One time, I joined a Hightower map with no idea about the “no capping” rule, and my team tried to kick me. Luckily, someone stuck up for me and said to the others that I probably had no idea. When I asked what I was missing, that player explained it in a civil manner. I didn’t bother going near the nearly capped cart after that and mostly spent my time on that server jumping off the cliff as a scout. So thank you to the nice player who stopped everyone from kicking me and explained the no cap deal

I don’t understand the point of the “no cap rule.” You can just requeue again for another match. Especially if the round has gone on for ages. People make the argument that bots will join, but bots join regardless even mid game when people leave, and people DO inevitably leave mid game in scenarios where the match is extended.

I think one of the silliest and best moments I had with the game was in a casual KotH match. When the match was starting and everyone was still loading in, the five people on my team all ended up picking sniper by coincidence in the pregame. When the match actually started and we had all our players, we organized in the team chat to all start as heavy, and we all started revving our guns out of spawn. It led to one of the most beautiful moments of twelve revving heavies all coming over the hill at once and mowing down everyone as the other team loses their minds. Of course, when they respawned we got wiped out almost immediately. So we all spawned in as trolldiers. And then demo knight. Then pyro. Then spy. We basically threw the match, but everyone in the match was clearly having a good time. We were all having fun coordinating what to do next and trying to get creative with it, and the other team was laughing their asses off and trying to guess what was coming next. This is honestly a memory I hold close to my heart, because to me it is the definitive TF2 experience. A beautiful mix of unexpected goofiness, fun, and some actual honest-to-god effort from both teams to making the game as interesting and fun as possible.

I have the exact same load and we start basically shooting mid range flares and... We both reflect each of the other one flare until we both run out of gas... When realizing that we shouldn't bother sending each other projectiles because it was waste, we stopped right in the middle and went on a high five. It was furiously fun to experience such interaction. Both our team members shot the other while high five. We weren't even mad but we shared a fucking awesome Pyro moment.

I’m sorta on both sides when talking about this debate. I don’t mind people playing the game even if it means killing friendlies or even people being friendly as these people can make the game even more fun and silly than it currently is. The only problem I have with both sides is when the tryhards take the game way too seriously with them excepting every game to be like a Competitive Match and friendlies kicking people for killing them and other friendlies or helping out the enemy team during a heated battle like you see in the video which I think is good reason on why I can see people wanting to kick friendlies. Other than that, play the game however you want and don’t let other people discourage you for playing that way. Just don’t try too take the game too seriously and don’t be friendly in a Competitive Match.

I love TF2 because of both the serious and silly parts: I mostly play to win, no matter if with a meme loadout or a more meta one, it's fun. But it's also fun to just stop attacking and taunting with the other team. This creates a certain kind of respect and proves that you're both trying to have fun. It's also okay to have a huge conga line for a while, then go back to shooting at each other. I prefer this randomness, and I think it fits any server that isn't purposely serious, competitive or MvM. Being nice to other people and asking things helps too. I've met many chill people just by using the chat properly. It's also kind of fun to see the typical Scout using binds every now and then.

I'm more of a serious player , not toxic tryhard , who respects everyone (not counting toxic/annoying players) , cuz I play to win , but also like seeing friendlies , but if I get killed by one or I am pissed of , I go insane , and kill like a psychopath , and won't stop untill the end of the round , and I like to play MvM , cuz it's fun and it's a serious gamemode , like a no friendlies servers or tryhards servers. I like it.

I usually just ignore friendlies, I’ll leave them alone, dance with them a bit, then move on to the objective. Also, I prefer the kinds of servers that aren’t silly or serious. Like one time, in a match of 2 Fort, I was doing well as Medic, as started wondering where my team was. I looked at the bridge and saw almost everyone right there, dancing. This was fun, and was only ruined by my spy and the enemy Engineer who thought they were cool. Eventually, we all dispersed and continued the match, you can’t argue that we went against the point of the game, because we still did the objective, but we also had a little fun.

One of my favorite TF2 moments was when the friendlies and the try hards banded together to kill the entire team of bots on the other team. It was really fun trying to find different ways to kill the bots. We made a compromise to not complete the objective but to take killing the bots seriously. 10/10 would recommend.

The only issue I can see with the 50/50 rule is the fact that (as soundsmith said) “The unexpectedness of seeing a friendly in an otherwise serious match part of what gives being friendly its charm.” and vice versa (while the expectedness of seeing a friendly in a friendly server... destroy the “charm”).

Yeah but finding a server where there's a dude flying everywhere bonking people with a shovel and there's a spycrab spamming spy voice command and there's a mix of red and blue people dancing next to a cliff and a scunt is just asking people to vote who he should yeet off with his FaN in chat again and again... You can enjoy that for a while when you queue up and it appears out of nowhere.

For me, it depends on the gamemode I'm playing. If its Payload or Attack/Defend, the presence of friendlies does get annoying very quickly. But if its something like CTF or Payload Race, then I'm not really going to give a shit.
