Find out what rental car companies are using on their rentals. I use Nationwide insurance and you can have a GPS device installed from them and LOWER your rates at the same time. It can also tell you if employees are speeding at a time when you know the roads they should be traveling on and the speed limits. The downside is most use the OBD port, so best to put a splitter on it, hide that part up high in dash, and have only one side from the splitter hang down for access. Even better if you put a "dummy" tracker looking device on it, so they figure they got it out, and not realize the real one is hidden higher in the dash. Even Walmart, just search "gps tracker". So many there, including wrist watch kids tracking devices. Heck, buy several and hide in different places, better behind plastic bumper cover areas so metal car body won't block it some.

Eric, you might consider putting real time tracking devices in the trucks. A concealed video device in the cab would be an additional option so that the low life thieves can be identified and put in jail. I know it's a hard pill to swallow but it can reduce major headaches and shut down the creeps. Or another strategy would be to put a sticker in the window saying this truck has electronic and video surveillance. Also could put power kill switches for overnight parking. I hate thieves too, I know how you feel.

It's certainly possible the employe is an issue, but I would not be surprised at all if the thief was waiting for it to be replaced. This is not that uncommon. I agree with others that GPS trackers are a good option. They can also help you keep an eye on your employees. As long as your guys are doing what they are expected to do with your property, they should not be offended. My truck was stolen here in St. Louis area in 2012, the Target store security cameras were useless-by design. When the police revived video (Target would not allow me), they were horrible quality. Recently I had a car damaged at a Home Depot. Same story-I was not allowed to see video and Cameras were very poor quality. The Police said this is typical. Inside the store they have amazing surveillance-because that's their stuff. Then came the 2 month issue with State Farm. I don't think I'm given enough characters to explain that process. Sorry for the rant- but I too HATE A THEIF!

Quick to blame the employee? Not right without proof even though lighting struck twice. Could be someone in that gated community or other who has/had access to getting in the gate. Sad there are thousands who have company vehicles and more risk for those who have work vehicles that may have tools etc. in them including trailers everything from construction to yard services. Sad is the guy could have earned his way up and benefit is the "company vehicle". Thievery plagues many states wide. Thieves target, follow and take advantage.. sadly this employee/person is on that "opportunity" list . Know many who have "working" type vehicles who have been broken into, stolen more than once... Recommend better auto theft tech. like the Waylen Secure 360 records and detects once set and alerts owner for unauthorized entry.. paired with a GPS auto shut off system could help you in the future. Or go low tech and disconnect the battery cable ... while parked for the night... aka vehicle won't start. That employee should definitely have home security system with driveway to door cameras installed... aka a Ring type system.
