They’re not the only band who doesn’t repeat a performance. Where I went to high school, all the area hi😢school bands learned a new March each week. Oak Cliff High School, outside of Dallas, used to DANCE when they marched! Now that’s skill! Also, great fun to watch.

Damon, that is how I became an Aggie fan ! I went to the 1986 Cotton Bowl game (I went each year no matter who played) to see Bo Jackson play. While I actually was planning to pull for Auburn my ticket was smack in the middle of thousands of Aggies. By half-time I was hooked on what I had experienced all around me. When the game was over I wanted to know everything about Texas A&M. Those years that the Aggies weren't at the Cotton Bowl were so boring; nothing special. I agree with you that an Aggie game is something to witness in person.

Absolutely!! The Aggie band is pure poetry in motion - how many hours I remember practicing up and down that marching field, our band director screaming at us when we missed a step - and praising us when we got it down...it was hard work but when it was presented under those Friday night lights, we felt like we were solid gold...and the standing ovation after just made us stronger... Gd rest my old band director...we were very excited to make him proud
@rvaugh230 Жыл бұрын
Just because someone spent hours and hours perfecting something doesn't mean people are required to pay you any attention. The woman in the wnba spend their entire lives playing basketball yet it's not interesting to watch. Shame on you for not watching everything every person has ever spent time to perfect.
@sparkleybannana7274 Жыл бұрын
@@rvaugh230This is a bit different I would argue… at other sporting events, CFB, NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, and WNBA included, talking, chattering, bantering, yelling, and all the likes is encouraged. At orchestral performances, ballets, classical wind concerts, Military drill reviews, and poetry recitals (see comment above saying that the FTAB is poetry in motion) talking is strictly prohibited or at the very least highly discouraged and frowned upon. This is the latter being performed on the stage of the former. The FTAB wants cheering and whooping, it is the greatest feeling in the world to be playing as loud as you can on that field and not able to hear a darn thing, but what we don’t want is chattering… we are putting on a show, not for our enjoyment, but for the audiences. As well as, many of the performers families are there to see the hard work they’ve put into it, there have been thousands of Aggie Bandsmen past who live vicariously through us student Aggies, and children or adolescents who we inspire to find their passion in music or the military. I have had countless personal experiences with all 3. We want them to enjoy the show in the moment, and whenever they want to after. While I am a rather patient person and did not mind/could ignore it, some folks just plum can’t… should they be denied the show, no. Should the folks talking be denied the show or chastised either, no. The point is, if they have enough of the Aggie spirit to come see us BTHO whoever we’re playing, then they should follow our traditions, including staying and standing during halftime and watching the Aggie band, not jappin their jaws. I apologize for the rant, however this is something I am very passionate about and do not believe that a disrespectful culture is something to be brushed off or compared to something irrelevant and outside the scope of the discussion, but rather amended and fixed in order to allow all to enjoy these wonderful performances
@sparkleybannana7274 Жыл бұрын
@@rvaugh230Also… please rewatch the beginning. This performance was dedicated to the Class of 2023… they put in more time and work than anyone will ever know and I love them dearly and will miss them when I March on that field… if folks dont have the decency to remain quiet for 8 minutes to honor their hard work and you don’t have a problem with that sir, that is not an issue with them anymore, but with you. Good evening and I hope this just broadens your perspective as to what these individuals were trying to express their displeasure with.

During the cross a band member drops his hat. At 5:33 you can see the cap on the feild in the ‘V’ above the ‘M’ near mid feild. At 5:56 a band member kicks the cap onto the ‘M’. Later at 7:20 another band member kicks it again and flips it up in the air and lands it right side up. At 8:24 you can still see the cap on the feild, however when the shot panes right at 8:44 the cap is gone. I think this because at 8:31 in the very upper right corner someone dressed in white pants and blue jacket runs onto the feild to retrieve it.

I miss those half-time shows we got to see years ago. Why do we need to watch and listen to commentators discuss the first half after we just watched it? To me it only seems right that band members get their half-time performance aired on TV as members of the school and for all of the time, dedication, and work they have done to be on the field. They really need to go back to showing the bands again on tv.

@@fancy39 I wouldn’t classify certain bands above others. I wouldn’t put OSU over A&M but I wouldn’t put A&M over OSU. It goes the same with any college band compared to a drum corps. These bands have amazing traditions and serve different purposes. Texas A&M serves as a representation of clean military drill and precision. Ohio State shows more picture-form show design. Either way you have it, this is all opinion based. There can be some subjectivity to it, but in the end it’s musicianship and artistic quality that we should just learn to appreciate no matter who is performing.
