As a state law enforcement agency, the Texas Department of Public Safety is charged with protecting and serving the people of Texas. It’s a charge the men and women of DPS take very seriously and a mission they live every day. DPS is comprised of more than 11,000 employees - just over 4,000 of those are commissioned personnel who serve with the Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Rangers, Criminal Investigations Division, Training Operations Division, Aircraft Operations Division and others. These men and women serve across the state in a variety of ways, using the latest technology and equipment to accomplish the mission. The Interdiction for the Protection of Children, or IPC program, is a tremendous example of that collaboration. The IPC program teaches officers how to recognize indicators that a child is a victim or at risk of becoming a victim; this includes children who are missing, exploited, at-risk or endangered. The program was developed by DPS 15 years ago and has now resulted in hundreds of child rescues.
