The problem Ohio State faces, regarding peaking too soon, is they have no choice. Prior to this 12-team merry-go-round, I said that the best teams in this were Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, Georgia and Ohio State, in no particular order. Ohio State got the short straw, literally lined up to have to play all four of the other top teams, in order to win the title. If Ohio State wins this, nobody breathing can say they got a bye week and didn't earn every last bit of it.

There hasn't been holding penalty by an opponents OL (holding a Buckeye DL) in about 10 games. I completely agree with Collins’s take on Ohio State. The new playoff structure allows teams to grow and develop. I never thought it was fair that we held college kids to higher standard than we held NFL players to. We we’re holding players to the standard that they had to be unbeaten to have a chance at the playoffs with the old format. Now if a good team stumbles and loses a game or two and they still have an impressive résume still with wins over other good teams, there is still the opportunity to get into the playoffs and compete for a national championship. Ohio State grew over the season and the loss to Michigan ultimately appears to have woken them up and propelled them to their best form and now are now one game away from being able to have a chance at immortality.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Ohio State is the best team left in the playoff. Penn State is snake oil; Texas, Notre Dame, and Georgia all present unique challenges and advantages that leave little to no margin for error for their opponent. Kirby is clearly the best coach remaining in the playoff. Notre Dame has not yet fully unleashed their dynamic QB/RB tandem, or their opportunistic defense. Texas has the best player/best QB for the class of '21 and '23 on their roster.

I'm a Buckeye and not over-confident like a lot of the base, just knowing how hard it will be to defeat 4 good teams in a month. This is uncharted territory for everyone. They will have to beat Texas in their backyard and either Penn St for the second time this season (it's hard to beat a good team twice, right Ducks?) or a Notre Dame that has a Michigan vibe toughness. It's a big ask. Can a team "peak" for the whole CFP show?
@shawnchristenson3249 сағат бұрын
I would never erase my posts that said Day should be fired. He can't beat MI, he's 0-4 in the last 4 years and this year he clearly had the better team, but still couldn't beat them. That is INEXCUSABLE.

Yesterday wasn't an A+ or a D game. It was in between. I really believe you see a different Texas team next week. Along the lines of what they were against AL last year. But we'll see. But, don't be surprised if I'm right. 🤘

I do have to remind you that you said last month that OSU shouldn’t make it if they lost to Indiana and won out. A little conflicting on the whole ‘give college players a second chance’ take, although I do agree with you - it’s nice to see a team get a chance to stumble.

Colin is 100% about the targeting play and throwing kids out. That was targeting, no doubt about it, but can we stop throwing people out? We review it, you can see if it’s intentional or just a football play. It was a football play that turned into targeting, he wasn’t head hunting, but it happened.

Hey Colin, were there other 'missed calls' that could have affected the outcome of the game? Were there any holding calls missed? on offense or defense? Were there any other possible targeting calls on defenseless players that didn't get called that could have affected the outcome of the game? Did their defensive unit hold receivers, or have clear pass interferences that were missed by the refs? It usually doesn't just come down to one missed call.

Agree with your assessment that refs prefer not to make calls late that decide games (re: A-State/Texas) but, I would suggest that this is exactly what they DID do. The Refs decided the game. In a situation like that, EITHER call is essentially deciding the game. Well, what can you do, you ask? Bottom line, at this point, the old adage I believe is true: Honesty pays. If it's impossible to make a decision that doesn't affect the outcome of the game, make the HONEST choice.
