Not sure if they mentioned this but are they using a layered material to blend together different materials? If so are they using vertex colors for blending, masks or procedural textures? Also would of been nice to see the uv's of a building to understand the way they arranged the UVs.

It's a combination of everything you mentioned. I worked on one of their titles for some time and they use a 2 way vertex blend to blend between two procedural materials i.e - Moss and Bricks

@@Zeyphrr Nice, thanks for sharing, heard vertex blending is less heavy than texture masks.

Yes, since there graphic setting called texture or material detail, it even show what it does when you change options. That's only possible with layered material. It makes sense to use because meshes can be scaled and still have same texel density as scale 1.0 Or still have good texel density for huge objects.

I've always wondered, if an artist matches the hiring criteria of a studio as big as Ubisoft or Blizzard or others, but lives in another country, do they have procedures to help him/her move to the city where the studio is located?

At the places I've worked in the past, this is always the case, yeah. Sometimes they even give you money to move!

Very interesting! it makes me want to try to make sculpts in designer and import them in Painter, and create a larger bank of materials and smart materials to have consistency Btw they say they have a bank of materials, not smart materials, so everytime they have to tweak the materials, bake inside painter, create occlusion, curvature They dont have a bank of smart materials?

Maya or Max, or both (I know that for a technical artist position they usually specifically ask for 3DSMax), ZBrush, Substance Designer and Painter as well as Photoshop are the core for most assets ingame. Animations are a mix of handmade and motion capture, the handmade ones I'm assuming are done in Maya. For FX my guess is Houdini and After Effects. More and more studios are integrating Marvelous Designer into their pipelines as well, there's no better software out there for simulating fabric. The game's foundation is going to be the engine, and Ubisoft's Anvil is a pretty hefty beast. If you're looking for an engine to experiment with, UE4 is not only universally acclaimed but also free, so you can give it a shot, see what it's like to implement assets into a game. The only reason I'm not mentioning the Unity engine is because I have no experience with it, but I'm sure there are others out there who can vouch for it, so you might want to look into that too.

What's an abido texture? That are 2 very very present? This is not understandable. Why not just let them speak French and subtitle in English? This is not understandable.
