KVUE, as a former Texas teacher, I can tell you that student behavior is absolutely a big cause of teachers leaving. After years and years of unchecked behavior with little to no consequences from school administrations, the environments in the schools have become quite unsafe. The other factors mentioned in the video are indeed reasons for teachers leaving, but they also forgot to mention parent behavior. Many parents are outright hostile to teachers and get their way from administrators who won’t back their teachers. It’s sad to see so many wonderful teachers leaving.

Former educator here- It's the students behavior, that trickles down from parents who have taught them this bad behavior. It's that simple. I have seen teachers spit on, sworn at, had their classrooms trashed and items stolen. I've seen SEEN teachers assaulted and the districts do nothing. That's just at the teachers. Students fighting and willing to mortally wound or hurt each other is beyond anything I have ever witnessed. I had an AP, who had 3 years of teaching in a classroom, try to tell me she was the authority and in charge- bullying from admin is real too. Parents show up to school, ready to physically assault everyone. If you are going to do in-depth, hard reporting, go to former teachers, because this woman cannot speak, due to her contract.

If parents are hostile to teachers their kids will be hostile as well because they are modeling disrespect. I don’t blame any teacher for leaving. No one deserves abuse, especially from know it all parents who have no idea what it takes to manage 25 + children a day no less teach them, plan instruction for them, clean up after them, grade them, provide guidance to them and supervise them 8 hours a day. It’s exhausting hard work. If parents don’t like it, let them home school.

@UmmYeahOkАй бұрын
I don’t understand why kids aren’t being punished in any way for things. You NEVER brought anything to school because it was either stolen from you by another student, taken from you by a teacher, or both. If you were late, you got detention. You said a curse word, detention. You have a kid hit you, and you tell, well, zero tolerance, you get yourself in school suspension. My entire childhood was punishment after punishment, yet this generation gets absolutely nothing? I asked my daughter why, and she claims it’s because they don’t want to deal with the parents. Kid gets detention, then that means they now need a ride home, and miss out in extracurriculars. I’m like, “so what?” That’s the punishment for misbehaving. If there is no negative outcome for bad behavior then they keep on doing it. Parents upset that their kid misses out, guess what? Now that kid has to deal with punishment at home too. …but no? It’s the school that should be punished?

Student ARE one of the reasons teachers are leaving! Stop trying to gaslight people! As a former teacher, I will tell you the truth! Students are HORRIBLE! Watch that video, what do you see in those kids ears, their earbuds/airpods. They tune teachers out, they are not there for an education. Kids cannot read, spell, or write because administration forces teachers to pass kids for doing nothing. Students should NOT be allowed to get to middle school and still be on a 1st or 2nd grade reading level! Schools hand a computer to a student and think the kids are going to use them to do their work.....WRONG!!! They watch videos, take selfies, and other stuff. Students do not learn cursive anymore, so you ask them for a signature, they print (very poorly) their names. Teachers are told not to make kids read out loud, why? Because they cannot read. But guess what, when they take that ridiculous STAAR, they have to read! SHOCKING!! Some idiot decided that school needed to be fun and entertaining, well guess what teachers are NOT entertainers; so, now school has been dumbed down sooooo much, kids are dumb. How about stop making excuses for these kids and their parents and actually start letting teachers teach again. Stop labeling kids to make their life easier in school, because those IEP's and 504 accommodations are not in the real world!

I was a teacher for a long time and I walked away for so many reasons and one of the biggest ones is over testing underpay and the complete inability for the system to acknowledge that over testing is bad idea that we have to look at diversified learning styles and we have to look at equity justice and Fairness within our systems and we also have to look at labeling is harmful. Even the labeling helps us help students and none of these things are actually a surprise. We are seeing these things play out in the national stage and we are seeing the lack of critical thinking being taught in schools and you can see us because they can pass a test but they can’t critically diagnose or separate factor fiction in news or false media, and these things are not being taught. We can’t leave it to the parents because parents are trying to work two in three jobs right now just to keep food on the table on the roof over their head and in many cases that’s not even happening and we are not looking at mental health issues. We are not looking at dental care. We are not looking at healthcare. We are not looking at the entire picture. We have passed it out into bite-size pieces along the edge of a pie and no one wants to talk to each other. We have side load out these issueswhere education has become its own isolated silo, and we are seeing all of these individual silos fall apart.

@barbarabrooks474716 күн бұрын
Teachers have a very limited tool box of punishments when positive reinforcement and time out fail. Disruptive students used to be paddled, assigned paper pick up, kept in at lunch or recess etc, but now there is just suspension and alternative school. Schools need to be able to require parents to get family counseling and professional evaluation of the student if bad behavior persists. Taxpayers pay a fortune for schools. Parents shouldn't be allowed to disregard their responsibilities while schools struggle. Parents shouldn't be able to get out of this requirement simply by homeschooling or switching to private school, as it's risky to the child and society for a troubled child to be left untreated. Also, students should be tested and sorted on the first day of school. Teachers have to teach too many achievement levels at once. All students need to be in classes they can understand, but that challenge them. Academic instruction would take less time if students were with cohorts of similar levels. Then there would be more time for practical classes like Home Economics, Gardening, Shop, Art etc.
