As a person who started playing tf2 in 2011, for me personally it is "dead". And I said personally, because I don't think the whole game is dead, just a few aspects of it are. But the main point of playing this game for me was revolving about these aspects. And some of these aspects were community servers or community gamemodes. The community i played with basically grew up. I've seen people i played with back in the day sell their whole steam accounts, because they had better things to do now. But the worst thing is that a lot of my favourite gamemodes i used to play all the time were gone with them. So tf2 is not the same game for me that it was and i suppose that is why a lot of people think it's dead. It may not be dead for you but for them it truly is.
