As a Padre Island fisherman growing up after gold spoons, the Paul Brown Corky was what all the old men used and I was so jealous until I finally came around to top water. A winner on the Jetties and wading just like you did.

I grew up wading the flats in Galveston. Throwing Corkies at night and working coves during the winter. I moved to Alaska 2 yrs ago and started throwing Corky Devils and Nothings at big silver Coho salmon. And let me tell you right now. It’s just unfair… Targeting deep slow pools with a true plum or hot pink Corky is one of my favorite ways to get a thump. And nobody up here even has a clue to what I’m doing.

Been trying to get a plastic lure company to make this. Hollow tube say mullet. Your scent oil slick is half hearted. Consider a hollow mullet or shrimp you can stuff with cotton balls. Now store them SUBMERGED in that scent/oil? See where I'm going with this? 1,000 X more effective. Maybe a bass tube bait with a paddle tail mullet imitation.

Great tutorial!! Have you tried replacing the trebles with in line hooks on a Corky? I have and I think they may hook and hold better but I’m not sure. What do you think? The in lines are easier on me for sure.

The Corky Fat Boy TX Chicken caught me my limits every day from last June through Aug. within minutes while people were out all day just watching me cull my catches & they were not hooking up. When they seen that Corky? They were shocked! I caught my 1st 32" on Spec on the Corky. If there's Specs in the water? They'll smoke it! 25" plus size Trout all day baby!

Man, when you have one come off, stop the retrieve and let the bait sink then start the retrieve over again. I have caught many big fish doing this. The fish will instinctively think they have wounded the bait and hit it again. I guarantee you they are still looking at the bait. I love fishing the Corky here in SE N. Carolina this time of year. I also prefer the fluoro over the mono because of less stretch and more sensitivity. Thanks for the video!!

Its a good winter bait, a favorite trout bait? Not sure about that? The corky did catch the state record Sea Trout back in the 90's! But I think the rebel jumpin minnow the older model before Praco bought them out caught more spotted trout?

@Mike Maynard, yes, speckled trout (aka spotted seatrout) are drum family members (Sciaenidae) along with redfish/channel bass, black drum, Atlantic croakers, whitings, and with a number of species also on the West Coast (Pacific).

Do pufferfish ruin those lures? Seems like the soft plastic would get bitten and torn up by them or other tail biters. The puffers and other little stuff are brutal lately in the Chesapeake. I can get Corkies here but I think they might get ruined pretty quickly.
