You are one crazy dude. 🤪 I know folks with 35 ft. Sailboats that would cry sailing through those conditions. You have 🥎🥎s. Way to go. 🤗⛵🌊🐬🏝️🌅

hit 25ft waves for hours on end a few times in the old girl. still not as scary as a atorm in the windrider.. you gotta push yourself past your limits, or live life never really knowing where those limits are. thanks for the shout! you made my day. Zig

If I was going to do this, I'd want to be in a Windrider 17. Very capable and well fit boats for these type events. I'm surprised you don't have the spinnaker. Really adds a lot to the boat.
@ZiggyLavengood5 ай бұрын
Light air is usually not an issue here on the gulf coast. My last boat had 4 spinnakers And used the asymmetrical one a few times. Usually ended bad, hehe. But it was fast.

Ziggy, thanks as always for taking us along for the ride! Can you explain one thing? It looks like most of the time you're out in open ocean waters. How much time are you in the ICW? Isn't the ICW only a 100' wide? Just curious, how much time you spend in the ICW for the Texas 200.
@ZiggyLavengood5 ай бұрын
I spend most my time on the ICW or the big bays. We never go out in the Gulf but stay within the barrier islands and are often 8 or 10 miles offshore. You can't see land in the bigger bays. Good question. Thanks, Zig

Great video. It would be cool if you posted the speed of boat and wind during the video.
@ZiggyLavengood5 ай бұрын
when i was using GoPros that was easy. i have switched to DJI cameras now without the speedometer graphics. i do call it out now and then. it's a dbl edged sword though. to sailors cruising for hours at 8 mph sounds fast. to non sailors (most of my viewers) it sounds slow and boring.

Wow that is scary about Marcus. I am glad he was found safely, and hope his boat is okay. How snug of a fit are the ama's into their mounts? Do they wobble a little as you sail, or was what I thought I saw just the camera angle / affects?
@ZiggyLavengood5 ай бұрын
They flex when you get going. I've bent them a little a cpl of times too. Once being pushed up on shore by high winds and once hitting a dock post. That's how they were designed . We were on the radio with the Coast Guard for a while searching for Marcus. The fisherman didn't think of notifying anyone he was found.

Ziggy, you mentioned someone named "Groebeck" or something similar. Can you confirm? I might have the same sailboat that he does, and I've never taken my out in 8 years, but next year, 2025, it'll happen, and if we have the same boat, I've got some questions for "Groebeck." Thanks!

it's a modified Welsford Sweet Pea. We spent a yr building it. I have a series on it. Buddy will be happy to answer any questions you may have. kzbin.info/aero/PL2uMpOSPer2E5qk7BqPEICF91KkBRimsC

A lot of guys do it in even smaller boats. The event was originally meant for little home built boats that can sail in a few inches of watet. I agree. I don't know how they do it.
