song is about feeling sick after a break up.

The view of the Turkish and Moroccan gouvernments: no matter where you are born, and who you are you are Turkish or Moroccan if you are from Turkish or Moroccan decent. This is mainly for tax, wealth distribution, conscription and political influence purposes.The rest of the world: you have the nationality of the country you were born and raised in unless you applied for a differen citizenship.

@@windmill10 The place you are born is your citizenship but identity is something else, by identity you are Turkish no matter where you were born or raised. Her mother tongue is Turkish, her home country is Turkey, nothing can change that. I don't understand why we have to argue about this.

@@axoyaxtamatrakkhija We argue because you make quite ignorant and - excuse me for saying this - dumb statements. For instance her mother tongue isn't Turkish. Her mother tongue is Dutch. Why? Because she was born in the Netherlands, she went through the Dutch school system, in her every day life she speaks impecable Dutch without a Turkish twang. Unlike all first generation imigrants and a lot of second and even third generation Turks and Mororccans. She herself has stated that her mastery of the Turkish language is not perfect. Another thing is how someone identifies themselves. If you would ask Karsu she will almost certainly say that her home country is The Netherlands. If you would ask her how she identifies, the answer will probably be something along the lines of Dutch with Turkish roots. By the way how many generations does it take in your opinion before someone can distance themselves from their ancestry while being born and living in a country other than their ancestors? If you would ask my cousins in Australia (second generation imigrants, born in Australia), who all speak Dutch to some degree, they will tell you that they are Australian. According to you they are still Dutch because their parents were Dutch and nothing could change that. What you state is what the Turkish and Moroccan governments say for political reasons. That is not to say that a fifth generation Italian in the US could not state that he feels he is Italian. I the case of Karsu you are making statements that won't hold. Unless you show me that she has stated otherwise herself. By the way I know of some Turks and Moroccans (second generation) who would scold you for insisting they are still Turks or Moroccans. Especially those men not born in Turkey who don't want to suddenly find themselves in the Turkish army after a visit to Turkey.

You pronounce her name exactly right, "Karsu." I listened her this performance 1st time with you guys. I am glad that you like something. I realized you do not always enjoy all the songs you are listening to. My husband is American, and I know how does it feels for an American to listen to a song in a different language or different cultural melodies, etc.

Try Karsu's Ben yanindayim/Siyah (Empty Concertgebouw Sessions) (stops at 6:40). One of the most emotional songs I know. You got to keep the tears (and whisky) flowing. She sings in Dutch and Turkish and she is well.. just brilliant. It also has English subtitles. Edit Ah I see you already reacted to a video of Siyah. Wow. Wicked. (The live version is a little bit better imo. but wow. Respect !)

Ms. Ayşe, I want to add something... You said 'Watch the original version'. I guess you didn't know that Lara Fabian in the video you linked was covering a song that belonged to someone else. The original version should have been Serge Lama - Je suis Malade. The resemblance of Karsu's movements to those of Fabian loses its importance in that matter.
