It's pedantic, but if both of your jumps are increased by 25%, your total jump height is still increased by 25%, not 50%. (to illustrate this, imagine each of your jumps gives 1m height for a total jump height of 2m. If we increase that by 25% to 1.25m, your total max height will be 2.5m, 25% more than 2m.)

I think the Winger is underrated due to scouts other secondaries. Unlike his Primaries, he has two that are straight up overpowered, which are the Mad Milk and Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol, and a sidegrade to his Pistol for it to compete with balance-wise is the Flying Guillotine(No more a finisher, and now another burst damage option with gradual damage debuff).

Guillotine is banned in sixes and was on the chopping block for HL until HL took a super liberal turn on scout's whitelist. It is in no way competing with the pistol balance-wise, it is better than the pistol in a way that oversteps scout's boundaries as a class.

They're all justified in one way or another. Bonk is banned due to on demand invincibility with a downside you can brush off in a safe spot. Mad milk is because the thing is actually overpowered. Crit-a-cola because you reliably two shot demo and soldier while they can't do a whole lot against a very skilled scout. Guillotine is just a easily spammable tool that doesn't have a huge enough cost. And PBPP just because it's a upgrade from stock.

@@Spiffyo not only is it easily spammable, it does 90 total damage and bleed ticks down way faster than burn so it's pretty much assured on anyone not actively being healed. You win 1v1s the moment your cleaver makes contact with someone as it will make you able to oneshot any non-soldier class from full with your scattergun. Soldier isn't left with enough health to do anything if you meatshot him once with it. BONK and crit-a-cola just breed degenerative gameplay same as the disciplinary action. Pocket pistol, cleaver and milk are all overpowered

My kit is usually Backscatter, Winger, and Candy. Only chose it because people don't usually use those weapons. But it's surprisingly good if you're a lone flank scout because the Winger let's you flank easier, the Backscatter does more damage (on the first shot), and the Candy cane let's you heal up after a fight if you took non-explosive damage.

The Shortstop pairs especially well with the Winger for another reason beyond just sentries: the bonus jump height allows you to reach new places as mentioned...but it also allows you to start engagements from the high ground when used with the Shortstop due to it's higher damage at range.

I actually use the winger a lot, on the anti-heavy lodout which have the soda popper, the winger and the fan'o'war. You hit him once with your melee, then get two close shots and he is dead, if he is still alive the winger does a lot of damage quickly so its perfect. And also I usually have one mobility tool either its the force of nature, the atomiser or the winger.

Great video, I've been using the winger non-stop recently. It's indeed a underrated weapon and most player are completely caught off guard with the extra jump height during dodging. The small clipsize is indeed a huge con, but closing the distance helps a lot. I don't know why, but i can out put more consistent damage with the winger than the pistol. I guess the increased shooting speed benefits some players more than larger clipsize.

I used to use the Winger a lot, it was great fun, but I found the PBPP's health regen more important. I still use the Soda Popper for mobility, and the PBPP (and Candy Cane) helps me stay alive for long enough to build the hype meter.

Before they changed the atomizer to only give the 3rd jump while fully deployed, I used to absolutely adore the Force-a-nature/Winger/Atomizer combo. There was not a place on earth you could not reach. Obviously it had it's downsides and wasn't what someone would use for competitive scout play, but it was so god damn fun

I recently found out that the 25% jump height bonus is actually a 56.25% jump height bonus. What it increases by 25% is the jump velocity, but the effect of that on jump height is squared. It increases the perfect double jump + crouch max height from 117 HU to 171 HU, which is a pretty big increase. This applies to MvM jump height upgrades, too. Buying 3 ticks of jump height and holding the Winger actually gives you 4x jump height, not just 2x.

2:50 25% is still 25%, even if it's applied to two separate jumps. A jump gives you 45Hu of height. The Winger adds 25% jump height. 45 x 1.25 = 56.25 Double Jump: 45 x 1.25 + 45 x 1.25 = 112.5 As you can clearly see, this is 25% more height than 2 jumps without the Winger: 112.5 / (45+45) = 1.25 Stay in school, kids, otherwise you'll get basic math wrong.

Just a quick point about your comparison to stock's damage output; you compared them on a per-clip basis. But, even with having to reload in between, the Winger would be able to fire off multiple clips in the same period of time. So while it wont be able to get out as many bullets, with those bullets doing more damage... well, I havent run the numbers, I'm responding in the moment. But I suspect the average damage per second over the span of a single stock clip is actually comparable. The only downside damage wise comes if your target is getting pocketed. Having to reload gives them a breather to heal up.

This vid has definitely convinced me to give the winger a shot next time I'm playing Scout, though at the same time I feel like its offensive abilities need... not necessarily a full buff, but maybe a tweak. It's a wonderful mobility, but is significantly weaker than stock offensively, with worse burst damage than the Pocket Pistol (which can heal you for 27 health if you land all nine shots) and worse sustained damage than stock. I'd have to get back to this after playing with it a bit, but I feel like a notable damage buff, but a notable fire rate penalty might help give it a more distinct personality, so Scout's three pistols are each significantly different from each other. It could probably retain the same DPS however, since one full clip at point-blank range is enough to kill the three lowest health classes in just under a second.

