It is genuinely frustrating. I've been scammed out of $1,500 at a Walgreens in Minneapolis Minnesota. I literally asked the store if they can review the cameras to see the person who put the credit card scammer device over the authentic one then they refuse to even show me anything. Made a affidavit with Wells Fargo literally the next 48 hours I got all my money back because they got law enforcement involved and they found out who did it it was a store manager. So it's not always a customer that's doing it sometimes it's an inside job.

@Reuben Morris The banks handle it by forcing you to prove this isn't a scheme you're in on. They treat you like you're the criminal, and not the person whose money they're using to generate money from thing air with fractional reserve banking. People who've never been through these things think they just call their bank and explain the misunderstanding, and it's suddenly all good and their money comes back.

@@thebee9907 works like this for the banks i've used. transaction is "pending" until the claimant claims the funds. This period is usually less than 30 mins. scammers use scam accounts, they pull the money out few times a day or at least once a day. that's the whole idea, by the time victims realize they got scammed .. money is already gone. some banks might give it back out of courtesy, but scammers also get the money. so don't talk if you know nothing, maybe in USA it works like this, but not in EU.

@@yebobaba cash is not king though. She lost $600 but she got it back. You may have a higher risk of losing money without direct physical contact, but how often will you get your cash back if it's stolen from you? It's a much less guarantee. And businesses have less money to lose via theft either at the place of business or when depositing at the bank. The tradeoff for consumers being the traceability of purchases and for businesses being fees taken from transactions. But to some that's a positive trade. But no, nobody is going to stop taking credit cards.

Chips won’t matter if you pay at the gas pump. Your card will still be insert in a way that the mag stripe can be read. Not sure about card readers inside but could be possible for the skimmer to read the mag stripe even though only part of it is in there. Despite the card reader trying to read the chip; the skimmer overlaying it could be using the mag stripe information.

He claimed people who did that was to lazy to swipe it and put in their pin. And said that when people tap instead of swipe or use the chip they are charged more. Actually the store isn’t on it. We actually had training on this when I worked at Victoria secret last year. They’ve caught a couple people doing it and whenever you aren’t watching or have your head turned from the Moneris machine, they install it. It is VERY quick and literally takes 2 seconds to put. We got trained to check the moneris machines frequently but trust me that it DOES happen and most employers aren’t aware The way you can tell is that the extra keypad is BULKY so youll be able to see a different. You don’t want to insert like they said as this scam is mostly targeted to people who still insert. Tapping is the way to go.

She's lucky she got anything back at all. The banks typically don't lose anything; some time. They only supply the card with her stored account number on the card. 7-11 has a card processor they deal with; typically First Data. First Data gets a notice from her bank about fraudulent charges, so they reimburse the bank, who puts the money back into her account. First Data doesn't want to lose money, so they charge her losses back to 7-11. So yeah, the bank didn't pay her anything, but 7-11 paid only what she had lost; excluding her time. This is one of the reasons they came out with the EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) chips on the cards. EBT cards typically don't have EMV chips, so it's easier to scam those people with the setup that was shown in the video.

Why not bank just step up and improve. When a card is swipe it will authenticate with the bank on the user password and if it has the amount of money to deduct. So it's just a improvement at the bank side instead of user having a password user will have absolutely no password at all it will be a rolling pin where user use a bank app to generate a one time used pin code.

Yep. I monitor everything very closely. I know what I have and how much of it, I have everything set to alert me and every account is freezable. When I thought I lost my wallet somewhere in the truck, I decided to wait until I was at a truck stop after delivering to look for it. Until a purchase popped up at a store I can't physically fit in the lot of with a semi truck. Then I froze everything and started making phone calls immediately. I still can't believe someone stole my wallet right out of my truck while I was shutting my trailer doors. Now, I NEVER EVER EVER leave my truck unlocked, for any reason.
