Correct. He wanted them eliminated. The DNC wanted to keep them. They compromised with superdelegates on the second ballot. Everyone knew at the time they made the ‘compromise’, the DNC would do whatever they needed to do to make sure Bernie would never get 50% of delegates.

There were super delegates in the first round in 2016, so Hillary's plurality was questionable.
@elijahculper55224 жыл бұрын
Warren didn’t say that Bernie supported superdelegates or that she supports them. She said that her position now is the same as his was in 2016. She doesn’t like that superdelegates are there, but since they are, she’s going to try to use them to her advantage. She wants to stay in the race until the convention, force it to be a brokered convention, and then try to make a winning coalition out of the delegates whose votes are up for grabs. That’s what Bernie did in 2016. He tried to get the nomination despite another candidate getting a majority of the votes cast and delegates. Politicians, Sanders and Warren included, pursue power. Their opinions change to match their current position. Warren’s position now is similar to Bernie’s in 2016. So she’s dusting off his playbook. And Sanders is just trying to change the convention rules mid-primary because now he thinks doing so would benefit him.

He's an "executive" in the Democratic party... And according to his sentiment his vote should count more than yours and mine
@elijahculper55224 жыл бұрын
Jessica Scoullar Superdelegates are either elected officials (who have a mandate from their constituents), retired elder statesmen (who held a mandate from their constituents for an extended period of time), or DNC officials (who were elected by their local DNC chapters, where registered Democrats could have voted, giving them a mandate from voters). The superdelegates’ votes count more than yours because they were given a mandate for their vote to count more. If you don’t like it, run for Congress or hang out at dnc meetings and run for a leadership position in the party. Nobody’s stopping you.
@jessicascoullar37374 жыл бұрын
Elijah Culper lots of people would stop me because I am not American. Why does the super delegates include lobbyists? That seems like a massive conflict of interest.
@elijahculper55224 жыл бұрын
Jessica Scoullar There are no super delegate seats set aside for lobbyists. Every sitting Democratic Governor and member of Congress is a superdelegate. Any living former Presidents, Vice Presidents, DNC Chairs, or former members of congressional leadership (Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, etc) are also automatically superdelegates. The rest of the superdelegates are people who have been elected to dnc leadership positions within their state. Some of those people may happen to be registered lobbyists, I don’t know. But they won an election to become superdelegates nonetheless. And while the elections for local dnc leadership aren’t as well publicized as elections for other offices, registered Democrats can find out where and when they are on their chapter’s website and show up to vote. Every superdelegate has a mandate from voters who knew that they were voting for superdelegates when they went to the ballot box. Is it “democratic?” No. But is it a fair way to run a representative republic? Yeah. The US has never claimed to be a direct democracy. We elect leaders with a better understanding of the issues and candidates to vote on our behalf. That why we use congress instead of trying to pass laws through national referenda. And it’s why we use institutions like superdelegates and the electoral college to help pick the president. These institutions serve as a backstop to protect against mob rule. And they guarantee that the people who have the most say in how things should be run are the most qualified to do things well. I’m a foodservice worker with no political experience. My opinion should matter less than the opinion of a dedicated civil servant who has spent their life analyzing public policy and who received a mandate from voters to vote on their behalf.

His policies are reminiscent of FDR, not anything actually socialist (socialism being the worker ownership of the means of production). The closest his policies get to socialism are the worker representation on corporate boards, and the support for worker co-ops. His identity and his policies are from two wildly different ideologies. Socialism is anti capitalist. Capitalism cannot coexist with socialism. Social democracy can, however. It’s basically capitalism with regulations and a big safety net under it.

These are people who can take time for functions, spend disposable income on everything from gas money to clothes for functions and babysitters to have the freedom to participate. These are people who have the right world view to help them get elected into positions in the party by people who share that worldview. These are people who can successfully bring in donating friends and associates. And then these very special party insiders pick superdelegates. And let’s remember that some of these superdelegates are lobbyists, and politicians who take donations from the corporate interests or people like Bloomberg who look at a politician and say, “I bough...I, I, I got them”. THIS-Exactly THIS-is why there are 100,000,000 Americans who don’t bother voting.

I am ready to take to the streets and cause a ruckus...a big ruckus. That is how we need to address any bullshit.

He sounds like they are planning on voting against Bernie in the 2and round. I'm from TX. This is so disheartening.

This guy is afraid to speak his mind or lose his job, a 'yes' man, and he is exactly the kind of person who should not be in charge. Rank and file Democrats need to be selecting the parties nominee, not insider elites. This is exactly why nearly half of eligible voters stay home...they see how utterly corrupt the system is and don't even want to waste their time on voting. I vote because I strongly believe it is the solemn responsibility of ALL eligible citizens, but I certainly understand why many people don't.