I think the atomizer is better because there are so many better unlocks for the secondary while melee just isn’t as needed. You can also start using your 3rd jump as soon as you pull it out even if you aren’t able to attack with it and still while you in the middle of your first or second jump.

@@onyxlore5277 Awoolensleevelet tested the ttk of the revolver vs the amby and the revolver had the same ttk, or really close, as the ambassador for dealing headshots at all ranges. The only technical upside is at close range if you can headshot+bodyshot a light class. If you calculate the time to kill foe the revolver at this range it is: 0.58*2=1.16s You need 3 shots to kill a light class so you have to wait for the cooldown 2 times For the amby: 0.69 second, it has a 0.69s delay between shots So you have a 0.47s ttk improvement that wont matter in a dm situation besides against automatic weapons. Why? The scattergun and shotgun have a 0.62s ttk at this range, which is better than the hs+body combo of the amby. Moreover having to aim for the head is less reliable/consistent than having to aim for the body. If you face a pistol or an smg 0.47s will matter, you'll get hit about 3 shot less. If you use the amby and only headshot you get (go watch woolen's vid) : -a worse ttk at close range, somewhat the same at mid range -a less reliable gun since you have to aim for the head and not the body E tier, it has no uses, either for gunspy and knifespy The burst damage doesn't even matter since the stock revolver has a higher ttk at close range anyways

I only use the winger if I'm using a completely different loudout because my playstyle revolves around the atomizer. I currently changed my playstyle with the bfb since it fucked up my good playstyle with scout and made me thirst for bfb kills on unimaginable levels so i use the winger and the flying guillotine based on th map.

With the added mobility, you could use the Wrap Assassin to get bleed damage on people from very cheeky angles. Fan O War isn't a bad option if you position yourself above the enemy, allowing you to drop down and mark people for death. The rest of the other Scout melees really don't provide any benefit (except the Atomizer, which was talked about in the video) unless you wanna be Fast Spy, and drop down on people.

The Winger is really good in Saxton Hale (custom gamemode) by jumping above hale forcing him to turn around u to hit but u can jump again and again and again until u die or jumping on a higher surface where the hale can't reach it without super jump And this thing with mini crits and crits oh boy,the fun begins

I have 2 loadouts that focus on a balance on Usability and How fun it is. One is Stock, Winger, Wrap assassin. This is one of my favourite loadouts, you can have the reliable damage of the Stock Scattergun, The Mobility of the Winger and the Down right Fun of the Wrap assassin which is a great chip damage. In case your curious, the other one is Stock (again), Pretty Boy’s Pocket Pistol and Atomiser. Its probably the better option, but i honestly prefer the first one due to the Winger having the mobility basically on demand.

Another small thing that wasn't mentioned is that Scout has very few pistol rounds. Having fewer rounds/clip means that you don't run out of bullets that fast. Pair this up with the slight damage boost and the weapon will potentially do more damage if you count every shot instead of stock. Also the first shot of any pistol is always perfectly accurate, meaning that the damage upside does help a little more than expected with finishing from a distance than stock. Not overall, but still

The winger is underated because it not only gives extra damage but it also has a 50% jump boost. Though it has a 5 bullet capacity it goes well with its loadout, the soda popper and the atomizer ( I see the irony) It also goes incredibly well with the scattergun. Its also powerful in mvm if u get the ammo capacity upgraded

I'm not sold on the winger, The extra jump mobility can be gained with the Atomizer which essentially gives you the same jump height. The atomizer also doesn't take up a secondary slot which allows you to use mad milk or the pocket pistol which helps you stay alive and take fights more often. The winger is still a good choice but I think there are better options for scout.

That 5 shot magazine absolutely kills it for me. There's just too many other mobility options on a class that already didn't really need mobility options. Scattergun capacity is scout's damage bottleneck and his pistol's supposed to help him deal with that. Mad Milk doesn't help him in this way either, but Mad Milk is at least not deeply situational.

I think deeply situational undersells the winger a lot. I think it's decently balanced and useful in most situations. Imo, more mobility on a mobility class is actually still very good, especially when you take into account all the routes you can take that you couldn't before. I've been using the winger a lot recently and it's surprising how often I get use out of it. I'm finding little ways to make escapes better and flank in weirder ways on every map I use it on, and yeah, while other secondaries are really good, the ability to both flank easier and escape faster and more unpredictably make up for the loss in damage. As said in this video, it really helps a flanking-focused scout make plays, and flanking focused scouts often don't need all six shots of their scattergun to do their job, they flank, get one or maybe two picks then get outta there. In less flanky scout playstyles the winger naturally is worse, but even then the little options and unexpected plays it opens up are still really good. You have to experiment a lot; look at a gap or ledge and just give it a shot with your winger, even if you think you can't make it. When you get into the right mindset with the winger it really opens up more options than you'd ever expect.

@@schweppley1614 gaining health back doesn't mitigate the boost you lose. If you take damage, you lose all your boost. In order to get it back, it doesn't matter if you have a winger or a pbpp, the only thing you need is damage. Thusly, not only does the winger accomodate for the BFB's jumping-shortcomings, its boosted jumps can help you dodge enemy spam if you're caught with your pants down with no boost meter.
