A wave of violent tornadoes swept across Southeast Texas on Thursday, leaving a path of destruction and panic in their wake. El Campo found itself in the direct path of one of the most intense twisters of the day, as storm chasers captured striking footage of the tornado touching down just outside town. The National Weather Service had been on high alert, issuing warnings as severe storms intensified, sweeping east and south across the state.
The storms triggered tornado watches for large portions of Southeast Texas and Louisiana, with warnings expanding into Harris County, Big Thicket, and Huffman.
