That was my reaction as well. It's a fantastic tool. I've used it on IVR's for call centers and such. I worked for a company in the past that would pay thousands of dollars for professional voice recordings for their call center. With this tool, I could have replaced that entirely. In more recent roles, I have done just that. It's a lot easier than asking others to record it, too.

@@collaborationblog Oh man, I'm glad you were productive with this tool. Very glad. I made an awesome e-reader app with Azure neural TTS. I used to pay for another app, but it just stopped working, so I decided to build my own. The problem I have is, I'm so not sure how Microsoft calculates the pricing. Just testing the app, costs $0.13. That may seem like pennies, but it's a few lines of text. I can't imagine the cost for a whole book, and I have dozens of books. Can you explain the pricing if you know how it works? I'm sure I'm using the $16/m at 1million characters. But it makes little sense because the Free plan is gives .5million characters monthly, so am I really paying $16 for an additional .5million characters? Why wouldn't I just create another free account and get 1 million characters for free? It makes no sense to me? Help!

It's not clear how to get to Speech Studio. I'm logged into Azure and it comes up in no searches.

I'm going to be honest, it has been a long time since I set that up and I know last time I looked, Microsoft had changed the GUI, so it's a bit different. Thanks for doing this Azure TTS demo! It's amazing how you adjust so many aspects of the speech! I just found out about it a couple of days ago, and want to use it to create audiobooks. So, I have two questions...1) Do you have to have/create an account to download the audio? And 2) Is the TTS functionality available with the free account, or do you have to sign up for a paid account? Thanks so much!!!

Hi Ray, That sounds like a great way of using it! To answer your questions, to be able to use it for a book, you're almost certainly going to have to sign up for a paid account, but you'll be surprised at how little it costs. Keep in mind, I'm not a representative of Microsoft, but I don't want to steer you wrong, either, so be sure to look into it when you set up your account.

any updates on when other languages such as "Spanish" will have the extra bells and whistles like the Speaking Styles? Seems English is one of the few languages that includes those options.
