4:57 hey, as someone who recently did a deep reread of the comics, i actually have something to add here. the australium rocket is not the only source of australium left - there is actually australium within every australian person. a lot of people gloss over this, probably because the comics themself gloss over it, but the blood-sucking robots classic heavy sent against the mercs at the end of issue 5 were built by grey mann to suck the australium out of aussies. so not only is sniper the most connected to the last of the australium - THE LAST SOURCE ON EARTH IS HIS (adoptive) PEOPLE.

It's also a Dutch saying. "In het land der blinden is eenoog koning." (To translate it litterally it's: "In the land of the blind one-eye is king." Not a one eyed man, but one-eye. As if it's a name or nickname.) I thought Degroot ("De groot" means "the big") was just because Scots is a Germanic language closely related to Dutch, but there may be more to this connection. The Irish connection could just be because of the Scottish Gaels. IDK, I'm not Scottish.

Yes. Squab was actually quite common in parts of America, Europe (especially during medieval times) and is still popular in China and Egypt today. Here in the UK it was largely eaten when other foods were rationed during WW2. Also, during the middle ages in France and England, dovecotes were popular. They were buildings on the outside of an estate where doves were housed to be eaten fresh; they were considered to be "living pantries." Dovecotes were also regarded as status symbols, which would be fitting for a prime minister. However, dovecotes had died out by the 19th century, so it's highly unlikely the van was transporting Archimedes to a dovecote. Your hypothesis however is most likely correct!

Heck, I even knew he got a couple details wrong, like Jeremy being scouts name predates the comics, and actually comes from the Bio page on the official website. Due to this, it's actually thought that his name is a reference to the VA's role right before TF2. Also, Soldier is *engaged* to Zhanna, not married, as they haven't gotten the chance to hold the ceremony or elope as of when we last saw the characters a decade ago.

Soldier actually has an interesting character fact. Well, it's more of an inference than a fact, but the fact his "real" name is mister Jane Doe implies he was actually married before the start of the games and, on top of that, his wife socially outranked him. I don't know what could be higher than military service to necessitate a man to be introduced under his wife's name but that's where we end up following the logic.

I guess it's a tongue-in-cheek way to refers to the Unknown Soldier concept, but with a funny twist, considering the Soldier should instead be named John Doe. Or is it because they refer to him as Mister Jane Doe in its entirety, rather than simply "Mister Doe" ? Kinda as if I was named John Smith and they introduced my wife as "Mrs. John Smith" ?

@@aleflippy1997 Jane Doe is indeed used to address an unidentified woman in English speaking countries but it is also statistically a real name and among the most common English names for women at that, which is why it's used as a placeholder; taking it straight leads us to a woman called Jane Doe that Soldier at one point was married to. But you are correct in that it's a play on the Unknown Soldier concept, especially as he's never really verbally addressed as mister Jane Doe afaik, it's just what the sign on his flat says. As for the latter, yeah, that's what I mean. The only instance where the inverse would happen is if the woman socially outranked her husband and was leading the introduction.
